Introduction Scope of Manual This instruction manual includes installation and maintenance information for the Type 2530H1 HART interchange multiplexer. Refer to separate manuals for additional information on other FIELDVUE products used with the multiplexer such as the Type DT4000 digital transducer, DVC5000 Series digital valve controllers, HF200 Series HART filters, and the ValveLink Series VL2030 software.

Only personnel qualified through training or experience should install, operate, and maintain the Type 2530H1 HART interchange multiplexer. If there are any questions concerning these instructions contact your Fisher Controls sales office or sales representative before proceeding.

Description The Type 2530H1 HART interchange multiplexer is a HART-based multiplexer that links installed HARTbased field devices to a centralized personal computer (PC). When used in conjunction with the ValveLink Type VL2030 software, the multiplexer provides the

communicate with up to 1024 HART-based devices on a single network. Most PCs can support two network connections to provide communication with up to 2048 field devices.

Figure 2 shows a typical HART communication system. The multiplexers communicate with a host computer over an RS485 network. The computer communicates to the multiplexer network through a serial port using RS232 signal levels. Therefore, a converter is required to convert the RS232 signal to an RS485 signal.

Typically, the multiplexer is installed in a system with HF200 Series HART filters. The purpose of the filter is

to effectively isolate the control system analog output from the HART communication signals and to keep changes in the analog output from interfering with the HART communication. The filter receives the 4 to 20 mA dc current signal from the control system and provides a filtered replica of this current to the field device. The filter does not modify the HART signals between the field device and the multiplexer.

The filter can mount directly on the control system output terminals, as shown, or on DIN rails in a cabinet near the control system. The field device then connects to the filter output terminals. A communication cable from the filter connects the HART signal to the

multiplexer. A connector on the communication cable plugs either directly into a multiplexer terminal block or into a Type HJ200 junction box.

The multiplexer also may be installed in a system that does not require HART filters as shown in figure 3.

Individual wire pairs connect the field devices directly to the multiplexer, via the field input terminal blocks on the multiplexer, or through a Type HJ200 junction box.

When the junction box is used, the HART signal from the filter or field device is connected to the junction box. A multi-wire interconnecting cable connects between a 37-pin D-shell connector on the junction box and one of the 37-pin D-shell connectors on the multiplexer. The junction box accepts up to 16 filter or field device connections.

Specifications Specifications for the Type 2530H1 HART interchange multiplexer are listed in table 1. Specifications for the Type HJ200 junction box are listed in Table 2. See the appropriate instruction manuals for specifications on the HF200 Series HART filters or the ValveLink Type VL2030 software.

Installation The HART interchange multiplexer is shown in figure 4. The field device input connections, power and RS485 connections are labeled for installation convenience. Each multiplexer is an addressable node on the RS485 network. A standard eight-position DIP switch is used for RS485 addressing and baud rate selection. Three LEDs are provided for monitoring the multiplexer status.

Mounting Multiplexer Mounting Mount the HART interchange multiplexer on a usersupplied DIN rail. Two types of DIN rails can be used: TS-35, symmetrical (Top Hat/T-Type) EN 50022 (DIN46277-3). See figure 5.

TS-32, asymmetrical (G-Type) EN50035 (DIN46277-1). See figure 6.

Install the HART interchange multiplexer near the field device marshaling panels or termination panels.

HART Filter Mounting Four types of filters are available. The Type HF210, HF220, and HF230 filters mount directly on the control

system output terminals. The Type HF240 filter mounts to a DIN rail. For additional information on filter installation, adjustment, and maintenance, refer to the HF200 Series HART Filters Instruction Manual.

The Type HF210 and HF220 filters mount on a control system output terminal strip that has a single row of screw terminals. A pair of 16 AWG solid wires extend from the input side of the filter. These wires connect to the terminal block of the control system output. The output side of the filter has either a screw-terminal style or a cage-clamp style terminal assembly. A 10-foot (3 meter) cable connects the filter to the multiplexer.

These filters are available with normal or reverse polarity orientation. Figure 7 shows a Type HF210 filter with normal polarity orientation, the input and output negative (–) connections are to the left of the positive (+) connections. The reverse polarity orientation has the connections reversed; the negative (–) connec-

tions are to the right of the positive (+) connections, rather than to the left as shown. The polarity is indicated on the filter. Be sure to use the filter with the correct polarity.

