Message From the director It is a distinct pleasure for me to share the upcoming RiverCenter performances with you. Our annual season continues with shows that will delight, inspire, and amaze. In our halls you are sure to find something that pleases be it classical ballet, science fiction, opera, a very hungry caterpillar, or simply a story told with grace and artistry. RiverCenter holds a very special place in the heart of the Valley, not only by its programming and educational outreach but by its support of local arts organizations such as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Schwob School of Music, Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus, Cantus Columbus, and the Columbus Ballet. Additionally, RiverCenter supports outstanding community events including

“Gerry was my life partner. She and I met as teens at a place called Scraggy Neck on Cape Cod. We would have celebrated our 50th anniversary this past year. She was a wonderful wife and mother who was primarily responsible for the fact that we raised three children—Heather, Greg and Patrick—of whom we are justifiably proud. She loved and doted on our four grandchildren— Harrison, Will, Caroline and Bert and would be thrilled to know that a fifth grandchild is on the way. In the mid 1960’s I was in graduate school at Princeton—only about an hour from New York City. We used the opportunity to go to many Broadway shows. We had always loved Broadway musicals, and this love was enhanced by seeing shows with legendary performers such as Ethel Merman, Barbra Streisand, Jerry Ohrbach, Angela Lansbury, Liza Minelli, Zero Mostel, Carol Burnett, Sammy Davis, Jr and many others. I chose 42nd Street for this tribute because in October, 2001 it was the last Broadway musical Gerry and I attended in New York.” —Gavin Spence

CHRIS SAMS (Coalhouse Walker Jr.) My relationship with Ragtime began in 1999 in a tiny room in Houston, TX and the OBC recording. Sixteen years later it is more than an honor to be a part of a production whose triumphs and trials are as evident today as they were at the turn of the twentieth century. Favorite credits include: Mother Divine (Arnold), Fifty Shades of Grey: The Musical Parody (Taylor), Rock of Ages (Mayor/Ja’Keith), The Color Purple (Buster/Ensemble), and Smokey Joe’s Café (Ken Ard). Realizing this dream would not have been possible without the unbounding love and support of the Lowery-Hart family. Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. MATTHEW CURIANO (Tateh) is beyond thrilled to be part of Ragtime. Originally from Schenectady NY, Matthew spent his last year sporting chainmail and a sword in the national tour of Camelot. Cantus Columbus CANTUS COLUMBUS, a professional chorus, was founded in 2000 by Dr. William J. Bullock. It presented its inaugural concert in the spring of that year at the Springer Opera House and that December inaugurated its annual series of Christmas concerts at Columbus’ Saint Luke United Methodist Church. The concerts of its subsequent seasons have been performed at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, one each in Studio Theatre and Bill Heard Theatre, the rest in Legacy Hall. The group has occasionally performed run-out concerts in LaGrange and Savannah. Made up of singers from Columbus and the surrounding areas, the chorus is proud of its performance standards and the quality and variety of its literature. Its annual Christmas concert, A Cantus Christmas, which draws sell-out crowds, recounts the Christmas story with music of master composers and familiar audience carols. Frequently the chorus also presents a spring concert. Except for one program of Psalm settings performed at First Baptist Church of Columbus, these concerts have presented lighter works in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Recent spring programs have been joint presentations with the Vega Quartet and have featured arrangements of the music of Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, George & Ira Gershwin, and Jerome Kern and a diversity of “serenades” by a variety of composers. Now a resident performing ensemble at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, the chorus is supported by grants, contributions, concert sponsors, and ticket sales. The group rehearses in Columbus at the Saunders Center on the River Park campus of CSU and at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church. Conductor WILLIAM BULLOCK, conductor, brings forty-seven years of conducting and administrative experience to his work with Cantus Columbus. In 2000 he retired as professor emeritus from Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music, where he had served as coordinator of music studies and director of choral activities. Previously he held similar positions at the University of Southern Mississippi and Tarrant County Community College (Fort Worth). His BME, MM and Ph.D. degrees are from Florida State University. Currently he is advisor to the Executive Director of RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Bill has conducted and adjudicated choruses in seven south and southwestern states, conducted concert tours of Mexico and Eastern and Western Europe, and led study tours of Scandinavia and Australia. He has participated in international choral conferences in Vienna, Sydney, and Vancouver, founded the Six Flags over Texas Choral Festival, and served as Mississippi state president of the American Choral Directors Association, executive director of Southeastern Music Center, and choirmaster for Methodist and Episcopal churches. A choral literature authority, Bill has published journal articles, musical editions and arrangements, a book on the cantatas of J. S. Bach, and a well-received edition of the Brahms Requiem that includes his own modern, prosodic translation. A recipient of several awards, he is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, and various professional organizations (including the American Choral Directors Association) and is listed in biographical publications, including The New International Who’s Who in Music.
Soloists
MARY EVELYN HANGLEY, soprano, has performed soprano solos in several oratorios, including Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Saint-Saens’ Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, and Schubert’s Mass in C Major. Her opera roles include Juliette in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and Frau Fluth in Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, among others. In 2013 Mary Evelyn performed the role of Micaëla in Peter Brooks La tragédie de Carmen with the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center. While with the Janiec Opera Company, she originated the role of Steampunk in the world premiere of Michael Ching’s Speed Dating TONIGHT! and performed opera scenes as The Marschallin in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier and as Giulietta in Offenbach’s Les contes d’hoffmann. A lover of new music, Mary Evelyn has worked closely with many contemporary composers, including Carlisle Floyd, the late Lee Hoiby, Michael Ching, Sean Doyle, and in January 2014, Ricky Ian Gordon. In 2011 she premiered the role of The Lawyer in Sean Doyle’s chamber opera Samaritan. Her recital repertoire includes the challenging Seiben Frühe Leider by Alban Berg. Mary Evelyn is a recent graduate of The Florida State University, having earned the MM degree in voice performance in 2014. She received her BM degree in music education from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 2012. Mary Evelyn maintains a private voice studio on Long Island, New York. MATT COOKSEY, baritone, hails from Nashville, Tennessee. Currently he is pursuing the master of music degree in voice performance at The Florida State University, where he recently sang the roles of Masetto in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Ko-Ko in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado. He also performed as Papageno in a children’s version of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Previously, Matt attended the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he earned a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance. While at the Jacobs School, Matt sang in the ensemble of six opera productions and performed several incidental roles, including four characters in Bernstein’s comic opera Candide and an immigration officer in William Bolcom’s A View from the Bridge. He also contributed his talent to several symphonic choirs, both at the Jacobs School and in the community. His studies and recitals have included arts songs and oratorio arias. In 2010 and 2011 Matt attended the Bay View Music Festival, where he sang the roles of Marco in Puccini’s Gianni
CANTUS CHRISTMAS 2015 Schicchi and The Magistrate in Michael Ching’s Buoso’s Ghost and participated in scenes from operas by Mozart, Rossini, and Bizet. He also sang roles in musical theater productions, including The Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz and The Teen Angel in Grease. This year Matt starred in his first self-written stage production, Liaisons, a musical revue borrowing from the plot of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Matt and his wife Sara (neé Zellner) will celebrate the first anniversary of their marriage on January 4 in Franklin, Tennessee.

