“Sunshine List” released for public sector employees By Ron Giofu The “Sunshine List” has been released for 2018. The list, released publicly last Wednesday, showed 40 people from the town of Amherstburg make the list. That includes administration from the town as well as officers from the former Amherstburg Police Service. This year’s total of 40 is up to from the

previous year, as a total of 38 municipal employees made the list for the 2017 salary year, while 36 made the list for 2016. The salaries are released under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act which requires most organizations that receive public funding from Ontario to disclose annually the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous year. The $100,000 threshold has not changed

since the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act was enacted in 1996, and has not been adjusted to keep up with inflation. CAO John Miceli’s 2018 salary was reported at $209,320.28. Former police chief Tim Berthiaume had a salary of $181,461.24 while Sgt. Don Brown earned $145,925.68. Director of planning, development and legislative services Mark Galvin earned $145,609.25 in 2018 while Sgt. Matt Capel-

Cure earned $141,332.59. Director of corporate services Cheryl Horrobin earned $135,191.01 last year.
