will forever be marked as the year that technology took over the real estate industry. Over the course of this year, challenges brought on by the global COVID-19 pandemic forced businesses and consumers to rethink the way they interact with each other. Physical distancing mandates put in place by government and health officials suspended much of the in-person interactions that businesses rely on, and stay-at-home orders made technology imperative. Technology has never been more important than it is right now. When the stakes are high and deals are on the line, clients want to know trusted agents have the tools to get the job done and agents want to know that their brokerage is going to support them. Here in the Grand Canyon State, no brokerage met the changes better than Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty (RLSIR). Once again adhering to the principles on which RLSIR was founded; professionalism, integrity and white glove service, the brokerage immediately implemented new strategies and resources to help agents and clients when the pandemic hit. RLSIR quickly shifted and adapted to an all-virtual work environment for its buyers, sellers, agents and staff. Since 1947, RLSIR has been at the forefront of implementing the latest and smartest technology. No longer does a buyer, seller or agent need to be physically present for multiple showings, meetings, inspections, or signings.

RLSIR agents are equipped with branded websites and a mobile app complete with an IDX feed, an augmented reality app, partnerships with companies to better customer relationships and much more. The digital age of real estate has arrived and there is no shortage of technology at RLSIR to get the exposure for properties and give buyers, sellers and agents everything they need where being contactless is now the new norm. These partnerships, programs and methods not only ensure the health and safety of all parties involved but also makes it simple to complete transactions from anywhere, at any time.

The brokerage has also revolutionized the way it conducts business with a new business platform called Lyon Connect that better serves an agentâ€™s business with a comprehensive report of production and income history with a complete overview of listing volume, status, days on market, sales volume, GCI, and Net Commission Income. Internally, all agent billing can be managed from within Lyon Connect as well including invoices and marketing services cost and savings are all viewable at a glance. Everything from property signs, photography, videography, print and digital ads, custom email marketing campaigns, even property web statistics that can be scheduled and emailed to clients, are a part of Lyon Connect. They donâ€™t need to go far to access all the apps and tools used on a daily basis either as the login for those programs are already set up. RLSIR is the only Arizona brokerage employing a fulltime in-house marketing team and public relations firm to make sure every newsworthy piece of information and record sale gets the promotion and recognition it deserves. At the height of the pandemic, marketing and PR were crucial to stay relevant as they emphasized digital marketing to reach consumers where they already spent much of their time: on their mobile devices. Virtual showings open houses on Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, FaceTime, Google Duo, etc. connected RLSIR agents with potential homebuyers, offering the chance to view dozens of homes from the comfort of their own home. Agents presented themselves and properties to a captive audience as they walked through their listings,

explained the features of the home at length, and answered questions from interested individuals. If someone wasnâ€™t available to view a live showing, they could view the recorded walkthrough, professional property video or a 3D tour with the click of a mouse. While the Virtual Open House events were initially meant to bridge the gap between agents, buyers and listings during the period of enforced physical distancing, the impact it had on the way homes are marketed and toured will leave a lasting impression. Even after the pandemic, many, if not all, of those virtual options will likely remain popular among consumers. These protocols keep brokers and clients safe and add more power to consumers by making the process of buying and selling homes easy to do from practically anywhere. So far, 2020 has presented challenges; however, by forcing the real estate industry to evolve, it has brought forth enhanced resources for brokers, clients, and the communities it serves.

Home Is Where the Heart Is And there really is no place like home. Whether by necessity or choice, home is not just our place of comfort and relaxation. Home is now our office, our gym, our favorite restaurant, our date night and more. Homebuyers and homeowners have discovered that their next purchase or renovation needs to match and accommodate their new lifestyle of being at home more than ever. COVID-19 has created a great many challenges as well as a new set of desirable amenities for homebuyers. While the Arizona Office of Tourism says it may take a little more than a year to get the state’s tourism back to pre-COVID levels, steps are already underway to keep Arizona’s tourism on the map for many years to come. The office recently released a recovery plan that includes accelerating leisure travel activity statewide, stabilizing visitor volume in urban centers, and reinvigorating and strengthening tourism in rural and Tribal areas. “The foundation our industry has built through the best of times will continue to serve us through these challenging times,” said Debbie Johnson, director of the Arizona Office of Tourism. “We’ll use the strategies outlined in our Tourism Strategic Recovery Plan to stabilize, recover and rebuild our travel industry, which supports so many Arizonans.” Among those sizzling factors that keep Arizona a hot spot for tourism – two words – The Weather!

The vast open space in Arizona will be cherished for many years to come as the national forest land covers 15% of Arizona. The state is home to 24 national parks, making day trips and weekend adventures all the rage. After a brief closure and a few added restrictions, our favorite backdrop and Natural Wonder of the World, the Grand Canyon National Park, is open and shuttle service is continuing. The Grand Canyon is unmatched throughout the world for the vistas it offers visitors on the rim. The canyon stretches an impressive 227 miles long and averages over 10 miles wide. On a normal year, Arizona’s premier National Park attracts about five million visitors per year. For those looking to visit, the entry is through the Town of Tusayan. With plenty of available lodging in neighboring Tusayan, the community has renewed its efforts to promote local tourism.

Tusayan’s Mayor-Elect, Clarinda Vail, remains optimistic, “Since the re-opening of the Grand Canyon National Park we are seeing more tourists in our community and it is a welcoming sight. At 7,000 feet in elevation, Tusayan remains a place for Arizonans seeking some relief from the heat and an opportunity to reconnect with the Grand Canyon or see it for the first time.” From 5 million visitors at the canyon to 12 million rounds of golf, it is fair to say there has never been a better time to get outdoors and enjoy a round of golf. Home to more than 300 public and private golf courses, Arizona deemed golf an essential activity allowing golf courses to remain open with new protocols set in place for physical distancing. While other sporting events such as Spring Training were cut short this year, the Arizona Golf Association managed to hold its 96th Arizona Amateur Championship in July. This winter there’s even more reasons to fall in love with Arizona again. Arizona Snowbowl plans to open

for the ski season and unveil its new high-speed Agassiz combo lift that will redefine the Snowbowl experience with six-person chairs interspersed with eight-person gondola cabins. No matter the season or the temperature, Arizona offers some of the country’s most spectacular scenery.
