85 kilometre pipeline expansion is being staged on east side of Delisle
askEnergy’s natural gas transmission subsidiary, TransGas Limited, is building an 85kilometre, 20-inch natural gas transmission pipeline. The pipeline begins at an existing TransGas compressor station near Rosetown, and head northeast, tying into the pipeline system near Vanscoy. The pipeline will parallel an existing TransGas pipeline wherever feasible. TransGas is also expanding its existing Rosetown Compressor Station to support the proposed pipeline expansion. The Rural Municipalities in the project area include: the RM of St. Andrews (No. 287), the RM of Harris (No. 316), the RM of Marriott (No. 317) and the RM of Vanscoy (No. 345).
The pipeline and station expansion will allow TranGas to increase the natural gas transportation capacity of the system, bringing additional natural gas supply to the area. This expansion is necessary to accommodate current and future residential, commercial and industrial growth in the west-central area of the province. There should be minimal impact to area residents during construction; however, some farming operations may experience temporary minor inconveniences. TransGas will work to minimize adverse impacts, and is committed to negotiating fairly with any landowners affected by our activities. Environmental factors and concerns are key considerations when pipeline routes

and facility sites are selected. Where practical, facility locations are selected to avoid or mitigate these sensitivities. Local First Nations are also engaged to gain knowledge of traditional land use and identification of culturally sensitive areas near the proposed route/site where impacts may exist. The pipeline project is currently estimated to cost $85 million. The compressor station expansion is currently estimated at $34 million. Construction on the pipeline and the compressor station expansion was scheduled to begin this spring but due to the current pandemic the start date has not been determined.

The Three Fevers
few short months ago when this pandemic exploded into our world we were running around taking peoples temperature to see if they showed signs of a High Fever ! Then after a month or so of staying home we all developed Cabin Fever ! After another month of creative social distancing, winter finally broke, and we have all developed Spring Fever ! Governments around the world are announcing the coming easing of social distancing restrictions in order to breath some life into the economy, and some people are jumping the gun and already easing restrictions on their own. The potential of some sort of release, after waiting for so long, has all of us as excited as a 12 year old boy with his first girlie magazine. But, like the young boy, what if we don’t get the results we are seeking ? Starting the spread of the virus all over again. Could we get through another three month shut down ? Or longer ?? It could be the worst case of blue balls in world history !
On a brighter note, Mother’s Day is fast approaching on May 10th and I wish to apologize to every mother that has just read my blue balls analogy. Sorry ! I encourage everyone to celebrate their mothers with extra energy this year, but look at it as our first test of social easing combined with spring fever.

Now what could one do for the most important person in their life on Mother’s Day ? Well... many mothers are actually the ones running our various local home based businesses. You could get a bonus by supporting one mother while you celebrate your own. Check it out ! Another thought is to get her a garden going this summer or help her with the one she already has. You could actually help her with it all summer since you will still have nothing to do.

Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, we have seen this spirit reflected in the stories coming out of our province of the innovators. Researchers at the U of S who are working towards a vaccine, a SKfounded company at the forefront of developing rapid-testing, and engineers who have developed 3D-printable N95 masks, to name just a few. We see it in all of the people in my riding of Regina Qu’Appelle, across Saskatchewan and in communities across the country who are working so incredibly hard on the front lines– from the nurses and doctors and healthcare workers, to support staff, truck drivers, cleaners, pharmacists and grocery store workers. And in all of you, who are observing physical distancing and sacrificing time with family and friends in order to flatten the curve and keep the most vulnerable among us safe. The parents who have now become teachers, while trying to work from home. Neighbours running errands for the elderly. Community groups collecting food and essential supplies for those who have lost their jobs and are worried about the future. It is that strength and resilience that inspires our entire Conservative team to work just as hard for you. We have been part of Team Canada since Day 1, putting forward constructive solutions to help Canadians affected by the pandemic. Because of the work done by our Conservative caucus, the wage subsidy was raised from 10% to 75%. We made sure that small business loans became more accessible. We didn’t give up until the government finally began to help the energy sector. And we won’t stop, because there is so much more to be done.
Conservatives recognize that we must continue to help Canadians through the health impacts of this crisis. We have called on the government to fast-track Health Canada approvals for new drugs and tests, including the ones developed right here in Saskatchewan. We also continue to advocate for front-line healthcare workers to make sure that they have the personal protective equipment they need. We’ve also proposed ways to further help businesses and workers by allowing banks and credit unions to deliver loans until companies’ wage subsidies arrive, rebating the GST that small businesses have collected in the last twelve months, and to increasing the Charitable Donation Tax Credit, which will provide much-needed support to those who are working to help those who have been hit hardest by this crisis. And earlier this week, we proposed a new program to match students and youth employees with jobs in the agriculture and agri-food sector, to address labour shortages in Canada’s food supply chains. We will continue to press the government about their plans to increase testing and tracing so that health restrictions can be revised when it is safe, so that Saskatchewanians can get back to work and start to help rebuild our economy. The last six weeks have been extremely difficult for Canadians. My thoughts are with all of those who have lost loved ones. The recovery process will be long. However, working together, I know that we will emerge stronger than ever. Please know that our Conservative team is working hard on your behalf. Hon. Andrew Scheer Leader of Canada’s Conservatives Member of Parliament for Regina Qu’Appelle

