Sharing the road with heavy vehicles

Heavy vehicles, such as road trains (see page 32), trucks, buses and farm machinery weigh more than an average vehicle and require extra stopping distance.

Do not cut in front of a heavy vehicle at traffic lights, stop signs or in traffic congestion as the driver may not have enough room to stop. Drivers of heavy vehicles and trucks use their mirrors to stay aware of what is around them. If you sit in a truck’s blind spot you will be invisible to the driver. If you cannot see the truck driver’s side mirrors, the truck driver cannot see you.
