Co-op Cardlock is Being Constructed at Vanscoy
The Delisle Ag Co-op has begun construction of a card lock fuel station on Highway 7 at the service road entrance to the Village of Vanscoy. Land work wil be completed this fall and construction will begin in spring. Card lock membership drives will take place this winter.
Co-op Fuel Good Day and Friday BBQ Fundraisers
T
he annual Co-op Fuel Good Day was held on September 21st this year. Five cents from every litre of fuel purchased from Co-op locations was donated to various local charities chosen by the local co-op retailers. The Delisle Ag Co-op raised $1,050 which was donated to the Vanscoy Multiple 4-H Club. Despite the pandemic restrictions, the Co-op was still able to host a reduced number of fundraiser BBQ’s this summer as well. $7,000 was raised for various local charities.

A
Time to Support our Troops
s summer slowly gives way to winter we once again embrace the ritual of showing respect and remembering the sacrifices that others have made for the quality of life we have all enjoyed since World War II. It was a time when the world was united against a common enemy that tried to spread propaganda and misinformation in a failed bid to divide and conquer us. Not only did many nations send their young men and women into harms way to eliminate this evil, the people left at home sacrificed as well, giving up many staples, luxuries and personal freedoms in a united effort to achieve victory. Soldiers who fought, many whom died, are who we recognize by wearing a poppy once a year, but we respect them all year by respecting our freedoms. Freedom to express our opinions... but not spread disinformation ! Freedom to travel across Canada... but not drive drunk without a seatbelt ! Freedom to control our own bodies... but not to spread viruses onto others ! For almost two years now the world has again been united to fight a common enemy, the COVID-19 pandemic. Again we have sent our men and women into harms way to fight this disease and develop systems to keep us safe so we can continue to enjoy our freedoms. Yet... some of us seem to have trouble supporting these troops this time.

And this time the personal sacrifices of those not on the front lines are very small, yet still some of us can’t accept a simple mask and a jab this time. With hospitals jammed with covid cases, including former PPC candidate Mark Friesen who refused to join the fight, the province is now calling on the actual armed forces to once again fight for us. As troops arrive here, we are shipping Mark Friesen to Ontario in an attempt to save his live for a mere $20,000. Way to support our troops Mark ! On November 11th I urge everyone to look back on their behaviour in the past year and be honest with yourself as to how you have supported our troops. If didn’t want to wear a mask... then please don’t wear a poppy. If you didn’t want $2 of vaccine in you... then don’t ask for a $20,000 ventilator. But if you happen to regret your past actions and aren’t sure of the way out... go get your shot, donate $5 for a poppy, wear it proudly, find a service member or vet and thank them for giving you the freedom to learn from mistakes. Down the Road

We're Getting Married
L
ate one summer afternoon I was finishing the short hike along the Mill Hill trail, just down the road from where I live. The final section of the trail I was on was soft with pine needles and maple leaves and mostly shaded but with some sunlight dappling the path. Almost cool and refreshing after the warmth of the exposed sections of the trail. There was a young couple ahead of me with a small dog, still a puppy. Just before the parking lot they stopped off to one side of the path to put the leash back on their dog. They were both crouching down closely over the little puppy, heads together, shoulders touching and speaking together in the soft murmuring tones that young lovers use. I said a quiet hello as I went past, just letting them know I was there, not wanting to startle them and they responded back just as quietly and distractedly. I got to the parking lot and walked the dozen or so steps over to my truck. I got my keys out, opened the door and was standing there looking around, breathing deeply, cooling off when the young couple emerged from the trees. They appeared into the parking lot, walking slowly, hand in hand, with the little dog dancing and prancing along beside them.
The young lady saw me and immediately came skipping over and "We're getting married, we're getting married!" she announced. The young man had proposed to her and she had accepted as I had been walking by on the trail. "You're the first person we've told" she said, "I just had to tell somebody." The girl was happy and excited, the young man was quieter but also smiling broadly. I congratulated them and thanked them for telling me, that I was very pleased to hear their news and wished them well, all the best in the future. Amazing, I thought, and wonderful what you can hear when you're in the right place at the right time. I drove away with memories of the ambience of warm summer air, the scent of pine needles, the softness of leaves underfoot and the optimism of young love. P.S. Congratulations to Laurie and Tom, married in September 2021 love is always young.

