Whether you ' re participating in the North Sails Winter Series, attending a Club Night, catching up with friends over a coffee, browsing the latest gear in the shop, or simply stopping in to see what's new, I encourage you to make the most of your club this winter.
PARTICIPATION: THE FUTURE OF CLUB RACING
king the same question: how do we The challenges facing participation are real, and they require all of us to ur sport
No single club can overcome these wider economic and social challenges. However, they do present an opportunity for us to step back, review what we're offering, and consider how we can best keep sailors engaged with the sport.
If we can continue to evolve our racing programme while building a welcoming and inclusive sailing community, then the future of club racing at RNZYS remains bright
After just over two days of hard offshore racing, Clockwork came charging back down the coast with one thing on their mind: Breaking the 2024 RNZYS Three Kings Offshore Race Record.

The Emirates Team New Zealand Youth Training Programme is one of the worlds most elite sailing programmes, and has recently undergone a massive transformation. With the appointment of YTP Graduate and former professional sailor Harry Thurston at the helm, and Emirates Team New Zealand on board as the lead supporter and sponsor, the next generation of athletes are set to tack and gybe their way onto

Major awards aren’t about singling people out, but rather celebrating those who have achieved something great throughout the season. The awards are presented to showcase our appreciation for their dedication to the Squadron, and for their ongoing commitment to sailing.

“Our inspiration comes from the Jules Verne Trophy and our aim is to set a new PIC Coastal Classic Course Record
We love the race itself, but on Labour Weekend in October, the conditions can be fickle and you can get everything from a drifter to a full send!
So we’re planning on doing the course in September, when the south easterly kicks in, with the goal of breaking the Crusader 35's record, and hey, we might even take a shot at Alfa Romeo’s record too!

Approximately a year ago, my Dad and I crossed Cook Strait in a couple of Zephyrs - 3.3m classic wooden sailing dinghies Subsequently, our ambition for adventures in small boats grew and we decided to tackle Doubtful Sound in Fiordland, in an Olympic class 470.

I’d not been in a firetruck before, or in a firetruck over an alpine pass towing a 470.

SpencerLoxton the Boat Captain
The man in charge of two AC40's and an AC75 - no big deal right?!
From sweeping floors to running the show as Boat Captain, Spencer Loxton has been part of the engine room behind Emirates Team New Zealand's America's Cup campaign for several years now. We sat him down to find out what really goes on behind the scenes - from his go-bag essentials to the day Taihoro fell from the crane in Barcelona.
For many years, investment success has been framed through the lens of comparison Investors have been encouraged to measure progress by whether their portfolio outperformed a benchmark or delivered better returns than an alternative investment. While these measures can provide useful context, they often draw attention away from the true purpose of investing - Am I still on track to achieve what I want?
Investing is not designed to win a short-term competition Its role is far more practical and personal It exists to support long-term financial outcomes: providing for retirement, enabling a desired lifestyle, leaving a legacy, and creating a sense of financial security over time When viewed through this lens, the most meaningful measure of success is not relative performance, but whether an investment strategy remains aligned with an individual’s long-term goals
Investment time horizon is critical - It influences the level of risk that can reasonably be taken, the types of assets that are appropriate, and the way an investor experiences periods of market volatility Financial markets do not move in a straight line They move through cycles, delivering both positive and negative returns at different times These cycles are unpredictable in both timing and magnitude and should be expected as a normal part of investing
The relationship between time, risk, and return is fundamental A longer investment horizon provides the time needed for investments to recover from short-term setbacks and benefit from the compounding effect of returns It also enables investors to hold assets that may deliver higher long-term outcomes, even if they experience greater fluctuations along the way. By contrast, shorter time horizons reduce flexibility When funds are required in the near term, there is less capacity to endure volatility, making stability and certainty more important than growth
While this volatility can be uncomfortable, it is not inherently harmful It becomes problematic only when an investor is forced to react at the wrong time, often due to a mismatch between their investment strategy and their time horizon. When time horizon and strategy are properly aligned, investors are better positioned to navigate periods of uncertainty

MSP SPORTS CAPITAL INVESTMENT
The acquisition of the Black Foils marked MSP's entry into SailGP, adding the team to a global sports portfolio that includes or has included the X Games League, McLaren Racing and Everton FC.
