There’s No Place Like Home

WELCOME

“Where we love is home – home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.” –Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.

A Message from the Gala Chairs There is a particular kind of relief that comes from having somewhere safe to land — a place to close the door at the end of a long day and feel, for a little while, like a family again. That is what Ronald McDonald House provides. A parent needs somewhere to sleep. A family needs a meal. A child needs to know the people they love are close by. These sound like small things. They are not — they are what carry a family through the hardest stretch of their lives. We see this up close every day, as physicians and as members of this community, through the families who stay at the House. The distance between a hospital room and a place that feels like home can be enormous. RMHC helps close that distance, and it takes a whole community — one that understands that care extends beyond the hospital’s walls — to make that possible. Tonight, we are proud to celebrate Alaska Airlines as the recipient of the Heart of the House Award. For 25 years, they have helped families access the care their children need and have remained part of the community that surrounds them once they arrive. We are so grateful to be here with all of you tonight. Your generosity shows up in the ordinary moments that become extraordinary during a hard season of life — a shared meal, a good night’s sleep, a hand to hold at the end of a difficult day. As physicians, we know how important it is to care for the whole family, not just the diagnosis. As gala chairs — and, for Mignon, as a member of this Board — we are fortunate to help champion the people and place who make that care possible. There is no place like home.

A Message from John Saavedra

Board President, Ronald McDonald House Tonight, we celebrate Alaska Airlines — not only for 25 years of partnership with Ronald McDonald House, but for the way they have shown up, year after year, for families and for our community. For us, home is more than a place. It’s a feeling: knowing you are cared for, that you belong, that you don’t have to walk through a difficult moment alone. For families whose children are receiving care far from home, that feeling can mean everything. Alaska Airlines has helped make it possible in more ways than we can count. But what makes this partnership so meaningful isn’t the list of what they’ve given — it’s what it reflects: a shared belief that showing up matters, and a genuine investment in this community. As I look out at this room tonight, I’m reminded that the true spirit of Ronald McDonald House isn’t found in a building. It’s found in the people who choose to show up — for a family, for a child, for one another. Alaska Airlines has been one of our most steadfast partners in that work, helping us carry the comfort of home to families who need it most. On behalf of our Board of Directors, our staff, our volunteers, our donors, and — most importantly — the families we serve: thank you, Alaska Airlines, for standing with us for 25 years. And thank you to everyone here tonight, for being part of it. Your presence is proof of what happens when a community comes together with heart, generosity, and a shared belief that every family deserves a place to call home. It is our privilege to celebrate Alaska Airlines tonight as the recipient of the Heart of the House Award. With gratitude,

JOHN SAAVEDRA Board President

A Message from Deniz Satir

Chief Executive Officer, Ronald McDonald House There is a moment every family we serve remembers — the moment they walk through our doors for the first time. Exhausted. Frightened. Carrying more than any parent should have to carry. And in that moment, something shifts. A room. A meal. A hallway where another family understands, without being told, exactly what you’re going through. It stops being a building. It becomes Home. This has been a remarkable year for Ronald McDonald House Seattle — not because one thing changed everything, but because so many things steadily moved us forward. Our partnership with Seattle Children’s has deepened in ways that will shape how we serve families for years to come. Alaska Airlines marks twenty-five years of showing up for us — not as a sponsor, but as family. Our McDonald’s community support is stronger than ever. New champions have joined our cause this year; and the staff and volunteers, who show up every day for families they will often never meet, have never been stronger. None of this happens by accident. It happens because all of you have decided that a family’s exhaustion, their need for a soft place to land, is worth your time, your generosity, your belief. Every dollar raised tonight, every hand raised for these families, becomes something real: a room kept warm, a place to fall apart, and a place to put yourself back together. We are standing in the middle of something lasting — not at the start, and not the end. We see, more clearly, what it looks like to do more for these families, and to do it better. That future is close enough to touch, because of you. Here is what I would like for all of you and every family who walks through our doors to know, long after tonight: Home is not something you have to earn, or hope for, or wonder if it will still be there. It is something we intend to make sure is simply, always, available. Thank you for believing in that promise, and in these families. Thank you for making tonight— and every day that follows — feel like exactly what it is. Home. With heartfelt gratitude,

DENIZ SATIR

Chief Executive Officer

About Ronald McDonald House Each night, Ronald McDonald House of Western Washington provides a home away from home for families with seriously ill children receiving treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital. With 105 rooms in Seattle, we keep families close to care and surrounded by support during one of the hardest times of their lives.

