16th Annual Sertoma GRIN IRON CLASSIC The 16th Annual Sertoma GRIN IRON CLASSIC (GIC) is the East-West All-Star High School Football Game for Southwest Missouri. Presented by Delta Dental of Missouri and the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club, the event benefits the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®, fondly known as the “Tooth Truck”.

The GIC is organized by the Southwest Missouri Football Coaches Association, hosted by the All-Star Smiles Sertoma Club, and proudly features nearly 100 of the Ozarks’ best varsity football players, all graduated seniors.

In addition to the presenting sponsorship gifts of Delta Dental and HOTO Sertoma, Leadership Sponsors are the Greater Springfield Dental Society, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Youngblood Auto Group. Our supporting sponsor is Southern Bank. Our in-kind sponsors that go a long way in making the event possible each year are Mediacom, McCann Printing, McDonald’s, Price Cutter, Mercy Sports Medicine and Springfield Public Schools.

Thanks to GIC supporters like the sponsors, advertisers in this program, fans and participants, the Tooth Truck began treating at risk children on July 8, 2002, one month after the first GIC. Since that time, 50,600 dental appointments have been provided for 21,700 at risk children on our mobile dental clinic. The total value of dental treatment provided exceeds $13.1 million! The Tooth Truck visits local schools, five days each week. Summers are dedicated to summer school kids, the Boys & Girls Clubs, Great Circle and foster children.

School nurses are an integral part of the program’s success as are our dedicated dentists and staff members: Full-time General Dentist, Dr. Sarah Cimino; Community Dentists Dr. Aaron Dannegger, Dr. Brett Durbin, Dr. Misty Shelton, Dr. Blake Keaster, and Dr. Richard Burton; Program Director Mindy Munoz; Office Manager Emma Davis; Full-Time Dental Assistants Megan Lambert and Chelsea Murray; Part-Time Dental Assistant Kristi Terry; Healthy Smiles Academy Manager Tamara Maddox; and our wonderful volunteers.

ake a look inside the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile (a.k.a. “The Tooth Truck”!) This state of the art mobile dental office features two complete operatories and weighs in at 26,000 pounds.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is 43 feet in length, 8-1/2 feet wide, 12 feet 10 inches tall and built to handle extreme weather conditions. The unit

features self-contained water system and is completely heated and air conditioned to operate in any season. Advances in dental technology are such that any treatment that does not require complete sedation may be performed on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
