Background Our client Andy lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico (USA) for 5 years. His biggest dream was to own a restaurant in Taipei city that has Santa Fe’s style. Andy is an expert in Japanese Sake as well, he wants to combine food with Sake culture, therefore this restaurant will sell Japanese food at daytime; and turn into a sake bar at night.

Challenges - Functional consideration must be given to both the restaurant, and the Sake bar.

- The culture of Santa Fe is not well-known in Taiwan, so Andy hopes to display some of the Santa Fe art work in his restaurant.

- The original site of this building was a very old dwelling house which has over low ceiling (250 cm).

But,this restaurant has to include an air conditioning machine, which has large side apparatus.

- Andy does not have sufficient budget to partition of the space, but he still hopes his customers will enjoy their personal dining place. Meanwhile, this space can be designed for functions that could change anytime.

Personal style style hair hair salon salon Personal Category: Hair salon Location: keelung city, Taiwan Status: Completed Year: 2005 Background “Personal style hair salon” has been operated for many years, but my client found a new place (a 40-year old building),he hopes to create a whole new concept of image in this place.

Design description For this project,I was asked to create a personal style space.Everyone wants to get their personal styling done in an individual space.So, I designed a space for one person only. I wanted to express to the customer,that they are the important person when they sit in this space,and they can enjoy your personal time. A multiple cabinet,for customer and hairdresser use.This concept is from the salon’s name which mentions the word ‘‘Personal’’. Each customer gets a personal place to stow away their personal belongings - clothes, handbag,mobile phone, or something else.And,the hairdresser can put their styling equipment and name tag in this cabinet.

As a whole this space is long, and the route in this space needs to be designed fluently.

After many discussions and site visits with contractors and structural engineers it was agreed to completely gut the interior but I wanted to combine some of original elements, such as the column,into this space. Hopefully showing how old materials work well in a modern context adding both a layer of history and a richness to the project.
