AN INSPIRED JOURNEY Dear Riverstone community, We are pleased to share with you the 2019-20 Annual Report, which celebrates the members of our community who gave their time, talents, and resources to Riverstone during a challenging school year. Not long before the March 2020 lockdown, we experienced record-breaking Annual Fund giving, thanks to the incredible leadership of Chris and Lelei Coyle. We were also able to hold a successful in-person Annual Auction, graciously chaired by Tabatha Simmonds and her team of parent volunteers. The public health emergency that shaped the latter half of the school year stretched the limits of our entire community, while also revealing moments of pride. Our faculty rose to the challenge as we made the sudden shift to a 100% virtual learning environment. We witnessed acts of fearlessness, grit, selflessness, innovation, and collaboration–among faculty, students, parents, administrative staff, and trustees alike. The challenges we experienced together made clear that we are capable of overcoming the toughest obstacles when we work as a team and boldly face them head-on. As a school, we succeeded because of the tireless work of our faculty and staff, the dedication of our Board of Trustees, and the generous support of parents, alumni, and friends who believe in our school. We are grateful to the volunteers and donors who gave time and money in support of Riverstone during this unprecedented year, and we hope that you will take a moment to remember what our school has meant to you as you peruse this report. We grew enormously over the course of this school year, and look forward to continuing our growth together with you. Warm regards,

THE 2020 ANNUAL AUCTION The 2020 Annual Auction: International School of Mystery was held at the Grove Hotel in downtown Boise on March 6, 2020. We were incredibly fortunate to have been able to hold an in-person event immediately prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and local lock-down. Because of the generosity of our donors that evening, the total raised between live, silent and dessert auctions, fund-a-need paddle raise and sponsorships was $173,549. Thank you to all who attended, participated, and gave generously to Riverstone on this special evening.

THE 2020 FUND-A-NEED AN ENORMOUS THANK YOU FOR YOUR FLEXIBILITY AROUND OUR SHIFTING PRIORITIES At Riverstone's Annual Auction Gala on March 8, 2020, donors generously raised their paddles to Pave the Way for Riverstone, a campaign earmarked to fund for three of our key needs at the time including: funded faculty committees to better integrate of our curriculum with our outdoor program, community service offerings, and subject continuity in every grade; campus security enhancements; and repaving and repainting our parking lot to help make drop-off and pick-up less stressful. Thanks to you, we raised an incredible $76,885 for these projects. First and foremost: thank you for your support. At the time of the Auction, we were ready to hit the ground running with these projects: we had begun planning committee meetings; a phone call would have given the green light to have remote door locks and more external campus lights installed; and repaving and painting the parking lot just needed to be scheduled over the summer break. This was before COVID-19 upended ours (and everyone's) plans, of course. After finishing the Spring 2020 semester in virtual learning, we followed through with an ambitious decision to open Riverstone to onsite learning with a blended learning model, and we made it our priority to equip faculty with the best tools possible so that highquality academic experiences could continue for students in any format–whether onsite or virtual. Access to an improved virtual experience was especially key for a variety of students: Middle & High School students who would be split into cohort groups; for those who would need to remain virtual-only for medical reasons; as well as for international students in our boarding program, unable to return to the U.S. from their home countries due to COVID-related visa restrictions. We therefore asked you, our donors, for permission to shift the Auction Fund-A-Need proceeds to these new priorities around blended learning, and you responded unanimously in support.
Thanks to your flexibility, understanding, and funding, we installed a custom-designed system to support synchronous and asynchronous blended learning, with classrooms equipped with sound, auto-tracking cameras, and a high definition monitor in each classroom with a zoom screen, to include students who needed to participate virtually. We also invested heavily in our faculty to ensure they are equipped to utilize the technology available and the pedagogical tools to teach in a blended setting. Elementary School faculty participated in a custom-built training from the Idaho Digital Learning Academy that included modules on building and maintaining relationships online, student agency, and assessment tools and planning. We also engaged Boise State's College of Education in a professional development partnership around blended learning. The overarching themes were building community, engagement & motivation, and improving student-teacher interactions. Beyond these initiatives, faculty have also taken part in independent subject-specific virtual or blended learning training opportunities. Thanks to your support, we were able to make the most of a challenging time in our school–and the world’s–history, and continue to deliver the best academic experience possible to our students. Thank you.
