This year’s nine-day event — which will astonish buyers, sellers and automobile voyeurs alike with its treasure trove of exceptional vehicles — features more than 1,700 collectible vehicles, including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and four-time Grammy winner Steven Tyler’s personal 2012 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, an extremely rare supercar that is the fifth of only 12 Hennessey Venom GTs ever created and first of the Spyder convertibles. In March 2016, one of the Venom convertibles recorded a top speed of 265.6 mph, making it the world’s fastest convertible sports car. The Spyder will cross the auction block at No Reserve, with 100 percent of the hammer price benefiting Janie’s Fund, an initiative created in partnership with Tyler and Youth Villages to bring hope and healing for many of the country’s vulnerable girls who have suffered the trauma of abuse and neglect. Another auction highlight — and one of the most anticipated vehicles on the docket — will be the 1960 Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle (CERV) 1 used by Zora Arkus-Duntov (known as the “Father of the Corvette”) in his advancements of the Chevrolet Corvette in the 1960s. STEVEN TYLER'S HENNESSEY VENOM GT HAS SOME MAJOR BITE READY TO STRIKE AT THE SCOTTSDALE AUCTION FOR CHARITY

arrett-Jackson is excited to welcome the legendary Steven Tyler and his incredible 2012 Hennessey Venom GT to the 2017 Scottsdale Auction. The back story on the Venom actually dates back to 2007, when the team from the Texasbased Hennessey Performance brought the company’s Venom 1000 Twin Turbo Viper to a “shootout” between some of the world’s fastest supercars and ended up posting the quickest time of the day by running 0 to 200 mph in an astonishing 20.3 seconds. But Hennessey Performance didn’t want to stop there. They tossed around the idea of putting the Venom 1000 Twin Turbo engine in the back of a Lotus Exige, and the Hennessey Venom GT concept was born, making its first appearance at Monterey in 2011. It caught the attention of someone who knows what it’s like to live life in the fast lane: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Tyler, front-man of the legendary rock band Aerosmith. While in the Houston area filming a local audition for “American Idol,” Tyler asked Hennessey if he could see and drive a Venom GT. He was hooked, and asked if he could order a convertible version. Hennessey delivered Tyler’s Venom GT Spyder – their first convertible – a few months later. Tyler’s rare supercar is the fifth of only 12 Hennessey Venom GTs ever created. In March 2016, it recorded a top speed of 265.6 mph, making it the world’s fastest convertible sports car. It will cross the auction block at No Reserve, with 100 percent of the hammer price benefiting a very special charity known as Janie’s Fund. When Tyler’s song “Janie’s Got a Gun” – which touched on the theme of child abuse – was released in 1989, he was overwhelmed and inspired by the thousands of letters he received from his fans – fans who had experienced neglect and abuse themselves. It prompted him to launch Janie’s Fund – a program to support girls who have been abused and neglected, giving them the resources they need to heal and, as Tyler puts it, “the tools they need to get on in this crazy world that we’ve got.” A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Steven Tyler will be on the Barrett-Jackson auction block the evening of Friday, January 20, as his one-of-a-kind supercar is auctioned for the cause so close to his heart.

n the June 1971 issue of Car Craft magazine, editor Terry Cook wrote, “A funny car is a projectile that’s fired from its own cannon.” Those words perfectly capture the brutal, violent and astonishing nature of that uniquely American acceleration device, the Top Fuel Funny Car, a veritable plastic-bodied rocket sled on wheels. The fact that modern funny cars have broken the four-second zone (prior to the NHRA decision to reduce the course from 1,320 to 1,000 feet) takes nothing away from midsix-second machines like International Motorsports Hall of Famer Don Prudhomme’s 1972 Plymouth Barracuda Mattel Hot Wheels "Snake II" Funny Car (Lot #1345, below). base length for improved high-speed stability, lightweight spun-aluminum Cragar Super Trik wheels, a Lenco 2-speed transmission with reverser and Alpine White exterior paint set it apart from Snake I (which has also been restored). The exterior graphics appear as they did in 1972, when Snake dominated the match race circuit and competed on the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA) tour,

winning several events and setting several performance records. In 1973, this car competed at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, where it set the national elapsedtime record in the quarter-mile at 6.35 seconds. Prudhomme also drove the “Snake II” to its top speed of 226 mph. Also presented is the iron-block, iron-head 426 HEMI with its 6-71 supercharger, magneto ignition and 3-port Enderle fuel injection “hat.” The chassis is SFI certified (#C30255). Unlike certain showpieces that aren’t functional, Snake II starts, runs and moves under its own power. It has been 51 years since the flip-top funny car arrived on the drag racing scene. And while many “floppers” have been widely recognized, the Snake (and Mongoose) machines stand apart. Why not add the Snake II HEMI ’Cuda to your collection? Prudhomme is also bringing two other race cars to the Barrett-Jackson block. His 1989 Pontiac Trans Am “Skoal Bandit” Funny Car (Lot #1346, above left) was winner of the 1989 NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis and a Bud Shootout Champion. It is the last funny car Prudhomme drove in his career before returning to the Top Fuel ranks in 1990. The 2007 Chevrolet Impala SS “Skoal” Funny Car (Lot 1346.1, above, right) holds the distinction as the last funny car to be campaigned by the legendary drag racer and team owner. It was driven by Snake Racing driver Tommy Johnson Jr. in NHRA competition during the 2007 season and was the last race car in professional motorsports to feature Skoal-branded tobacco sponsorship.
