When the time inevitably comes to down-size and move on, many people are reluctant to relocate to the hustle and bustle of the city. For those people, who wish to maintain the relaxed lifestyle of rural living, there is no place like home, except at the Borden Care Home. This non-profit personal care home opened in 2001 and has been offering unique Level 1 & 2 care for up to 16 residents at a time, that cannot be found at care homes in the big city. My acquaintance thought, because I didn't specify the exact day, that I was being coy. But my response was not an effort to be coy but rather to give a very broad target for the offering of birthday greetings. Sometimes people will feel like they can't say "Happy Birthday" because it was yesterday, or last week or last month and now it's too late. Well, I don't feel that way at all - if you offer me birthday greetings in April, give or take a month, I am good with that. I am not particularly punctilious about the day and month detail. Every now and then, I hear somebody say, "Oh, I don't bother with my birthday anymore." and sometimes they'll add, "Birthdays are for kids." Well, I don't buy that. Some birthdays, the early-in-your-life birthdays, are watershed birthdays like 13 when you become a teenager (always a "memorable" moment and one heralding many more "memorable" moments - for the parents). And then there is 16 when you can get your driving license. (When my daughter turned 16 and was learning to drive, we would take my old truck to the cemetery just down the road from where we lived. Once in the cemetery, I would let her take the wheel. I figured everybody in there was dead already - what harm could she do?) Then there is 18, when you can vote and get elected to government office; after that, and depending on the province, there is 21 when you can go to the bar (legally). You have to be 30 before you can be appointed to the Senate (still way too young, in my opinion). Other birthdays are also watershed moments but are not as well recognized or only informally acknowledged: you have to be 40 before you get a brain, and you have to be 50 before you start using it. (Or so I have been told, encouragingly.) And by 60 (also as I have been told and still encouragingly) you are assumed to be reasonably familiar with

the instruction manual "Using Your Brain for Dummies". (My own personal experience with having a brain is that a brain is very much like a wine bottle corkscrew an inordinately large percentage of the time it is left in the drawer to do nothing with.) And there are also, as you get even older, the "target" year birthdays, when you think in terms of 5-year chunks, for when you can retire: 55, 60 and 65. Woo-Hoo. (When I got to my watershed year of 60, one of the neighbours sent over a bottle of home-made wine. I thought that was very kind and was all set to open it when Mrs B stopped me. "Let's save it for a special occasion", she says. Long pause. "Hey . . ." I protest.) Personally, it is the 50th birthday that holds particular significance for me. There was a fellow at work, just a few months older than me at the time, who told me he had his 50th birthday the week previous. He said he had visited his mother on that day and thanked her for having him. I was struck by that - what an admirable perspective on life, I thought, what a frank understanding, both intellectual and visceral, of one's place in the universe. And I resolved to adopt that same perspective. Because birthdays aren't just about what people do for you - feed you cake or give you presents or treat you like a grown-up. Birthdays are, also, and more importantly, about what you do for yourself - celebrate yourself, your life, by acknowledging the people who gave you life and the people who contribute to your enjoyment of life. When people say they are too old to celebrate birthdays anymore, they are wrong. Getting older is a gift - it means you have a pulse. Be thankful for it - and celebrate it. Happy My Birthday, everybody - and thank you for all the enjoyment you bring into my life.

Did you know……that if you take out a building permit, the onus is on the property owner to contact the building inspector to make a final inspection and to close the permit. Failure to do so results in your permit being left open and as such could pose a real problem for you should you decide to sell your property. If you are not sure whether your permit was finalized or closed, please feel free to contact the Asquith Town Office. If you have recently changed your phone number, please contact the Asquith Town Office to update. Spring is here and of course with spring comes issues of water and drainage. It is suggested that all residents ensure that there are no ice dams on their roof tops and that their eavestroughs are working correctly and that they are pointed away from the foundation of the home. As of January 1, 2022, all pet licenses and business licenses were due.

