From the desk of the Supervisor

Dear Residents,

Riverhead Town Supervisor

September, 2024

Whether it was an ice-pop on a blistering day, an afternoon with friends at one of our local beaches, or a family vacation out-of-town, I hope you Summer was filled with simple delights and lasting memories.

Summer is fading and Fall is on the horizon, evidenced by the crisp air in the early morning. This is always a welcomed change for me because I love the fall season and gladly welcome the cool air, changing colors and the bounty of the harvest season.

The Fall season also means the return of beloved events with the Riverhead Recreation Department and the introduction of new events, all of which are outlined in the 2024 Fall Brochure.

The Town of Riverhead Recreation Department has once again outdone themselves in putting together an incredible lineup of exciting, family-oriented activities for everyone to enjoy and I hope you will consider participating.

Here are some of the things to look forward to:

Annual Favorites

• Trunk or Treat at Stotzky Park on Friday, October 25th;

• Turkey Trot – 1 mile walk/run – Saturday, November 23rd;

Facility & Seasonal INformation

Park Hours & Information

Our parks are open from dawn to dusk unless a special permit has been granted to an organization for a program or special event.

Most of our park bathrooms are winterized once the temperatures drop in the late fall/early winter which means they will be closed until the spring. Please keep this in mind when planning your visits to one of our parks.

If you notice anything that needs the attention of the park staff, please call us at 631-727-3200 x.737, this is the fastest way we can attend to it.

Dogs are welcome at our parks but, not on our athletic fields. Please leash and clean up after your dog and remember they’re probably most comfortable at our dog parks at either Stotzky Park or Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Be mindful of the signs around our parks. We work hard to keep them up to date so everyone knows the rules and can keep our parks safe, clean, and respectful for everyone. This includes cleaning up what you bring in and sharing facilities with others like courts and equipment.

Currently there is construction going on at Veteran’s Memorial park while we continue to upgrade our facilities. Be aware that construction vehicles will be present while this occurs and to remain at a safe distance from any construction taking place.

Beach Off-Season Information

After Labor Day we no longer staff beach attendants or lifeguards. However, a parking permit is required yearround to park at a Riverhead Town beach or waterfront access point. If you would like to avoid receiving a ticket, please purchase a town beach permit at one of our office locations or online at www.riverheadrecreation.net

Renting a Facility

If you are interested in renting one of our park areas, fields, community center rooms, you can do so by submitting an inquiry online at www. riverheadrecreation.net/park-and-beach-useapplication.html for parks and beach rentals or www. riverheadrecreation.net/community-center-useapplication.html to rent space in our community center.

Hunting Seasons

Bow hunting begins October 1st and runs through January 31st. Please be aware of your surroundings, wear bright colors, and stay on the trail when enjoying EPCAL, the Sound Avenue hunting area, and Middle Road.

Shotgun hunting season is January 1st to January 31st. The above-listed areas are CLOSED during this time to anyone except hunters. This includes the trail at EPCAL. This is for your safety and the safety of those hunting.