anscoy Village Council cancelled their April meeting and plan to resume with holding regular meetings in May. With the Province’s re-open the economy plan and following their guidelines, all recreation buildings will remain closed until the Phase 4 dates have been determined. The Village Office will remain closed to the public until further notice. Council has plans to do some work in the alleys – that means grading and levelling, placement of gravel where needed and laying down milled asphalt in some of the worst areas in the Village. ith all the little ninjas and private eyes in and around their yards this spring, the coming weeks will be a perfect time to get them engaged in NatureWatch! This citizen science project gives public of all ages an opportunity to learn about their environment while contributing to a data set that scientists need to monitor and protect it. This data is being used to add to our knowledge of the effects of climate change and other impacts on biodiversity. People of all ages and skill sets can participate in NatureWatch. The four programs allow you to participate at your own pace and chosen locations, even in your own backyard. While the monitoring protocols are scientifically rigorous, they are quick and easy to follow, and cater to beginner and expert alike. Some of the NatureWatch programs are PlantWatch, FrogWatch, and WormWatch.
Rebecca Magnus Conservation & Education Manager, Nature Saskatchewan
PlantWatch participants observe the first bloom, mid bloom and leaf out of 18 native or 2 non-native plants in their area. Observations of a plant at the same location over many years will help us understand how climate change is affecting the blooming times of specific plants in Saskatchewan. FrogWatch participants listen for toad and frog calls during mating season in the springtime. Frogs and toads can be used as indicator species of a healthy environment, because they are vulnerable to changes in the atmosphere, the land, or the water. By participating in this program you will help increase our knowledge of frogs and toads in Canada. WormWatch participants record how many and what species of earthworms are located at their site. The number of worms in a specific volume of earth can tell us a lot about how the habitat is being managed, because earthworms are very sensitive to soil disturbance.

