OFFICER REMEMBERED FOR WORK ETHIC, LEADERSHIP
Woodstock Police Force, town mourning sudden death of Constable Dale Pollock BY JIM DUMVILLE - Local Journalism Initiative Reporter
T
he Woodstock Police Force (WPF) and the community it serves are mourning the sudden death this week of one of its veteran police officers. Const. Dale Pollock, a 14-year member of the force, died at home early Monday morning, Aug. 9, from what appears to be health-related issues. “We’re losing an exceptional person, and we lost an exceptional police officer,” said Woodstock Police Chief Gary Forward. He said the 53-year-old officer is well known for his strong work ethic and repu-
tation as a quiet leader. Forward expressed his condolences for the officer’s family, friends and those who worked with him every day to protect the community. The chief said the police force and community will miss Pollock’s skills, leadership and dedication. Woodstock Mayor Art Slipp said the news of Pollock’s death came as a “tremendous shock.” He said it’s hard to find the right words to express his feelings at this difficult time. Slipp offered his “sin-
cere condolences” to the officer’s family and friends on behalf of himself and the community. “He was a major contributor to our police department and the community,” he said. Forward said Pollock joined the Woodstock Police Force in 2007 after graduating from the Atlantic Police Academy. He said Pollock chose to enter a career in policing after many years as a longdistance trucker which took him across North America. See OFFICER pg. 2
