MANIFESTO: NEGLIGENCE OF THE UNSEEN NEGLIGENCE

There is an ancient disease that is still found in larger figures today: negligence. You, me, we fall prey in the web of negligence in every action that we do. A small spark out of negligence can wipe out the whole lot of existence. In simple sense we sometimes neglect the basic existence of the context that hosts us and neglect the negligence of others who live along with us, experience with us.

We neglect the things that we see, don’t see, co-exist, upcoming, past and the present. Our negligence has led some mysteries grow in greater scales that we never thought of like the Triple disaster of Fukushima. Earthquake, Tsunami and nuclear fallout. The wrath of nature, fury of the affected, tensions of the unseen. It is you. You choose whether your negligence jeopardizes the harmony of being whole. Ultimately, our collective negligence disrespects the harmony created by our own creator. Abusing the gifts of the giver is abusing the giver of the gift. Negligence here, negligence there, self, else. The thought of having a perfectly planned space/ infrastructures/ designs can manipulate our senses leading to fatal human error. Errors can occur due to time pressure, communications, exchange of information or while performing an application. It should be remembered that errors due to negligence can be a result of something accidental or due to lack of focus or even in worst cases, purposeful.

This disease is weaved in our actions that we don’t tend to feel. The invisible feel can lead to an accident. An accident that can lead to a catastrophe, A catastrophe into attention. Attention into a crisis. Crisis into a destruction. Destructions to losses. Losses to disharmony. Disharmony into distress. Suddenly like calm after a storm, peace after a war, night after a day, life continues after distress. Moments of happiness, pleasure, ecstasy, mere distractions, engulf our inner space that we let grow our negligence in our own space. Our own house, own communities, cities.

The definition of a space can never be the same after our negligence impacts it. Irretrievable spatial forms after destruction. Oh negligence! Neglecting the negligence is vital. Resistance and responsibility are vital. Negligence peaks when we have ‘Everything’ at our disposal. To collectively avoid any unforeseen disasters, avoid negligence caused by human error, not hold back the spirit of ambition that fosters innovation.

Re-adapting and reconfiguring have become the after-effect of a disaster without realizing the origins of the crisis. We look at a generic sense with a lack of focus on specific entities. Each element has unique characters in a network of ecosystem. We need to understand failures on individual entities and provide tailor made solutions on individual details and their impacting spaces since each of them have differing scales and geometries. Pre-assessment of human interventions on nature is needed. Foreseeing the unseen disasters through experimentation and deeply understanding thresholds, tolerances is needed. We need to compliment natural healing.

The aim is to make the host space pioneer to revive itself, provide refuge, solve its crisis, provide space for extra growth and eventually foster re-humanization of architecture. Human agency is always thought as an aspect of uncertainty and unpredictability. This makes us view it as a destructive force. The alternative is to view human agency, us, as an advantage– a means by which we overcome risks and take advantage of new opportunities. Analyzing human behaviors, applications, trends across time frames and converting them into design parameters would surely help us adopt precise solutions based on the time of disaster. Architecture is key to revive broken surfaces, nodes, networks, their associated spaces and users hence advancing them far beyond their former glory.