POLICE REPORT Corman Park Police Service April 6 - 28
By Chief Warren Gherasim
On April 9 at 10:15 p.m., Corman Park Police were alerted to a chase coming out of the City of Saskatoon. The Saskatoon Police Service had attempted to stop a vehicle which had then failed to stop for the police. It was determined that the vehicle was stolen and that one of the occupants was wanted on outstanding warrants. The vehicle left the city limits heading towards Dalmeny through the RM of Corman Park. The Saskatoon Police Air Support Unit monitored the vehicle northbound. The vehicle approached the Town of Dalmeny where the Dalmeny Police attempted to place a spike belt in its path, but the vehicle avoided the spike strip and hit a sign pole and continued on. The vehicle came to a stop in a snow bank near the intersection of Township Road 394 and Range Road 3072. Officers from the Corman Park Police and the Saskatoon Police Service were able to arrest both occupants, a 28-yearold male and a 37-year-old female, both residents of Saskatoon. They were both taken into custody by the Saskatoon Police Service and processed on charges of possession of stolen property, flight from police and others. The vehicle, a Dodge 2500 pickup truck, was recovered. On April 10 at 8:00 a.m., Corman Park Police were patrolling on the Patience Lake Road near Freeborn Road in the RM of Corman Park when a BMW vehicle was observed at a high rate of speed eastbound on the highway. Police obtained a radar reading of 165 km/h in the 90 km/h zone. The vehicle was stopped by police and the driver was identified as a 50-year-old male resident of the Saskatoon area. The man advised he had no excuse for the speed and was just “blowing off some steam.” The man was issued an offence notice for speeding with a voluntary payment option of $1,078. His vehicle was impounded for seven days for exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 50 km/h. On April 10 at 10:12 p.m., Corman Park Police observed a Ford Explorer travelling eastbound on Highway 5 near the Saskatoon city limits at a high rate of
speed in an 80 km/h zone. Police obtained a radar reading of 170 km/h on the vehicle and managed to stop it east of Saskatoon. The driver was identified as a 16-year-old male who was operating the vehicle on a learner’s licence without a licenced driver next to him providing instruction. The man was issued a violation ticket for speeding with a voluntary payment option of $1,246, and a $150 ticket for driving without a qualified driver. The vehicle was impounded for seven days for driving at a speed greater than twice the speed limit.
On April 11 at 9:35 a.m., Corman Park Police observed a 2009 Toyota Sequoia truck in the Cathedral Bluffs sub-division. Police observed some erratic driving and stopped the truck. The driver, a 77-year-old Saskatoon man, admitted to alcohol consumption prior to driving. The officer made a breath demand, to which the man complied and supplied a sample of breath into a roadside screening device, which resulted in a reading of FAIL. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Martensville RCMP Detachment where he provided two samples of breath, each at 80 mgs%. The man’s vehicle was impounded, his driver’s licence suspended and he was released on impaired driving charges. On April 22nd, 2020, Warman RCMP received a report of an erratic driver leaving Saskatoon and travelling towards Warman on Highway 11. RCMP conducted a traffic stop and located four males in the suspect vehicle, travelling to Ile-a-la-Crosse, SK. 45 grams (1.6 oz.) of crack cocaine, with a street value of approximately $2,400 was located inside the vehicle. Three individuals were charged with offences relating to drug trafficking and impaired driving and were released for a future court date. Two days later, on April 24th, 2020, Warman RCMP were conducting patrols in the RM of Corman Park and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in breach of his curfew conditions. Subsequent to his arrest, 26 grams (1 oz.) of metham-

Liberals Consider Regulating Speech

arlier this week, the CBC reported that the Liberal Government is considering introducing legislation that would make it an offence to knowingly spread misinformation about COVID-19. I am extremely concerned about this report. To be clear, no one supports the intentional spreading of misinformation on COVID-19. That is why we already have laws to protect against such actions. Fraud and making false and dangerous health claims are both illegal presently. The Government should not take advantage of a health crisis to infringe on our hard-fought fundamental rights. This is all the more concerning given that only weeks ago, Health Minister Patty Hajdu accused a Canadian reporter of “feeding into conspiracy theories” for asking questions about the legitimacy of China’s COVID-19 case data. We now know that there is an abundance of reasons to question the information coming out of communist China, including a report by intelligence agencies in the United States indicating that the real data was suppressed.
Kelly Block, MP April 17, 2020
Furthermore, two weeks ago, the Liberals said masks didn’t work. Now they say to wear a mask. They said closing borders didn’t work. Now they say it’s necessary.
Journalist Anthony Furey made the following observation in his April 4th article: ”Dr. Theresa Tam and her provincial counterparts will speak with absolute certainty on something (“Travel bans don’t work”) up until the moment they do a 180 and start saying the exact opposite.” If the Liberals are concerned about misinformation, the Liberals should focus on getting their own facts straight rather than infringing on free speech and controlling what Canadians say online. Our Conservative Party will always protect freedom of speech. We will oppose the Liberal government’s attempts to limit our freedoms and restrict people from challenging what the government says is or isn’t true. As I said when the Liberals tried to bypass Parliamentary oversight a few weeks ago, we can never allow a crisis to be an excuse for surrendering our rights to Government under the guise of “protection”.

