Few could have imagined the chaos that would unfold in 2020.

However, as much as things change, there is one reality that remains the same: medical illnesses don’t stop for a pandemic.

Children can become ill on weekends, holidays, and even during COVID-19. For the family of a hospitalized child, the Ronald McDonald House will be the most important House they will ever visit.

Like many of you, we had big goals and dreams for 2020 and had to adjust and pivot our priorities to this new reality. But we still had one goal in mind: provide the best possible support to families during their child’s medical journey. We became experts at video conferencing, social distancing, and wearing our masks. Our team swapped out business casual for paint clothes and seized the opportunity to give each House some TLC. Events were postponed or canceled, so new and creative ways of fundraising came into play.

There came times where there seemed to be no end in sight, but we kept going.

As a team, we worked towards a comprehensive plan for reopening safely to new families while ensuring the health and well-being of our staff, volunteers. and other guest families. This last year has taught us so much, there isn’t enough space in this letter to share it all. However, as we reflect on the impression 2020 and COVID-19 have left on each of us, we can share how proud we are of each other and our team

here at RMHC Maine. We also could not

be more grateful to our community for

COMPASSION despite adversity It was certainly a strange year for us at RMHC Maine.

Usually, our Houses are a hub of activity from our House volunteers and Guest Chefs to community members dropping off Wish List items and tab tops collectors!

We missed the laughter and energy of our busy Houses.

Although the numbers below look so drastically different, we were fortunate to have a small, but mighty group of individuals who stepped up to help us meet the needs of our guest families. For that, we are grateful.

With our volunteer programs paused, our community couldn’t prepared 315 meals through our Guest Chef program. In an average year, community members donate over 520 meals.
