NEXT STOP: EARLY 20TH CENTURY MINING IN THE WILD WEST When jaunting around southern Arizona, Bisbee is a must on the check-itout list. Just about 90 miles southeast of Tucson, you’ll find incredible late 1880s and early 1900s historic marvels. Among them include one of the most productive copper mines of the 20th century and Brewery Gulch, once considered to be one of the hottest places between El Paso and San Francisco.

Don’t forget to stop in at Screaming Banshee Pizza for a bite. Bisbee also has more than 20 hotels, bed & breakfasts, and R.V. Parks to stay the night.

NEXT STOP: ALL ANGLES OF THE GRAND CANYON

Looking for the perfect road trip? A little more than three hours west of Flagstaff, Hualapai brings you up close and personal with the Grand Canyon with unique views by land, water, and sky. Spend a day rafting the Colorado River, followed by a helicopter ride back up to the canyon rim, and high above it all on the Skywalk. FLAGSTAFF – 144 MILES FROM PHOENIX NEXT STOP: SNOW-PACKED FUN

Make it a snow day and hit the road for Flagstaff. With an average of more than 100 inches of snowfall every year, Flagstaff and Arizona Snowbowl are home to some of the best learning terrain for skiing. There’s also the Flagstaff Nordic Center with more than 25 miles of groomed trails for cross-country skiing. You can also enjoy a stay along the trail in your own yurt.

NEXT STOP: TREASURE HUNTING

An hour directly east of Phoenix and off the beaten path is exactly why you’ll come to love the small towns of Globe and Miami.

Many years ago, treasures were found in the mining town of Miami. Today, at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum you can see an array of artifacts, photography, and memorabilia depicting the area’s early mining years. You can also find find treasures find of your own in the area’s extensive antique shops like the Pickle Barrel. Visitors of this popular trading post will fi nd 8,000 sq. ft. of incredible goods, ranging from antiques and collectibles to American Indian art. You just can’t go wrong with any of the local, family-owned restaurants either. The same can also be said if you enjoy unique places to stay the night, like the Noftsger Hill Inn— an old renovated elementary school where you can leave comments on the chalkboard.

NEXT STOP: OUTDOOR JOURNEYS NEAR LAKE POWELL Just south of the Utah boarder and on the doorstep of Lake Powell, you can get a view of Page in a way most don’t know about—on the Rim Trail. The 11-mile trail encircles the mesa of Page and provides gorgeous views from every angle. You’ll see why the way to Page is one of the roads best traveled for outdoor fun, from kayaking to skydiving. For a unique place to eat, try Latitude 37 or Ja’Di’To’oh, which are both floating restaurants. You can even catch some shuteye on a houseboat if you choose.

Just about an hour detour northwest of Phoenix, lies Wickenburg the kind of town Wickenbu rg you picture for good country living and western hospitality. It’s also Arizona’s fourth oldest town. There’s a lot going on in this town, from rodeos and horseback riding to four-wheel-drive tours and more than 400 works of Western art, including work by Frederick Remington and Charles Russell. NEXT STOP: FUN ON THE COLORADO RIVER

Known by the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s sunniest spot, Yuma sits on the open road west of Phoenix along the ArizonaCalifornia border. But more importantly, it sits directly on the Colorado River shoreline, which makes it a prime spot for boating, kayaking, fishing, and even narrated guided tours. While there, an interesting stop is the Old West’s legendary Yuma Territorial Prison, which was part of the movie 3:10 to Yuma. For a great meal, don’t miss the family recipes at Garden Café. Built in 1938 and still owned and run by the same family, Coronado Motor Hotel is a great stop for overnight stays.