COMMUNITY REPORTS
Vanscoy & District Ag Society Cancellations and Contests
he Vanscoy & District Agricultural Society hopes everyone is staying well and connected during these strange times. The health and safety of your family is our number one priority and we are taking safety precautions with planning our future events. With that, we are sad to declare our Perennial Exchange cancelled for the year of 2020. To all the eager gardeners who have thoroughly enjoyed this event in the past or to those who were eager to join in the fun this year, we hope you find joy in your gardens at home! For those in Grades 4-6 and still haven’t entered in our poster competition, we are excited to tell you that there is still a chance to enter! The deadline has been extended to May 15th, 2020 and the criteria stays the same: a black and white piece of artwork that is inspired by agriculture and the theme ‘Days Gone By’. The contest is open to anyone, grade 4-6, in the RM of Vanscoy (Vanscoy, Delisle, Pike Lake, Asquith, Grandora, or home schooled). You can submit your artwork by scanning and emailing it to vanscoyag@gmail.com or by dropping it off in the mailbox at 625
Valleyview Dr. in Delisle. The winner of the contests will have their masterpiece on the front cover of our fair catalogue and will receive $15. 2nd place will receive $10 and 3rd place will receive $5. We can’t wait to see your creations! The deadline for the Grade 12 Bursary is May 29, 2020. The Vanscoy & District Agricultural Society will be giving up to $1000 to a deserving student. This bursary is available to anyone in the RM of Vanscoy who is completing Grade 12 and furthering their education at a postsecondary institution in the fall of 2020. Our application form is available on our website: vanscoyag.com. We encourage all Grade 12 students to apply. The winner is chosen based on their need, commitment to the community, and passion for their future; high marks are not the main focus. You can submit your application forms by scanning and emailing it to vanscoyag@gmail.com or by dropping it off in the mailbox at 625 Valleyview Dr. in Delisle. If you have any other question regarding the bursary feel free to contact us at vanscoyag@gmail.com or (306) 4933023.

Eagle Creek Wildlife Federation
O
ur annual fundraising functions have all been cancelled including the March 21 Banquet and Awards night to be held in Perdue and the Fish Fry to be held in Asquith on April 26. Hopefully these will continue at some later date. The Gun Raffle was held in the Prairie Pride office in Saskatoon on March 31. The winner is Lorie Lubyk. This year our branch put forward $10,000 towards the land purchase at Perdue at NW 15-35-12 W3M. The land is now owned by Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and is part of the Habitat Trust Program. This will be announced at the 2021 convention in Saskatoon.
Tree Canada will support our program to plant trees, suitable for the habitat, on the land purchase. We’ll need volunteers to help do this. We also donated $500 to the Habitat Trust Fund and $500 to the Hannin Creek Education Centre at the February convention held in Weyburn. Thank you to everyone for your support in the past year with donations to our Fundraising Banquet and Awards Night, purchasing raffle tickets and buying memberships. All this helps us run our conservation programs. Looking forward to the Convention in Saskatoon in 2021. Everyone stay safe. Karen Duguid
John Arcand Fiddle Fest Cancelled
F
or the past 22 years, the John Arcand Fiddle Fest has been a wonderful gathering of artistic talents and it has been such a pleasure each year to bring together music, dance, culture and art enthusiasts from across Western Canada, to facilitate, participate and spectate. We are sad to announce that because of health and safety regulations due to COVID-19, the Board of Directors has decided to cancel our 23rd Annual festival scheduled for August 6-8th, 2020. It is a hard decision, but the health and safety of our patrons, artists, staff, volunteers and all involved has to be our priority. Our hearts go out to the many artists and artisans who have had their sole means of income come to an abrupt halt.
An artist posted on Facebook they are waiting as patiently as possible to be able to walk onto stage and say “how you all doing out there tonight?” WOW...isn’t that the truth! Please do with you can to help them out as we navigate through these challenging times. We are exploring online options to mark our 23rd year but at this time we are not sure what that will look like. Please continue to watch our Facebook page and our website for more notifications. Until we can musically meet again – stay safe..... If you have questions or want more information about supporting the John Arcand Fiddle Fest, please contact www.johnarcandfiddlefest.com
