Amenity-rich active-adult communities feature golf and so much more ! Story by PAULA HUBBS COHEN

RICK D’ELIA

ickleball — that game with the funny name — is one of the most popular sports at activeadult communities these days. For example, Robson Ranch Arizona (in the Casa Grande area) has 16 courts and the Robson community of PebbleCreek in Goodyear has 20 courts, while ViewPoint RV and Golf Resort in Mesa has five courts. Indeed, you can find a plethora of pickleball courts at pretty much every activeadult community in the state. According to the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), in 1965, Joel Pritchard, a congressman from Washington state, and Bill Bell, a local businessman, were relaxing at Pritchard’s home near Seattle and decided to improvise an all-ages game on an old badminton court using ping-pong paddles and a perforated plastic ball. Voilà — fastforward a few decades and the sport of pickleball has exploded in popularity, particularly in active-adult communities in the “Sun Belt”. The game combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, and can be played as singles or doubles, indoors or outdoors. There are now nearly 5,500 locations on the USAPA’s ‘Places to Play’ map. The sport continues to grow worldwide with national governing bodies in the U.S. as well as in Canada, Spain, France, England, Holland and India.

Allen and Mary Kindt are delighted with their choice to live in their golf community, Robson Ranch Arizona in Eloy, near Casa Grande. Playing frequently and driving their own cart to the course adds to the appeal.

ach Robson Resort Community has a semi-private golf course. At Robson Ranch Arizona, the course features 18 holes of championship golf with rolling fairways and spectacular views, said Steve Soriano, executive vice president and CFO of Robson Resort Communities.

“The golf club also has a restaurant, practice facility, putting green and golf shop. “We invite the public to play the course and grab a bite to eat at the clubhouse restaurant,” he said. “We hope they’ll love it so much, they’ll want to become a Robson homeowner!”

A

menity-rich. That’s definitely the watchword of today’s active-adult communities. And boy, do Arizona’s lifestyle builders and developers deliver on that promise

Hitting the links — and the courts, pools, fitness centers and more…

From lush tree-lined courses to sensational Sonoran fairways, the promise of year-round golf is a popular draw in many age-qualified communities today. But while you’ll find gorgeous golf courses in active-adult communities across the Valley, it’s not all about golf. For example, many 55+ communities will most likely also feature pickleball courts, tennis courts, state-of-the-art fitness centers and resort-style pools and spas.

Both golfers and non-golfers love living in a golf community

To be sure, the centuries-old sport of golf is a leading lure in a number of neighborhoods. Indeed, Mary and Allen Kindt, residents of Robson Ranch Arizona, are exactly the type of age-qualified homebuyers who are drawn to golf communities. “We’re originally from Blaine, Minnesota,” Mary said. “We’ve lived at Robson Ranch for about a year now and purchased our home here because of our love for golf, the wonderful course and all the amenities that go along with living

in a country club atmosphere.” But it’s not just golfers who enjoy the ambience of living in a golf community. According to Steve Soriano, executive vice president and CFO of Robson Resort Communities, the 55+ demographic’s homebuyers are drawn to Robson Resort Communities, such as Robson Ranch Arizona in the Casa Grande area and PebbleCreek in Goodyear, because of the extensive lifestyle amenities provided in the communities. “Golf is just one of the many features offered at a Robson Resort Community; we also include luxurious clubhouses, resort-style pools, fitness centers, restaurants, pickleball, tennis complexes and countless classes and clubs,” Soriano said. “About a third of our buyers enjoy the GOLF, continued on page 2

“A ‘stay and play’ is the best way to get a feel for the community.”