To mount the filters, provide some temporary means of process control, then take the loop out of service.

Remove the field wiring from the control system 4 to 20 mA current output terminals. Connect the field wiring to the filter output terminals, taking care to maintain correct polarity. Cut and strip the solid wires on the filter input to the correct length and connect these wires to the control system 4 to 20 mA output terminals, again taking care to maintain correct polarity. If the installation requires crossing wires to obtain the correct polarity, the wrong filter is being used.

Type HF230—Staggered Screw Terminal Filters The Type HF230 filters mount on a control system output terminal strip that has two tiers (staggered) of screw terminals. Two stamped metal fingers extend from the input side of the filter. These fingers connect to the terminal block on the control system output. The output side of the filter has a screw-terminal style terminal assembly. A 10-foot (3 meter) cable connects the filter to the multiplexer.

To mount the filters, provide some temporary means of process control, then take the loop out of service.

Remove the field wiring from the control system 4 to 20 mA current output terminals. Connect the field wiring to the filter output terminals, taking care to maintain correct polarity. Place the stamped metal fingers under the control system output terminals and fasten securely.

Type HF240 DIN Rail Mount Filter The Type HF240 filter, shown in figure 8, mounts on a type 32 or 35 DIN rail. The filter has three 2-terminal cage clamp style connectors for the filter input, filter

output, and HART communications port. No wires or connectors are provided in this design. The user provides field wiring and control system output wiring, the existing wiring can be used. The user also provides the wiring between the filter and the multiplexer.

To mount the filters, provide some temporary means of process control, then take the loop out of service.

Without disconnecting existing wiring, remove the DIN interconnect blocks from the rail. Install the filter on the DIN rail. Disconnect the wires from the control system output side of the interconnect blocks and connect them to the filter input connectors, taking care to maintain correct polarity. Disconnect the wires from the field side of the interconnect blocks and connect them to the filter output connectors, taking care to maintain correct polarity.

Shielded Wiring If using shielded wiring on both sides of the filter, the shield should connect across the filter. If the filter connects directly to the control system output and shielded loop wiring is being used, connect the shield to system ground on the instrument side of the filter.

Junction Box Mounting The Type HJ200 junction box is built on Augat SnapTrack mounting track. The mounting track can be mounted to a panel, or snapped to a DIN Rail using the available mounting foot. Mounting holes are available on the back of the mounting track for screws, rivets, or other fasteners. In addition, the mounting track could be fastened with Velcro or some other means.

In all cases, except the DIN-foot, remove the printed wiring board from the mounting track before fastening the mounting track. Remove the printed wiring board by applying pressure to the walls of the mounting track, as shown in figure 9. After the mounting track is mounted, re-install the printed wiring board by pressing it into the mounting track until it snaps in place.

1. Connect the A and B terminals of each multiplexer on the RS485 network to the A and B terminal of the next unit (i.e., A to A and B to B).

2. Place a 100-ohm resistor between the A and B terminals on the last multiplexer in the arrangement.

3. Connect the shield of the RS485 twisted pair wire to the 0V terminal on the multiplexer RS485 connector to reduce interference with the RS485 line.

Connecting Multiplexer Power CAUTION

Connecting Multiplexers to the RS232-to-RS485 Converter CAUTION Do not connect 24 volt dc power to the RS485 connection. Power applied to the RS485 connection can damage the RS485 circuitry and cause HART interchange multiplexer failure.

When applying power to the multiplexer, do not exceed 36 volt dc. Exceeding 36 volt dc will blow the fuse. Although the fuse automatically resets, constant exposure to high voltages may damage the unit.

The RS485 connector is a 3-pin removable terminal block located just above the power connector. The three RS485 connections are labeled as shown in figures 4 and 10.

The multiplexer requires 24 volt dc at 300 mA. Connect the power supply using the 2-terminal removable terminal block that is plugged into the multiplexer power connector. See figures 4 and 10 for the power connector location. The power connector is polarized so that it cannot be inserted incorrectly. The polarity of the terminal block is marked on the multiplexer.

Note

Connect the first multiplexer to the RS232-to-RS485 converter. Refer to figure 11.

To connect the metalwork of the multiplexer to chassis ground, use either of the studs provided on the unit.

See figure 10.

