ome estates are so incredibly impressive, they leave you almost speechless. That’s certainly the case with this spectacular home nestled in the exclusive high Sonoran desert community of Silverleaf.

Built by Paragon Custom Homes with architectural design by AJ Design Studio, this big, bold North Scottsdale beauty boasts a wealth of first-class features including walnut-stained cabinetry, English Oak flooring with reclaimed Chicago brick

inlays, intimate Juliet balconies and a stateof-the-art Creston smart-home automation control system for audio/video, lighting, pool and thermostats. Tucked on 1.73 acres in Silverleaf ’s scenic saguaro-studded Upper Canyon, the estate is surrounded by a daytime panorama of dramatic McDowell Mountain views, while at night, the jetblack skies feature a far-off shimmer of Valley-wide glittering city lights. Seamless alfresco living Ideal for indoor/outdoor living and entertaining, the floor plan is designed to seamlessly blur the line between the interior and exterior gathering spaces — and boy, does it deliver on that promise. Indeed, the warm and welcoming family room has two pocket doors, one of which opens to a courtyard that leads to the guest casita. “This tranquil courtyard includes a fountain, a barbecue island and a staircase ascending to the view-deck,” said Mike Domer, the home’s listing agent. “The other door reveals an outdoor family room with

a fireplace and a bar opening to the pool as well as a large covered cabana equipped with its own bath, fireplace and barbecue.” Grand entertainer’s dream For more formal entertaining, the living and dining rooms are dressed with a striking beamed ceiling motif and wall-towall French doors. Just outside is a long meditation pool with deck-jets spewing arcs of streaming water to inspire your imagination. “Your guests are sure to marvel at the serene alfresco scene just beyond,” Domer said. “This luxuriant tableau is highlighted by immaculate landscaping, an elegant glass-tiled infinityedge pool and a gently cascading waterfall — and it’s all backdropped by those amazing mountain and city lights views.” Sophisticated culinary treasure A treasure for even the most discerning chef, the sophisticated kitchen sparkles with a distinctive décor and two serving/ Continued on page 2

Luxury drive with room to grow Market for high-end SUVs is growing By Debra Gelbart

uxury sport-utility vehicles, whether large or compact, are growing in popularity. The terms SUV and CUV are sometimes used interchangeably, but the vehicles they represent are different. The distinction is straightforward: A crossover utility vehicle is based on a car’s platform, while an SUV sits on a truck chassis. But the term “compact SUV” used in the automotive industry may actually refer to a CUV in some instances. As it says on the Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale’s blog, “vehicles like the GLA and the GLE could also fit into (the CUV) category, depending on who is talking.”

Although various online outlets that track sales numbers—including carsalesbase.com autoweek.com and cnbc.com—differ in the figures they report, all have indicated significant growth in the luxury SUV and CUV sectors. In the third quarter of 2017, sales of the Mercedes-Benz GLA, a compact SUV, jumped by 45 percent compared to the first two quarters, according to carsalesbase.com. Porsche’s compact SUV Macan model remains the best-selling Porsche model in the U.S. Sales of this model rose 10.8 percent last year over 2016. Why lux SUVs are so popular “Today’s active lifestyles demand vehicles that have tremendous utility, versatility and functionality,” said Richard Cvijanovich, owner, Porsche Chandler. “SUVs and crossovers provide expansive vehicle cargo space, ease of loading and unloading, and go-anywhere functionality that clients need to support their lifestyles.”

“Owning an SUV or CUV does put your name on a staple of the high life,” said Adam Cox, general sales manager for Sanderson Lincoln in north Phoenix. “With luxury brands, owners are able to show their appreciation for the finer things in life. If you’re dropping the kids off at school or going on that much-awaited vacation, cruising in luxury certainly has its benefits.” “Luxury SUVs and CUVs have the creature comforts not found in non-luxury models,” Cvijanovich said. “Examples are more premium interiors, higher-end audio and telematics, an expansive list of options to make a vehicle more personalized and much quieter interior cabins and lower road and wind noise, just to mention a few.” Continued on page 2
