When old friends and classmates Come together, We return to the innocence We knew as children. Before we discovered the size of the world, Together as virgins, We discovered each other. We gave and got, kissed and cried, Fought, forgave, and danced, And then for a while, mostly, we forgot. Ambition, careers, and romance swept us away. We fathered and mothered children, Running back and forth, up and down the road, Chasing dreams and dollar bills. Some caught up with enough, Others too much to carry. Some died young. Older now And growing old, We discover a little truth: We were never so small as once we feared, Nor will we ever be as large as we hoped. The circle of life is a Ferris Wheel: Around we go, high and low, And off we get, where the ride began. Our oldest friends are here, In a carnival town, Where the sun is fun, The beach is ever ours. Holding on to the promise we made in 2011, we are here, reunited again, to celebrate our many memories and friendships before time might interrupt our ability to do so. Blessed to find ourselves at a place in life when we are writing bucket lists, we have so much to share. And how amazing the relationship we have with our Alma Mater is - forty-six to fifty years since we graduated, we are still pulled together. Long ago intertwined by, perhaps, the most turbulent period of modern history, the Sixties shaped our Baby Boomer generation and sculpted a political landscape that can still be seen today. Here in Myrtle Beach, balanced on the edge of the world we were being prepared to enter, we were relatively safe and removed from the whirlwind of events going on around us while they, nonetheless, helped shape our consciousness. Maybe it was the uniqueness of being residents in a resort town where we were exposed to so much by the vacationers who came and went. All of us have special adventures which came about from living at the beach. In the midst of recalling atom bombs, freedom marches, civil rights, the space program, sexual revolution and a country split by war; we are warmed by memories of the romantic Atlantic, Sloppy Joe’s, The Pavilion, the Hickory House, The Ocean Forest, Chapin Company, The Rivoli, the Sun Fun Festival, Brant’s, the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base and the Beach Club. What a backdrop for teenage play... along with pep rallies, proms, state championships, college boards, class rings, first cars and young love! Did we know we were so lucky? When you reminisce with one another this weekend, outside of your mind’s eye, you will be able to visit none of those places with the exception of our consistent habitat and friend, the sea. Along with the building which was our high school, all are gone…as well as much of what we knew as downtown. Those who have spent time arranging these reunion events and locations have done so with an effort to bring you as close as we can back to the beach you remember and love. We do so with a Seahawk Salute to what has gone before as well as what has come since. While you are here, maybe you’ll cruise the Boulevard and be surprised by a clear view of the ocean down by Peaches Corner; visit Ripley’s Believe It Or Not; or drop into a newer Brant’s on the Highway at 21st North. You might drive up to the Grande Dunes or down to Market Common. These are now the scenic tapestry of life here in the 75 th Anniversary year of our city.
The finest and most enduring thread we offer you to our past is the music. With the ghosts that still fast dance nightly by the light of the moon on the Boardwalk, the music has its permanent place here and in our hearts. 1964 Yearbook Dedication To Mrs Clemigene Baiden She has won our love and respect by understanding of and her interest in our school, in our class, and in each of us as an individual. Her sense of humor and bright happy disposition have led us through many crises in our three years. Her keen zest for teaching has turned the indolent young person into an enthusiastic student. Her innate gift of love for people combined with her sense of dignity make her friendship something to be treasured and never forgotton. In our youthful understanding and ways … as awkward and with some immaturity (boys for sure!) … as we were … I would have hoped that all class members knew how much they were cared about … how important they were … and how their uniqueness made us special as the Class of 1964. Myrtle Beach was our very own place (most of the year) … and in our time we were blessed with “true green and gold” friends we still have now. May the “true and lofty ideals” of our Alma Mater continue to “be our guiding star.”

As The Senior Class President of 1964, knowing what you know today, what would you have done different your senior year? The easy and obvious response would be to say “I would have studied harder” or “I would have listened to my fine teachers and not daydreamed instead” or “I would have appreciated my parents and family and friends more and taken advantage of the many opportunities while growing up in beautiful Myrtle Beach”. While all of these answers are true, the reality of life is I most likely would have done exactly what I did my senior year way back in 1965.

1967 Yearbook Dedication To Mr. Hilton M. Dickson Many times we ask ourselves, or we are asked by those around us, What we consider to be an ideal teacher. Often we answer this question by saying that it is the teacher who teaches the student by involving himself in the life of the student. A students life is full of many extracurricular activities and it is the teacher who involves himself in these but remembers that the main responsibility is the teacher who is most endeared to the student. It may be by his unselfishness in being a part of a pep rally, by his willingness to help make a dance a success, or by his ability to laugh at himself that he becomes a part of the student’s life.
