PROJECT EXPERIENCE

ASCENSION ISLAND

AUXILARY AIRFIELD

US AIR FORCE

DRMP provided surveying and mapping services for the full-depth $170 million design replacement of the 10,000-LF runway and associated facilities at the Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield. Located in the South Atlantic Ocean between Brazil and Africa, this airfield supports strategic space launch, surveillance and operations for the United States and United Kingdom.

Surveyors performed a design-level topographic map of over 1-square mile of rugged, volcanic terrain utilizing static LiDAR and Unmanned Aerial System photogrammetry and production of a new UFC-compliant, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) airfield obstruction imaginary surfaces. Subsurface Utility Engineering included the designation and location of over 6-miles of underground water, wastewater, stormwater, primary and secondary electric and airfield lighting lines. In addition, surveying staff prepared the survey of the existing pier head and beach landing craft.

Traditional survey techniques to establish a design-level topographic map of over a square mile of GIS airfield obstruction imaginary surfaces, incorporated into the AF GIS system in accordance with

ROCKSLIDE UAS MONITORING

PROJECTS

S&ME FOR NCDOT

In 2019, a landslide dumped approximately 4-million gallons of rock and soil on westbound I-40 and an eastbound exit. Working as a subconsultant to S&ME, Inc. on a North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) project, DRMP provided Surveying and Mapping/Geospatial services to help get the highway open and support the flow of traffic through the area.

DRMP surveyors were mobilized and, on the site, prepared to launch unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to start collecting data for NCDOT. The DRMP team set ground control and flew several UAV missions to create surface models to help ensure the safety of the area. The surface models allow NCDOT to see what the landslide consisted of to develop its plan of action.

DRMP went back to the site of the landslide at later dates to perform additional UAV missions and surveys of the area. With our growing disaster response experience, DRMP is able to help our clients avoid and lessen hazards due to recurring landslides.

• Disaster response services provided:

– UAV Data Collection

– Surface model creation

– Survey response team mobilization

– Monitoring and mapping

– High resolution orthophotography

– Digital Terrain Models (DTMs)

– Quantity surveys

– Post-disaster data collection to mitigate future damage

• Several flight missions flown at each site to produce project deliverables

• DRMP also helped with the stabilization of the affected areas
