The PHOENIX
GOODYEAR AIRPORT celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2015. The airport, which originally was the Litchfield Naval Air Base, played a major role in national security during World War II. During World Wars I and II, Goodyear Aircraft manufactured more than three million pounds of aircraft frames. The airport is now a growing hub for corporate aviation and is well known for the excellent service provided by Lux Air Jet Centers, the airport's Fixed Base Operator.

WHAT TO DO THE BIBLE MUSEUM A museum of reverence in Goodyear
IN AND AROUND GOODYEAR Estrella Mountain Regional Park comprises almost 20,000 acres. The park contains eight major mixed use trails (hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding) of more than 33 miles, a 9.5 mile competitive track, campgrounds, two baseball fields and a large horse staging area. The park also boasts the county’s only grassy picnic area, a golf course and a professional level rodeo arena. Other attractions within a 20 minute drive of Goodyear are Phoenix Center for the Arts, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Zoo, Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium and sports teams including Arizona Cardinals football and Arizona Coyotes hockey. | |6 | 6
A hidden gem remains located inside a local hotel in the City of Goodyear that is open 24 hours a day: The Goodyear Bible Museum. Located inside an office at the Hampton Inn and Suites (2000 North Litchfield Road), the Bible Museum is home to a collection of biblical artifacts that date back as far as 2,100 years. Among the gems of the collection — a page from a Gutenberg Bible and original copies of the King James Version Bible from 1611.
The museum was started more than 25 years ago when Jonathan Byrd began studying the role Christianity played for the nation’s founding fathers. Byrd relocated to Phoenix in the late 1990s and built several hotels throughout the Valley. Byrd designated a room for the Hampton Inn for the collection of historically significant bibles he mainly purchased at auctions. The collection now is owned by historian Craig Lampe, a business partner of Byrd.

CROWN JEWEL OF THE CITY, COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE Goodyear Ballpark is gaining momentum as a community center that goes beyond hosting the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds for Spring Training each year. A $120 million facility that opened for the 2009 Spring Training season, the ballpark is located in the center of the city just two miles south of Interstate 10. Goodyear Ballpark is only minutes away from the city’s retail corridor that provides some of the best shopping, dining and lodging in the Valley. In the last year, Goodyear Ballpark hosted more than 80 events outside of Spring Training - including the City of Goodyear’s annual 4th of
July celebration, Fall Festival, Home Plate for the Holidays, movie nights, weddings, graduations, regional and national baseball tournaments and a variety of others. Like a fine wine, Goodyear Ballpark is getting better with age.

SPRING TRAINING THE CACTUS LEAGUE EXPERIENCE Annually, nearly 2 million fans attend Spring Training during the month of March to see one or more of Major League Baseball’s 15 teams prepare for regular season baseball. Many take a break from cold winter confines in northern parts of the country and head to the Valley of the Sun to enjoy the warm, sunny weather. Spring Training gives fans a chance to see players up close — whether it is during the morning workouts at the team complex or pregame at the ballpark. The fan experience during Spring Training is
more intimate than regular season primarily due to the much smaller venues. Goodyear Ballpark, a family-friendly venue, boasts the largest Kids Zone in the Cactus League, which includes inflatable baseball activities and a kid-sized wiffle ball field. WHERE TO PLAY GOODYEAR OFFERS EXEMPLARY RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES One way to enjoy the beautiful weather Arizona has to offer is by visiting one of the many Goodyear parks. Goodyear’s Parks & Recreation Department offers an abundance of park and recreational facilities including tennis courts, a public swimming pool, four dog parks and a BMX park. Goodyear Community Park features a skate park, splash pad (open mid-April through mid-October), ramadas and sports fields/courts. Goodyear’s newest addition is an award-winsning one: the Pump Track at Foothills Community Park. The Pump Track, which is the only one in the West Valley, is a looping trail system of dirt berms and “rollers” (smooth dirt mounds for pumping) designed for bicycling without the rider pedaling. The name “pump track” comes from the pumping motion used by the rider's upper and lower body as they ride around the track.