Perdue Fire Department held its grand opening on October 13, 2021. The event was well attended with the Fire Department providing a free barbeque. The new fire hall was made possible with joint collaboration of the Village of Perdue, the Village of Kinley, the RM of Perdue and a donation from Cargill.
Operation Santa in Asquith Provides Christmas Hampers for 22 Years
A
squith’s Operation Santa is a Christmas Hamper program that was formed by a group of concerned citizens in Asquith who wanted to help needy people. The program is now starting year twenty-two. Every year, the community of Asquith and area is generous in their support, both monetary and in donated grocery items. Gifts for the children of the needy families have been donated in past years, as well as lovely hand-knitted toques and mittens for the children. Last year, the program provided hampers and groceries to ten family units, in which there were ten children. Thanks to the generosity of the community, a small gift for each child was also provided with the hamper. The program is being run again this year, with a goal to provide grocery and Christmas Meal hampers, as well as small gifts for the children, to the families that are needy. Request forms will be available at the Asquith Co-op, the Post Office, and the Town office. All recipients’ names are very confidential; we protect each person’s dignity. Applicants are screened to ensure that help is directed where most needed. All requests for hampers MUST be turned in to the Asquith Town Office by December 3rd, 2021. If you are wanting to donate a small gift for a child, this must be turned in to the Town office prior to the December 3, 2021 deadline.
We are appealing to our entire community to be a part of this. We would like to thank you for any help you might be able to give, be it in the form of a food drive for donated grocery items or a cash donation. We do not give cash out to families or individuals, rather all cash donations are used to purchase appropriate hamper items locally. s we continue to vaccinate our way through the pandemic the annual influenza vaccines are now available as well, and there are many choices of locations to get them. Walk-in Clinics often run at the Outlook Heritage Centre, Perdue Recreation Complex, Delisle Senior Centre, Davidson Town Hall as well as in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park and Station 20 West. Appointments can be made at some pharmacies in Langham, Biggar, Rosetown and many in Saskatoon at Wal-Mart, Co-op, Shoppers, and independents. Use the provincial website to confirm what is available in you community. Many offer both the Covid-19 and the annual influenza vaccines. www.4flu.ca

ack lane pickup will end on October 31 for the season. Anything left in the alleys will not be picked up until Spring. Once again, cats; whether strays or pets; have been topic of discussion. While there is no bylaw for the control of cats; they are considered a nuisance if they are wandering into neighboring yards unwanted. Cats need to be kept under control and confined to the owner’s yard. The Chiefs will again this year be looking after the Vanscoy Arena. Contact them for booking ice time or to check for Public Skating times once the ice goes in.

ouncil held a regular meeting on October 12th.
The Town reconfirmed that all provincial Covid guidelines/regulations for their public facilities will be observed without adding any further Covid regulations of their own. Council accepted the quote of $67,985.00 plus taxes submitted by Jayco Builders Inc. for the construction of the Splash Park storage building. A new grill was purchased for the arena kitchen. A number of outdated bylaws were repealed.