The first HART interchange multiplexer A and B terminals must be correctly connected to the RS232-to-RS485 converter to enable the host PC to communicate with all of the multiplexers on the network.

Note

1. Connect terminal A of the first multiplexer to terminal G (DATA–) of the converter RS485 OUT connector.

The HART interchange multiplexer contains a DC-to-DC converter so ground loop problems will not occur.

2. Connect terminal B of the first multiplexer to terminal Y (DATA+) of the converter RS485 OUT connector.

No external power is required for the filters, they draw their power from the 4 to 20 mA loop current.

Converter DIP Switches

Connecting Multiple HART Interchange Multiplexers

Both the RS232-to-RS485 Converter and the HART interchange multiplexer have user selectable DIP switches. As shown in figure 12, the converter has three sets of switches on the back panel.

Figure 11 shows the connection between multiplexers.

To connect multiple HART interchange multiplexers:

DATA+ line and +5 Vdc. Placing the switch labeled –1K in the up position connects a 1k ohm pull-down resistor between the DATA– line and ground. Placing the switch labeled 220 in the up position terminates the RS485 input or output with a 220 ohm resistor.

To set the switches, use a pointed object to push the switch to the desired position.

The set of ten switches near the center of the back panel determine the converter baud rate.

Setting the Converter RS485 Termination and Biasing

The set of three switches near the RS485 OUT connector determine the termination and biasing of the RS485 output.

When the converter is used as an RS232-to-RS485 converter, set the three switches adjacent to the RS485 IN connector as follows: set the switches labeled +1K and –1K to the up position and the switch labeled 220 to the down position. When using the unit as a repeater place all three switches in the up position.

For the set of three switches adjacent to the RS485 connectors, when in the up position the switch labeled 1K places a 1k ohm pull-up resistor between the

Setting the Converter RS485 Baud Rate The set of ten switches between the RS232 connector and the RS485 OUT connector determine the converter baud rate. To set the converter for a baud rate of 38.4K baud (the recommended baud rate) set the switch labeled 38.4K to the up position. Set all other switches in the set of ten to the down position. To select another baud rate, set the switch labeled with the desired baud rate to the up position and set all other switches in the set of ten to the down position.

Multiplexer DIP Switches The HART interchange multiplexer has eight dip switch settings. The eight switches are numbered and labeled on the face of the unit as follows: Switches 1 through 5 set the network address.

Switches 6 and 7 set the baud rate.

Switch 8 puts the multiplexer into the test mode.

This switch should be OFF.

After changing the switch positions, power to the multiplexer must be removed and reapplied before the change will become effective.

Use switches one through five to set network addresses. There are a total of 32 possible addresses (0 through 31) for assignment to the multiplexer.

Each multiplexer in an RS485 network must have a different address. When setting an address: 1. Remove power from the multiplexer.

2. Set the addresses. Table 3 shows the switch settings for each of the 32 possible addresses.

After changing the switch positions, power to the multiplexer must be removed and reapplied before the change will become effective.

Use switches six and seven to set the multiplexer baud rate. A baud rate of 38.4K baud is recommended for optimum data refresh rates. The switch settings required to obtain the various baud rates are shown in table 4.

RS232-to-RS485 converter and the ValveLink software are set to the same baud rates to assure proper network operation.

Connecting Field Devices to the Multiplexer Three methods are available for connecting field devices to the multiplexer. The eight connectors on the multiplexer accept terminal blocks supplied with the multiplexer for individual wire pairs from the field devices or accept the plugs provided with the HF200 Series filters. The 37-pin female D-shell connectors accept a multi-wire interconnecting cable from a Type HJ200 junction box.

To connect the field devices to the HART interchange multiplexer use either: One pair of wires from each field device to the multiplexer, or One pair of wires from each HART filter to the multiplexer, or One pair of wires from each field device or HART filter to a Type HJ200 junction box; then, connect the interconnecting cable between the junction box and the multiplexer.

CAUTION To avoid HART communication failure, do not use more than one of the above methods to connect a single field device to the same multiplexer.

Connecting HART Filters Directly to the Multiplexer For the Type HF210, HF220, and HF230 filters, one pair of 22 AWG wires, 10 feet (3.05 meters) long and terminated with a 2-conductor plug (Weidmuller part number 152646 or equivalent) extends from the output side of each filter. These wires connect to the multiplexer, either directly or through the Type HJ200 HART junction box. The Type HF240 DIN-rail mount filter has a terminal block to allow for user installed wiring. For more information on installing, adjusting, and maintaining the HF200 Series HART filters, refer to the HF200 Series HART Filters Instruction Manual.

