The train will open in the beginning of 2013.

INTERSTATE 17 serves as Phoenix’s connection to Interstate 40 and Interstate 10, two of the nation’s major east-west routes. It is also a major north-south artery for metro Phoenix commuters and travelers.

CLICK IT OR TICKET. Just remember, while traveling in Arizona, don’t forget to wear your seatbelt. If you don’t, you can get slapped with a hefty fine.

2012 WINTER VISITORS WELCOME GUIDE KARTCHNER CAVERNS

T

he Valley is the perfect starting point for a day-trip adventure, whether it’s to Tombstone and the worldfamous Kartchner Caverns, or up to gorgeous Sedona or picturesque Payson:

Day trips

There’s a reason so many people go to SEDONA: It brims with attractions. You can stay at a secluded spa resort or an affordable motel right in the thick of things. Shop for art, jewelry or scorpions encased in Lucite. Take a Pink Jeep tour or hot-air balloon ride. You can camp, swim, fish and mountain bike.

The KARTCHNER CAVERNS, rated one of the world’s 10 most beautiful caves, is an eerie wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites still growing beneath the Whetstone Mountains 40 miles southeast of Tucson. TOMBSTONE’S place in the Old West is well-known from novels and movies - the discovery of silver and resulting boom, the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, larger-than-life characters like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, the bust when the mines flooded and its rebirth as “The Town Too Tough to Die.” ▶

2012 WINTER VISITORS WELCOME GUIDE ARIZONA WINE COUNTRY
