Family Dinner Spotlight Mercy Diagnostic X-ray Department When did you start providing meals at the Ronald McDonald House?

We started providing meals with the Family Dinner Program at the Mercy House around 2 years ago.

How did you get involved with the Family Dinner Program?

We got involved with the Ronald McDonald House through the Mercy Imaging group. We chose to sign up to serve a meal once a quarter.

Do you have any favorite memories?

Our favorite memory is from a breakfast meal we served last September. We had a lot more families come to dinner than we were expecting, and dinner almost turned into a restaurant! We were taking food orders and cooking the food with anything

we could find in the kitchen. It was a lot of fun serving so many families!

What is your favorite thing about participating in the Family Dinner Program?

Our favorite part about helping with the Family Dinner Program is getting to serve as a group. It is a lot of fun to serve families and patients with our co-workers!

What would you like to say to other groups who are considering volunteering with the Family Dinner Program?

I would say DO IT! It is a great way to give back to families going through a rough time, and it is so rewarding Would you like to contribute a recipe?

We don’t have any recipes to give… but Hong Kong Inn makes some great Chinese food! Even if you aren’t the best cook you can still be a part of the Dinner Program.

The 24th Annual Share a Heart Campaign numbers are in, and we are very pleased to announce another successful year! With $105,586 worth of hearts adopted, and $18,000 in generosity from our sponsors, we are once again impressed with the dedication of our supporters. These numbers aren’t possible without the support of our community, and we thank you for sharing your hearts and helping us expand the mission of the Ronald McDonald Houses.

Our reigning “Share a Heart” Champion also keeps his title with a recordbreaking $15,407 raised by TJ Slocum. TJ is a committed volunteer, and with the help of his parents, Randy and Debbie, continues to show his enthusiasm by selling more hearts than anyone each year. Since 2008, TJ has raised $87,731 for the Ronald McDonald Houses, and we are very grateful for his dedication. Good job, TJ!

Amber celebrated her first anniversary with Ronald McDonald House this month!

She has been a wonderful support in the office and we have really enjoyed having her joyful personality in the House on Thursday mornings. Let’s learn a little bit more about Amber.

What is your favorite thing to do at the House?

I love working in the front office. It is a great way to interact with all the staff and families.

What do you enjoy in your free time?

I love to watch movies, cook, or spend time with my family. I also run, but it’s not something I really enjoy doing. ☺ How did you learn about the Ronald McDonald House?

My dad was a part of the architectural

team for the Mercy House. My family also served dinner one night at the House and it was a great experience. I thought it would be fun to get more involved.

What are your extra-curricular activities?

Any extra free time I have I use to see friends. Between school and work there isn’t much time.

Do you have any favorite memories in the House?

Every week something fun happens! It would be hard to narrow it down.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

I love how friendly everyone is and also knowing that I am helping out a greater cause.

Welcome to the RMHC Family, Harrison Please help us in congratulating Mercy House Assistant Manager, Amy Crawford, on her newest addition to the Crawford family! Harrison Ray Crawford was born on February 25th weighing 4lbs. 11oz and was 18in. long. Little Harrison came two months early so as you can imagine it was quite a whirlwind for Amy and her husband Jeff. Harrison along with big sister Samantha and his parents are all doing well and enjoy being a family our four!

A Parent’s Love By: Emma Davis

The Tooth Truck visited Field Elementary School for the first time this year, and it was there we met Hunter.

Hunter, a second grader, came out to the Tooth Truck for his initial cleaning with visible anxiety and apprehension.

He made nervous small talk to try and detract from the fact that he was scared, and attempted to avoid answering any questions related to oral hygiene. After his initial exam Hunter was diagnosed with six total cavities, and would require four appointments.

We were not able to schedule all of his appointments during our time at Field so we began communication with his parents to schedule offsite appointments to complete his treatment.

a child’s treatment plan. If a child has any fears or anxiety over having dental treatment completed, it is crucial to show that child love and support, and encourage them to be confident in their ability to do whatever they set their mind to.

Hunter’s parents refused to let Hunter ever believe he would be anything but successful, and were beside him throughout the process until he was cavity free. Because of their devotion, Hunter knows he can overcome his fears surrounding the dentist and smile with confidence.

Hunter’s parents quickly agreed to schedule, and bring him, for any necessary appointments. They brought him to two separate locations, and were present during each of his restorative appointments to provide moral support and encourage Hunter to overcome his fears. His parents displayed an active and supportive role in Hunter’s treatment, and they made sure Hunter understood just how appreciative they were for the Tooth Truck’s help. After each appointment they ensured Hunter thanked the Tooth Truck staff for their help and generosity. His parents were his rock, from start to finish, and without their support he might not have been able to complete his dental care with the Tooth Truck.

Hunter has a great family support system to The parental role in dental care is often help him overcome his overlooked, and underappreciated, fears and successfully however it’s likely the most important complete four dental role of all. Parental support, and appointments on the encouragement, can make or break Tooth Truck.

Nurse Appreciation Week The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities would not be fulfilled without so many members of our community who provide much needed support. One element of our services involves partnerships with the local schools and hospitals.

School nurses are vital to ensuring the Tooth Truck reaches all the kids who need dental care, and hospital nurses help our staff educate families on the services provided at Ronald McDonald House. We appreciate the partnership of each and every nurse and organization we have the opportunity to work alongside to make a positive impact in our community!

Welcome to Mitchell The Tooth Truck welcomes Mitchell Hanson to its volunteer team. Mitchell is a recent graduate of Mizzou with a degree in Biological Engineering. He wanted to spend some time volunteering in Springfield before relocating to Kansas City for a full time position in healthcare later this year.

Mitchell loves educating and presenting new information to people, which aligns perfectly with his volunteer role on the Tooth Truck.

Price Cutter Charity Championship The Web.com Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper will be held August 10th – 13th at Highland Springs Country Club. The Ronald McDonald House has been a beneficiary since the inception of this event in 1990, providing $1,176,789 in support to our organization alone. More than half of the annual funding we receive through this event is from TLC Properties’ CHARITY SWEEPSTAKES TICKETS. The program features 500 prizes valued at $25 each, giving each Sweepstakes ticketholder a 1 in 16 chance to win a prize.

In addition, every ticketholder also has a 1 in 8,000 chance to win a 2017 F150 Pickup Truck or $10,000 cash prize.

All-Star Weekend JUNE 2-3, 2017

It’s an ALL-STAR weekend June 2-3, 2017. The 16th Annual Sertoma GRIN IRON CLASSIC (all-star high school football game) and the 6th Annual Sertoma GRIN ACTION CLASSIC (all-star high school volleyball tournament) will take place at Parkview High School in Springfield. RMHC of the Ozarks, the SW MO Football Coaches Association, and the All-Star Smiles Sertoma Club are hosting this “All-Star Weekend” featuring Southwest Missouri’s allstars, all graduated seniors. And…it all benefits the Tooth Truck! Volunteers are needed for both events and we’d love for YOU to join us.