1. Mount the filters and make the field wiring connections as described under mounting in the Installation section of this manual.

2. To connect the filters to the multiplexer: a. For Type HF210, HF220, and HF230 filters—Remove one or more terminal blocks with cage-clamp contacts, shown in figure 14, from the multiplexer. Insert the plug on the filter communication cable into the connector on the multiplexer.

The individual channel connections are marked on the multiplexer case. The communication cable from the filter can be connected to any channel. b. For Type HF240 filters, connect a wire pair from the communications terminal block on the fil-

The convention for field device input polarity is + left, – right, for each input; however, the multiplexer is insensitive to polarity.

3. Route individual wiring along other signal wiring (analog or digital, but no power) paths between the control system and the multiplexer to ensure HART signal integrity.

Connecting HART Filters to the Multiplexer Using the Type HJ200 Junction Box The two 37-pin female D-shell connectors on the multiplexer permit connecting the multiplexer to the HF200 Series HART filters through a Type HJ200 HART junction box. A multi-wire cable connects the multiplexer to the junction box. Figure 15 shows filter connections to a Type HJ200 HART junction box.

1. Mount the junction box as described in the Installation section.

2. The junction box printed wiring board has two connectors (J1 and J2) for connecting the filter HART communication cable as illustrated in Figure 16. The silk screen on the printed wiring board indicates two channel numbers for each filter connection. Channel numbers 1 through 16 designate the channel number if the interconnecting cable between the junction box and the multiplexer is connected to the 37-pin connector on the multiplexer labeled LOOPS 1-16. Channel numbers 17 through 32 designate the channel number

if the interconnecting cable between the junction box and the multiplexer is connected to the 37-pin connector on the multiplexer labeled LOOPS 17-32. Connect the filters to the junction box as follows: a. For Type HF210, HF220, and HF230 filters— Insert the plug on the filter communication cable into the connector on the junction box. The communication cable can be connected to any channel. b. For Type HF240 filters—Remove one or more of the terminal blocks, shown in figure 14, from the multiplexer inputs and plug them into the connectors on the junction box. Connect a wire pair from the HART communications terminal block on the filter to an adjacent pair of cage-clamp contacts, corresponding to an input channel, on the junction box terminal block. The wire pair from the filter can be connected to any channel.

3. Connect the interconnecting cable between the 37-pin D-shell connector (P1) on the junction box and one of the 37-pin D-shell connectors on the multiplexer.

Connecting Field Devices Directly to the Multiplexer (without HART Filters) 1. Use the removable cage-clamp contact terminal blocks, shown in figure 14, to wire individual field device inputs to the multiplexer. The individual channel connections are marked on the multiplexer case (i.e., 1, 2, 3,...32).

Connecting Field Devices to the Multiplexer Using the Type HJ200 Junction Box (without HART Filters) 1. Remove one or more cage-clamp contact terminal blocks, shown in figure 14, from the multiplexer and plug them into the receptacles on the junction box.

Connecting a HART Communicator Using the Type HJ200 Junction Box The Type HJ200 HART junction box can serve as a convenient connection point for communicating with a field device with the handheld HART communicator. To use the junction box as a connection point for a HART communicator: 1. Mount the junction box as described in the Installation section.

2. Connect the filters or field devices to the multiplexer input terminals (shown in figure 14) as described in the appropriate procedure in this manual.

3. Connect the interconnecting cable between the 37-pin D-shell connector (P1) on the junction box and one of the 37-pin D-shell connectors on the multiplexer.

If the filters or field devices are connected to channels 1 to 16 on the multiplexer, connect the interconnecting cable to the multiplexer connector labeled LOOPS 1-16. If the filters or field devices are connected to channels 17 to 32 on the multiplexer, connect the interconnecting cable to the multiplexer connector labeled LOOPS 17-32.

4. Terminate the cable from the HART communicator with a 2-conductor plug (such as a Weidmuller part number 152646 or equivalent) that fits the receptacles on the junction box. To communicate with a field device, plug the HART communicator into the appropriate channel on the junction box.

