ROAD
SAFETY THE TRUST

What does The Road Safety Trust do?

Established in 2014, The Road Safety Trust is the largest independent funder of road safety initiatives and research in the UK.

We provide grants of up to £500,000 towards innovative practical, research, dissemination and education projects that aim to make the UK roads safer and protect all road users.

Where does the funding come from?

We are solely funded by our trading subsidiary UKROEd, who operate the driver offender retraining scheme (NDORS). Surplus generated from these courses is distributed to The Road Safety Trust and put back into road safety initiatives.

Who is the funding for and what can I do with the grant?

We support local public sector organisations, charities, Community Interest Companies and university groups to deliver evidence-based road safety projects that align with our priorities:

• Research that informs

• Pilots that test

• Dissemination that reaches

• Advocacy that influences

Projects might include: evidence reviews, research and evaluation; trials or roll-outs of education or practical interventions; engineering, infrastructure and technological measures; developing resources or guidance to improve policy and practice.

What type of support and grants are on offer?

Generally, two rounds of funding are available each year.

Our Small Grants Programme responds to the sector’s need for smaller, local projects with a practical focus. Currently awards range from £20,000 to £50,000 for a maximum of 24 months.

The Main Grants Programme is for larger projects and usually focuses on a particular road safety issue identified via commissioned research and stakeholder consultation. Currently awards range from £20,000 to £500,000 for a maximum of three years.

We are here to support and work in partnership with you. We want to help you achieve the most benefit from road safety initiatives by working collaboratively and are passionate about improving road safety at a local, regional and national level.