Comfort, Care, and Community We believe that when a child is seriously ill, the love and support of family is as important as medical treatment. Beyond free housing, families receive meals, everyday essentials like linens and toiletries, and the comfort of connecting with others who understand what they’re going through. Volunteers, donors, and partners create and sustain this compassionate community so no family faces their child’s illness alone.

Your Impact Every night of comfort, every meal, and every moment of community is made possible by supporters like you. By being here tonight, you help families focus on what matters most — the health of their child — without worrying about where they will sleep or how to cover daily needs. Together, we make hope, healing, and family come first.

2026 Heart of the House Award

There are partners who write a check, and there are partners who become family. For 25 years, Alaska Airlines has been the latter. Alaska Airlines has stood beside Ronald McDonald House not as a distant sponsor, but as a true partner in our mission. Their support has helped keep our doors open for families facing a child’s medical crisis, and their leadership — including service on our board — has helped guide Ronald McDonald House through seasons of growth and change. This year’s gala theme, There’s No Place Like Home, could not be a more fitting frame for this honor. Alaska Airlines, with great heart, knows better than most that home is family — that it is not just a place on a map, but the people waiting for you at the end of the journey. Because of their support, families who find themselves far from everything familiar know that Ronald McDonald House gives them a place to stay close to the ones who matter most, when it matters most. Tonight, we are proud to present Alaska Airlines with the Heart of the House Award — a recognition of a partnership defined by trust, consistency, and an unwavering belief in family.

A Message from Alaska Airlines For 25 years, Alaska Airlines and Ronald McDonald House Charities have shared something that matters deeply to both of us: a belief that when families are facing their hardest moments, no one should have to face them alone. At Alaska Airlines, we know a journey is more than getting from one place to another — it’s about the people and purpose behind every mile. And sometimes, the most important journey is the one that brings a family closer to home. For thousands of families who have traveled to Seattle for their child’s medical care, Ronald McDonald House has provided something extraordinary: a place to rest, reconnect, and simply be together. We’re honored to have played a small part in helping families get where they need to be — and, even more honored by the trust and friendship that has grown between our two organizations over these 35 years. Our partnership represents something larger than transportation or philanthropy. It reflects what we believe about the Pacific Northwest and the communities we’re fortunate to call home. Showing up for our neighbors, especially when they need us most, is part of who we are. Receiving the Heart of the House Award is an incredible honor. We accept it on behalf of the many Alaska Airlines employees, leaders, and partners who have made this relationship possible — and with deep gratitude for the families whose strength and courage inspire us every day. There truly is no place like home. And there is no greater privilege than helping someone get there. With gratitude,

JASON BERRY

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Alaska Airlines

Meet the Burchaks: Sara, Bryce, Luka, and Lyra

Every family who comes through our doors arrives carrying the same thing at the hardest moment of their lives: the will to keep going. Tonight, one family stands before you to represent them all — the ones who’ve stayed with us before, the ones staying with us now, and the ones who haven’t found us yet. This is the story of Sara, Bryce, Luka, and Lyra. Lyra was just four days old when doctors diagnosed her with an exceptionally rare and severe form of SCID — Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disorder, one of only 32 known cases. She needed a bone marrow transplant, and the best care was hundreds of miles from home, in Seattle. For months, Sara and Bryce split their lives in two, trading weeks between Spokane and Lyra’s hospital bedside, trying to shield their toddler son, Luka, from the upheaval for as long as they could. It was a quiet kind of courage — showing up for one child without ever letting go of the other. Then a room opened at Ronald McDonald House, and for the first time since Lyra’s diagnosis, the family could be together under one roof. Luka had a safe place to just be a kid again. Meals were on the table when exhaustion made everything else feel impossible. And there was a community of staff, volunteers, and other families who understood, without needing anything explained. That strength carried them. Today, Lyra is thriving in recovery, surrounded by her whole family, together at last — and hope looks like this: a home, when they needed one most. Families like Sara and Bryce’s are why Ronald McDonald House exists. Your support tonight means no family facing a child’s medical crisis has to choose between being there for their child and being there for each other.