System Startup Verifying Connections WARNING To avoid personal injury or property damage from an uncontrolled process, provide some temporary means of process control before taking the loop out of service.

1. Be sure the process is shut down, or there is some temporary means of control before making connections to the field termination panel or Field Termination Assembly.

2. Check to see that HART interchange multiplexer connections, HART filter connections, and field termination connections are secure.

CAUTION The HART interchange multiplexer will not function properly and may exhibit erratic LED illumination if insufficient power is available.

3. Check to see that each HART interchange multiplexer is connected to a power source capable of providing 24 volts dc at 300 mA. 4. Check the RS485 connections to be sure connections are secure and properly connected to the RS232-to-RS485 converter.

5. Apply power to the HART interchange multiplexers.

Type 2530H1 Verifying the Network Baud Rate Note After changing the switch positions on the multiplexer or RS232-to-RS485 converter, power to the device must be removed and reapplied before the change will become effective.

The HART interchange multiplexers, RS232-to-RS485 converter, and the ValveLink software all must communicate at the same rate for the network to function properly. Setting the baud rate at 38.4K baud provides the maximum data update rate.

The RS232-to-RS485 converter and HART interchange multiplexer are preset for a baud rate of 19.2k baud. To select a 38.4k baud rate or to verify the switch settings, refer to the appropriate switch setting paragraph in the Installation section of this manual.

To verify the baud rate of the ValveLink software: 1. Start up the software by double clicking on the ValveLink icon.

2. At the logon display, enter a username and password for a user that has access to preferences.

3. From the menu bar, select Setup. Select Preferences from the menu.

4. If the Comm Ports page is not displayed, click on the Comm Ports tab to display the page.

5. Select the one or two comm ports that have the converters and multiplexers connected to them by placing an X in the check box. Place an X in a check box by clicking on the check box. To remove an X in a check box, click on the check box to turn the X off.

6. Select either 9600 baud, 19.2k baud or 38.4k baud by clicking on the appropriate option button. The 38.4K baud selection is recommended.

7. Click on the Save button to save all selections. To make these selections effective, exit the ValveLink software and restart the application.

Verifying the HART Interchange Multiplexer Addresses Note After changing the multiplexer switch positions, power to the multiplexer must be removed and reapplied before the change will become effective.

There are 32 available addresses for the HART interchange multiplexer, 0 through 31. Be sure no two mul-

tiplexers have the same address. To verify the multiplexer addresses: 1. Remove power from the multiplexer.

2. Verify the addresses by comparing the settings of switches 1 through 5 with the settings listed in table 3.

Make any necessary changes to the switch settings.

3. Apply power to the multiplexer.

Verifying the RS485 Network The RS485 network must be less than 3000 feet (914.4 m) if one RS232-to-RS485 converter is used. If the network is greater than 3000 feet (914.4 m), a second converter can be used as a repeater. Refer to the converter manual for information on using the converter as a repeater.

Be sure a 100 ohm resistor is connected across the A and B terminals of the last multiplexer in the network.

Reading the Converter LED Indicators The RS232-to-RS485 converter has three LEDs on the front panel as shown in figure 17. In normal operation the LED configuration is as follows: The LED labeled POWER is normally on indicating adequate power supply voltage is applied to the converter.

The LED labeled TRANSMIT illuminates as data is transmitted from the host computer onto the RS485 network. This LED will vary in intensity as the computer communicates over the network.

The LED labeled FAULT illuminates if excessive current is being drawn from the internal +24 Vdc, 1 Amp power supply. This LED should normally be off.

Reading the Multiplexer LED Indicators The HART interchange multiplexer has three LEDs as shown in figure 18. In normal operation the LED configuration is as follows:

The green RUN LED flashes during initialization after power application or while the host computer is scanning the multiplexer.

The red FAULT LED lights momentarily during initialization and when a fault is detected.

After power application and on command from the host computer, the HART interchange multiplexer performs a self-test. After the test is complete, the configuration of the lights will indicate if a fault exists: W6485/IL

If all LEDs flash in sequence, the HART interchange multiplexer is in test mode. To remove the unit from test mode: c. Move DIP switch eight to the off position. d. Remove power from the multiplexer. e. Re-apply power to the multiplexer All three LEDs flashing together indicate a serious fault. Return the unit for service.

All three LEDs lit continuously indicates a serious fault. Return the unit for service.
