CARLETON COUNTY COVID-19 HOTSPOT DR. JENNIFER RUSSELL MEETS WITH LOCAL LEADERS AS SECOND WAVE HITS REGION BY JIM DUMVILLE

arleton County finds itself at the centre of the second wave of COVID-19 outbreaks following the holiday season. With case numbers growing since the beginning of the new year, New Brunswick Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jennifer Russell visited Woodstock Tuesday, Jan. 12, to meet with local mayors and other officials. “She declared Carleton County a hotspot,” said Woodstock Mayor Art Slipp, who was one of a small group who met at the AYR Motor Centre. He said other area
mayors joined the meeting through teleconference. Russell also met with Woodstock First Nation Chief Tim Paul and members of his health team. Slipp said Russell told them Public Health will closely monitor Woodstock and surrounding communities and undertake extensive contact tracing. “Enforcement teams are active in our area,” he said. Slipp said Russell and her team delivered an excellent presentation. He said the key message she stressed encouraged area residents “to stay
home as much as possible.” The mayor plans to post another video message on the town’s website reiterating Russell’s recommendations. Slipp described it as vital to adhere to the singlefamily bubble and leave home only on essential errands. He said Russell’s advice to residents is to make visits to stores and other stops as quickly and efficiently as possible and make all stops during the same outing.
