2016 TOYOTA Camry Despite being one of the pack leaders in the mid-size sedan category for years, Toyota isn’t sitting still with the Camry. For the 2015 model year Toyota sharpened the Camry’s claws in one of the brand’s more dramatic adjustments. The most obvious change was the dramatically different front end where a new spindle-style grille/air intake had been installed. There are better gauges, a reshaped control panel and recovered seats with nicerquality fabrics. One neat feature is an available wireless charging system located in a bin ahead of the shifter that will energize your smart phone or similar electronic device without having to plug it in.

2016 TOYOTA RAV4 Four years into its fourth generation and Toyota is making sure the compact RAV4 brings more than just perceived reliability to the table. To do this, its design is rather impressive with all sorts of swoops and curves and an angrylooking nose. The RAV4 is similarly sized to the old third-gen model, but Toyota says there is more cargo room. The RAV4 is awash with “soft-touch” materials and silver trim bits, which is pretty standard for this class.

2016 NISSAN Altima A significant visual makeover for Nissan’s bread-and-butter sedan should get buyers’ attention; new SR added to the existing trim levels.

The grille is bolder than before, although not quite to the same degree as the latest Murano and Maxima.

The headlights, hood and front fenders are also new as are the trunk lid and taillights. The revised body structure has been strengthened around the roof pillars and additional sound-deadening measures result, says Nissan, in a quieter cabin.

2016 NISSAN Maxima The latest “Max” covers a broad spectrum, from well-equipped luxury mount, to agile sport sedan capable of snaking around curves and tackling straight-aways at a reasonably rapid pace.

Visually, the car displays a level of aggressiveness that makes most other automakers’ luxury sedans appear staid by comparison.

The flashy chrome grille, curvaceous body panels and sweeping rear end signal that this Nissan loves flaunting its stuff. Inside, the controls are straightforward, the “Zero Gravity” front chairs are supportive and the pushbutton starter has migrated to the console right next to the shifter.

2016 TOYOTA Prius

The new model will set forth upon the land with completely redesigned -- and quite attractive -sheetmetal to give the car a more premium visage.

Dimensionally, the new Prius is about 2.4 inches longer, 0.6 inches wider and 0.8 inches lower than the previous version.

While technical details are scarce as of this writing, Toyota claims that the car will achieve a 10 percent improvement in combined city/highway fuel economy, which means the numbers would be about 55 mpg, up from 50.

2016 TOYOTA Tacoma

The Tacoma remains the automaker’s topselling pickup, out-doing the full size Tundra by a fair margin. The 2016 redesign displays a bolder hexagonal grille and the fenders show more flair.

The restyled interior environment benefits from a sound-absorbing headliner, a “floor silencer pad,” thicker door seals and multi-layer acoustic windshield. Without the regular-cab Tacoma in the lineup the extended Access Cab and four-door Double Cab are your only choices.

2016 NISSAN Titan XD

• Base price: $45,000 • Type: Four-door full-size pickup • Base engine (hp): 5.0-liter DOHC V8, turbodiesel (310) • Layout: Front-engine, rear- /four-wheel-drive

• Transmission: Six-speed automatic • MPG (city/highway): 17/26 • Weight (lb.): 4,650

It took a while, 12 years to be exact, but Nissan has finally come out with a second-generation Tennessee-built Titan pickup that will duke it out with the best of the best. The Titan’s stumppulling 550 pound-feet of torque is paired with a heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission.

Thus equipped, the Titan offers up to 2,000 pounds of payload capacity and 12,000 pounds maximum towing.

2016 PORSCHE Cayenne

Not by a long shot will you find this much variety in any other automaker’s sport utility lineup. Each of the Cayenne’s seven distinct models comes with its own power system. Every Cayenne retains its superb off-road ability, assisted by a standard ride-height control, locking differentials and electronic safety systems, including hill-descent control and hillhold to keep you in control on steep grades. As with any Porsche, the assortment of individual options is astounding, with everything from carbon-ceramic brakes to a high-end Burmesterbrand audio system.