Placed near an exit in an easy to grab spot, it can put out a small fire or at least suppress the flames while you escape. There are several different types of Fire Extinguishers depending on what type of fire they can extinguish. They are labeled for Class A, B, C or D type fires or a combination. 306-931-6996 Mon-Fri 7 - 8 Sat 8 - 8 Sun 9 - 7 It is great sadness to have the love of my life and best friend, Lora Chapple pass away on Dec 23 2021. The lord has taken her away way to soon, we all miss her so much. I would like to thank the community, friends and family for all your loving support through this time. Lora was so involved in the community and school. She touched the hearts of so many. I met Lora on Oct 23 1992. We were so young but it felt so right when we were married on July 8th 1995. We are blessed with four amazing kids. Tara (24), Josh (21), Carrie (17), and Cole (15). She was so proud of each and every one of them in each of their own ways. Tara had just bought a house in the city and Lora was already designing many different options for her kitchen. Josh had just bought a trailer and set up in a yard site just south of farm. She had many plans on helping with that yard and house also. Carrie was accepted into early childhood development two year program late last year. Lora was so proud of that. Cole, in grade 10 continues to have excellent grades and excelling in football and curling. She was so proud of all his accomplishments. We had just purchased a cabin in 2019. So blessed that we were able to make it our own for the 3 years. It is our "happy place" as Lora made it our own with her signs everywhere. Lora had a love of crafting as many of you may know. There are memories of her everywhere at home and the cabin with her crafting and signs

with many different sayings. Lora also had a love for flowers which she learned from her father, Brian Crowhurst. She truly had a love for life and family. Lora graduated Bedford Road high school in 1992. She then went to the University of Saskatchewan for her degree in nursing and then started nursing on the Medicine Ward (6200) at the Royal University Hospital where she spent her entire career of almost 25 years. She was a very proud nurse. She was looked up to by her co-workers. I definitely saw this over the past four years. Whenever she was hospitalized, someone would always recognize her and talk very highly of her. She was almost the most senior nurse on the ward. Lora’s co-workers on the unit have reached out in this time and shared their grief and have helped us out in this time of grieving. We are so grateful she worked with such a wonderful group of nurses. I will always remember them.

Della has been serving customers in our Vanscoy office for 18 years and will be missed by our entire team & community. Della started her insurance career in 2004 with Mooney Agencies owned by Erin Mooney. The business was sold to Landry, Stephanie and Courtney Klapwijk in March 2014 and then to Westland Insurance in May 2021. Della is an expert in personal insurance including home, auto & farm.

I am truly blessed to have had her in my life the past 30 years. She helped me and the kids to be who we are today. Love you so much Lora, and miss you every day ! Chris, Tara, Josh, Carrie, Cole

MP REPORT

Kelly Block, MP March 22, 2022

Arrangement for the NDP to Support Liberal Government Ottawa, ON – Kelly Block, Member of Parliament for Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek, released the following statement on the “confidence and supply” agreement between the Liberal and NDP caucuses. “Yesterday evening Canadians learned that the NDP caucus entered into an agreement to support the Liberal government through 2025. In her statement on the agreement, the Leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition said: “The NDP- Liberal coalition is nothing more than a callous attempt by Justin Trudeau to hold on to power. Canadians did not vote for an NDP government. This is little more than backdoor socialism.” End quote. I echo the comments of my colleague. The NDP were elected to hold the Liberals to account, not give them a free pass.

The people of Saskatchewan firmly rejected the policies and promises of both the NDP and Liberal parties understanding those policies would increase government spending, lead to higher taxes and hurt our economy. With rising inflation, out-of-control cost of living, and national unity at stake, Justin Trudeau knows he is losing the confidence of Canadians. Rather than change his policies and divisive rhetoric, the Prime Minister is doubling down and choosing to stay in power at all costs including implementing the more extreme policies of the NDP. If this NDP-Liberal coalition stands, Saskatchewan and our entire country are in for a 'very rough ride'.”