squith Town Council held its regular council meeting on October 13, 2021.
Attending were Mayor Gail Erhart, Councillors, Jackie Stobbe, Cecilia Mryglod, Darcy Stack, and Jeff Eide. Also attending was C.A.O. Kathy Picketts. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. A resolution was made to accept the council minutes from the September 8, 2021, regular council meeting. Council made a motion to accept the September 2021 financials and September 2021 bank reconciliations as presented to them at the meeting. Accounts Paid in the amount of $31,967.96 and Accounts Payable of $124,874.48 were accepted as presented. Foreman Kraft reported that the Asquith Fire Department dealt with a large fire three miles north of Asquith on September 23, 2021. Recycled asphalt was applied and packed down on Hartley Avenue. Town trees were also trimmed this month. The “Fall Cleanup” weekend was another success. The Public Works Department is in the process of putting up a fence in the sportsgrounds. The Asquith Recreation Board issued grant cheques to the Asquith Fencing Club, LAS School Community Council, LAS Athletics, and the Asquith Sports Center. January 1, 2022, council plans to raise the monthly minimum charge for water to $30.25 per month. The basic monthly minimum for all utility bills will now be $94.00 as of January 1, 2022. I have also been made aware that recycling rates will be going up also in the new year, as per Loraas Disposal. Council would like to remind all residents that if you see something that is a crime or looks criminal, to call the RCMP at 306-975-1670. If you see individuals driving dangerously, speeding, or if you see something that just does not look right, please call the RCMP. It does not do any good to come into the Town office the next day to report it to office staff. It is extremely important that the RCMP have a handle on crime, no matter how petty, is occurring in town.

A
fter what felt like a really slow start, with the many utilities relocation delays, the splash park construction has gotten back on track. Within the past month we have seen the actual splash pad poured, as well as the mechanical storage building foundation. We have had the irrigation system for the green space installed and just recently laid the sod for the entire space. We need to thank the many volunteers who made short work of that job. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Norma, family, and staff at TUFF TURF for the generous donation of sod. Our local fire Department gets warm thanks as well, for watering the newly placed sod. We still expect to see some activity over the winter months with the building being built offsite but assembled here by February. We will have some finishing work on the splash pad as well as some safety work to complete in early spring. The committee is confident that the Splash Park grand opening will happen at our targeted date in May 2022.
We thank all those businesses, citizens, sponsors, donors, and grant providers who have made this a reality for Delisle. We continue to seek funds now for the beautification and furnishing of the green space. If you are interested in donating either monetarily or with furnishings you can contact the Splash Park committee chair- Deb Winder or the Splash Park Committee via our Facebook page. T
he Vanscoy & District Agricultural Society loves bingo and we love your support; however this year continues to bring great uncertainty. We have made the difficult decision to cancel our annual Turkey Bingo (Nov. 20th).

emembrance Day services across Saskatchewan are uncertain due to the changing pandemic restrictions. Some communities have cancelled services all together while others are moving ahead in various ways. Some services will be held virtually online, some schools are holding services
closed to the public, while yet other communities are planning parades and wreath laying ceremonies and some communities are still in planning stage. Contact your local Legion, school or municipal council for more information on services being planned in your community.

Safety Tips for Seniors Pike Lake Fire & Rescue - Home Safety Tip #9
This Month’s safety tips are focused on safety for our seniors. More and more elderly adults are choosing to “Age in Place” over retirement homes or living with immediate family. And it makes sense, not only do seniors that remain independent have better health outcomes, they report a drastically higher quality of life and productivity. Check the Bathroom. Because of wet, slippery surfaces, injuries often occur in the bathroom. • Make sure bath mats, and shower floors are protected with high grip coatings. • Install grip bars near the shower and toilet. • Consider a hand-held showerhead, it is often easier to use. • Have a nightlight present.
Fire and CO2 protection. • Change batteries in Smoke and CO2 detectors regularly. • Consider a monitored smoke and CO2 alarm. This will allow for you to be notified should there be an alarm. • Keep emergency numbers handy. Reduce Fall Risk • Remove throw rugs with no rubberized backing. • Avoid extension cords across the floor. • Consider automated sensors for security and fall prevention monitoring. • Have a clean and uncluttered nightstand and floors. Remove any unnecessary furniture and clutter. • Make sure the phone is within reach of the bed. • Good nighttime lighting. Replace any
burnt out light bulbs. • Have your assistive equipment within reach. • Make sure stairs have handrails and are properly attached at the right height. • Stairway lighting. Make sure walkways are well lit. Ceiling lights with well-placed switches at top and bottom of stairs. • Make sure your loved ones wear non-slip footwear inside. • Check in with them often.
