Michelle Lampkin - Candidate Campaign Statement

Why I’m Standing

I’m a London Underground CSA on the Victoria Centre Group, a local Tier One Health & Safety rep, and a Tier Two Stations Safety Council rep.

I’m standing to be your London Transport Region representative on the National Executive Committee (NEC) because I believe I can contribute to securing the best possible pay, terms and conditions for our members

Our NEC is made up of rank-and-file representatives, elected directly from the shop floor, who return to their jobs once their term is up. This means RMT is led by people with a direct link to our members on the ground.

I want to ensure that fighting and winning on the issues that matter to our members is at the heart of what our union does.

My

Record

• Nominated by the majority of London Transport Region branches for the role of NEC

• Organised a local dispute over management practices, which escalated into an international news event thanks to the hard work and inspired timing of my local members

• Supported picket lines and demos outside of my own immediate area — including outside my function (on the Night Tube trains disputes), outside of LU (on multiple National Rail disputes and RFLI), outside of my industry (attending multiple demos supporting P&O workers in London and Dover during the fire and rehire debacle), and even outside the UK (self-funding my attendance at the worker-occupied factory in Florence, Italy)

• Volunteered to send thousands of messages to ensure we met our thresholds in industrial action ballots, personally responding to members.

If I’m Elected, I

Will...

• Support strategies for taking the fight to employers, rather than being reactive

• Always respect the democracy of our union. I’ll take my steer from reps and members meetings and branch resolutions

• Be an NEC rep for our whole region

It’s not the “London Underground Region” — it’s the London Transport Region, covering all members, outsourced and in-house, across LUL, TfL, DLR, ABM and many other employers. Members need to feel that they have the support of their elected representatives and officers, whether their employer has a workforce of dozens or thousands

• Spend as much time as possible supporting our reps and activists in their workplaces

• Keep track of motions, and ensure those who send them have the opportunity to speak to me directly

• Fight for direct employment for our outsourced members.

My Involvement Has Included...

• Level One Industrial Relations Rep during 2021

• Tier One Health & Safety Rep since 2021

• Stations & Revenue Health & Safety Council Tier Two Rep since 2023

• Stations & Revenue Health & Safety Council Staff Side Secretary 2025

• Assistant Membership Secretary, RMT Finsbury Park branch since 2023

• RMT National AGM Delegate (Hull) in 2024

• RMT Health & Safety Conference Delegate (multiple years)

• RMT Women’s Conference Delegate (multiple dates between 2012 and 2024)

• RMT Stations Grade Conference Delegate, 2023