Wrapped in Love – A One-of-a-Kind Ronald McDonald House Quilt Every Stitch Tells a Special Story.

For nearly four decades, a beautiful tradition has quietly unfolded at Ronald McDonald House. When a family arrives at the House, they are invited to choose a quilt of their very own — something warm and colorful to make an unfamiliar room feel a little more like home. It stays with them throughout their time at the Ronald McDonald House, and when it is finally time to leave, the quilt goes home with them. The quilt is a lasting reminder of the people who cared for their family along the way and during their stay. That tradition began in 1988, when Gretchen Waham, a member of the Block Party Quilters Club who knew personally what it meant to have a seriously ill child, envisioned providing each child at the Ronald McDonald House with something that felt like a warm and loving hug. Her fellow quilters embraced that vision, beginning a remarkable partnership with Ronald McDonald House that continues today. For this year’s theme There’s No Place Like Home, the Block Party Quilters have created something especially unique and meaningful: a one-of-a-kind quilt designed and handcrafted exclusively for this evening. Every piece of fabric, every stitch and every detail reflects the artistry of its makers and the spirit of a tradition that has brought comfort to thousands of children and families. Display it as a work of art. Drape it across a favorite chair. Or wrap yourself in it and remember what it represents: home, comfort, community — and the extraordinary things that can happen when love is made by hand. This is a one-of-a-kind treasure.

Value: A living work of art. A labor of love. A piece of our mission. Special Thanks: Block Party Quilters Club

Worn for a Cause – Designed from the Heart by AJ Barner Own a One-of-a-Kind Pair of Cleats from Super Bowl Champion AJ Barner.

They were designed for one game. Inspired by one special cause. But the story behind them goes well beyond football. Seattle Seahawks tight end and Super Bowl Champion AJ Barner has made Ronald McDonald House — and the families who call it home — his cause and his community. He has shown up for our families, spent time at the House and brought the same heart off the field that Seahawks fans see every Sunday. So, when it came time to choose the cause he would proudly carry onto the field for the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats, AJ chose our families and Ronald McDonald House in Seattle. These custom-designed cleats were created especially for Ronald McDonald House and worn by AJ during the 2025 My Cause My Cleats game. Now personally autographed, they offer one lucky bidder the opportunity to own something that simply cannot be found in a store. For the Seahawks fan, they are a remarkable piece of memorabilia from a Super Bowl Champion. For all of us at Ronald McDonal House, they represent something even more meaningful: what it looks like when someone chooses to use their platform, their time and their heart to stand beside families when they need their community most. This one-of-a-kind collectible includes: • AJ Barner’s game-worn and autographed 2025 My Cause My Cleats shoes, custom designed and created to support the Ronald McDonald House • A one-of-a-kind piece of Seahawks and Ronald McDonald history • A special connection to a Super Bowl Champion who has made our House and our families part of his community He wore them for our families. Now they can have a special place in your home.

Value: One-of-a-kind — and straight from the heart. Special Thanks: AJ Barner, Mike & Joely Meighan LIVE

Ronald McDonald House’s Mission Moment – Fund Our Families Standing Together for Our Families.

This is our last moment together tonight — one final chance, in this room, to stand shoulder to shoulder for the families who need us most. Because somewhere tonight, a family is walking through our doors for the first time — scared, exhausted, and hoping someone will be there. Let’s be the reason they’re not alone. Every gift you give from here is 100% tax-deductible, and every dollar does double duty: it meets a family’s need today, and it builds the foundation we’ll stand on for the families still to come. This is what it means to give with your whole heart, one more time before the night ends. ONE NIGHT Tonight, you will hear from the Burchak family — Sara and Bryce. Their journey, with their newborn Lyra, and a diagnosis no parent should have to face; and how they found in Seattle at the Ronald McDonald House what they needed the most. Their story is the story of every family we serve. It’s also a window into the thousands of nights that came before, and all the ones still ahead for those families we have yet to meet. ONE CAUSE Every gift tonight goes directly toward keeping our doors open — toward rooms ready for families the moment they arrive, meals that mean one less thing to worry about, and a staff and volunteer community trained to show up with exactly what a family needs, when they need it. This is the cause: making sure no family faces a child’s medical crisis alone when they are far from home. ONE COMMUNITY None of this happens alone. It takes a community like this one — donors, volunteers, board members, and friends who choose, together, to show up for families they may never meet. That’s the strength of shared purpose. It’s what built this House, and it’s what will carry it forward. ONE NIGHT. ONE CAUSE. ONE COMMUNITY. We are endlessly grateful for this community that never forgets. With every gift, at any level we are making it possible to do more for our families and to serve them better — today and tomorrow.

