Since 1983, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Maine has been a place of comfort, care and compassion for thousands of families on the medical journey of their children’s illness. In the past 30+ years, families have leaned on one another for support, volunteers channel their passion for helping people, staff members are our program champions, and donors have kept our doors open - all sustaining our core mission to identify, create and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of all children. Through our core programs, the Ronald McDonald Houses in Bangor and Portland provide families with an affordable home away from home to increase access to medical care for their children. In addition, families find a welcoming smile from a friendly volunteer, a home-cooked meal to enjoy after a long day at the hospital, a good night’s sleep in a caring environment, and a place where families support each other through a difficult time. The Ronald McDonald Family Room within Maine Medical Center’s Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital provides a place for families to find respite at the hospital in a comfortable home-like environment. Families are able to recharge with snacks, clean their laundry, refresh with a shower, and have access to the internet and phone to connect with their family. We believe when you change a child’s life, you change a family’s, which will have a far-reaching impact into the future. Together, with your generous support, we can continue to provide a special place to call home for families when they need us the most. After all, it takes many hearts to make a home.

About the SPIRIT OF THE GAME AWARD The Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Awards (East and West) honors two high school seniors who embody the spirit of the sport, exemplify sportsmanship, support and inspire their teammates and coaching staff, and show an ability to overcome obstacles & boundaries. The award honors 2009 recipients Joshua Titus of Auburn and Patrick Thibodeau of Cumberland. Thibodeau has Down syndrome, and Titus had overcome the challenges of autism.

Sunday, May 14 9am - 12pm Ronald McDonald House, Bangor Our first year hosting the Walk Run Roll 5K in celebration of Mother’s Day and the power of keeping mothers and fathers close to their seriously-ill children by providing a home away from home at our two Houses in Maine. With the Start and Finish Lines at the Bangor Ronald McDonald House, this family friendly event provides an opportunity for participants to meet past families, volunteers, and fellow supporters, and learn more about RMHC of Maine and our impact on families across Maine and beyond.
