Why Rail Cleaners are on Strike during the Jubilee The people who clean your trains and stations are taking strike action today because cleaners need a better deal. We don’t want to be on strike during the Jubilee. We’d like to be celebrating too. But our bosses – men who make £millions out of Britain’s railways – have left us no choice.
The truth is that on Britain’s railways, cleaners are treated like dirt to turn a profit: • • • • •
We are all outsourced to a company called Churchill. Churchill is a LOW-PAY employer. Many of us are on the legal minimum wage. We get NO SICK PAY. Throughout the pandemic they were given extra tasks to make trains and stations cleaner but NO EXTRA STAFF. The cost-of-living crisis has meant that many of us are more than £1,300 worse off than we were last year.
We cannot live like this. It’s time for justice for cleaners!