Volunteers are the heart of our House. With their essential help, we are able to exponentially increase the comfort and care provided to families. Whether it’s baking chocolate chip cookies, greeting families at the front desk, or helping sort and organize food donations, volunteers play a key role in making the House feel like home.

WE OFFER A VARIETY OF INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: As an individual, commit to a weekly shift to provide support and consistency for our families as you work closely with staff and other volunteers. Or schedule a group, such as your family, work team, friends, church members, or service organization, to come together for a one-time event. Whether you’re preparing a meal, hosting a movie, or helping around the House, your group can make a difference while spending meaningful time together. Adopt-A-Room

Provide Families with Comfort, Community, and Hope When a child is seriously ill, being together matters most. Ronald McDonald House makes that possible by offering families a safe, welcoming place to stay close to the hospital, at no cost to families. Through our Adopt-A-Room Program, a $5,000 annual sponsorship helps cover the cost of a family’s guest room during their child’s treatment. Your support goes beyond providing a place to stay — it provides comfort, community, and hope when families need it most. THE IMPACT IS PROFOUND:

“When people hear my son has cancer, they say, ‘I can’t imagine.’ They’re right. It’s overwhelming. But thanks to Ronald McDonald House, we have one less thing to worry about. You bring light to our darkest days. Thank you.” - A grateful Ronald McDonald House family

Each sponsored room includes a recognition sign, first right of renewal, and a personalized House tour to see the impact of your giving firsthand.

Interested in adopting a Family Guest Room? Please contact Shauna Tuey at shauna@rmhcseattle.org or (206) 868-0644.

Easy, Tax-Efficient Ways to Give There are many ways to support families at Ronald McDonald House beyond writing a check. Gifts of stock, contributions through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), and cryptocurrency can all be thoughtful ways to make a difference while potentially offering tax benefits. You can also donate a vehicle — a car, truck, boat, or motorcycle — and we’ll handle the pickup and paperwork. These giving options can provide important support for families while helping you make the most of assets you already have. Whether it’s appreciated stock, a vehicle you no longer use, or funds already set aside in a DAF, your gift can help provide nights of comfort, warm meals, and a caring community for families when they need it most.

Family Meal Program

Families staying at Ronald McDonald House spend long hours at the hospital, focused on their child’s health. The need to prioritize medical issues and still manage family life can leave them with minimal reserves. A delicious meal made in our kitchen by a caring community can make a difficult time so much easier.

To meet the needs of our families, we make 150 dinners daily. Through the Family Meal Program, you can help make sure a homemade meal is waiting for them at the end of a long day. Whether you make a donation or sponsor a meal and cook onsite, you’re providing comfort and courage to continue, and a tangible reminder that they are not alone. We invite you to visit our website or email volunteering@rmhcseattle.org to learn more about our Family Meal Program opportunities.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Nancy Centeno

There truly is “no place like home.” For more than 20 years, Nancy Centeno helped make Ronald McDonald House feel like home. A beloved member of our Environmental Services team, Nancy helped welcome more than 10,000 families through our doors. She understood that her work was more than making a bed. It was about making sure a weary family could walk in, set down their bags, and know someone had cared for them before they arrived. Much of her work happened behind the scenes, but families felt it. Families may never have known her name, but they knew the comfort she created. Nancy passed away in August, after a long battle with cancer. She will forever be part of the fabric of our House.

With deep gratitude and love, we remember Nancy.