JEFF R. MCLELLAND, organist, received degrees in organ performance from The University of Southern Mississippi, The Eastman School of Music, and The University of Alabama, where he studied with Paul Andersen, Russell Saunders, and Warren Hutton, respectively. He is a past dean of several chapters of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and has served on the AGO Executive Council as Regional Councillor for the southeast United States. A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Jeff is director of music and fine arts at Independent Presbyterian Church (IPC) in Birmingham, Alabama. His duties include, besides serving as organist, direction of all choral activities and administration of the nationally prestigious November Organ Recital Series and the annual Religious Arts Festival. Prior to assuming his duties at IPC in 2000, Jeff worked for seventeen years in academia in Mississippi, serving as organ professor at Mississippi College and William Carey University. He has worked as a church musician since he was 14 years old. Jeff performs frequently for churches and AGO chapters throughout the eastern United States. He was a featured performer at the 1997 and 2001 Southeast Region Conventions of the AGO. In August of 2003 he accompanied the Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Cincinnati (Ohio) in a residency at Salisbury Cathedral, England. In June of 2004, he took the IPC Choir to sing a residency at St. Mary’s Anglican Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland. In the summer of 2007, the choir performed throughout Italy, and in 2011 it presented five concerts in Prague, Bratislava and Vienna. A 2015 tour took the choir to Spain for performances at the Sagrada Familía in Barcelona and the Great Mosque-Cathedral in Córdoba. The choir has released thirteen recordings since 1965, most recently The Lord is My Light (2007) and A Babe is Born (2010).
Pianist JANIE LEE BULLOCK, pianist, received the BME degree from Florida State University and the MM degree in piano performance with emphasis in accompanying from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she collaborated in many vocal and instrumental chamber music programs and musical theater performances. She has done extensive choral accompanying and has been pianist/organist for several choral concert tours throughout Eastern and Western Europe with the Columbus Civic Chorale and with the Young Presbyterian Singers. She is a collaborative pianist at CSU’s Schwob School of Music, where she plays recitals, juries, competitions, master classes and auditions. In 2007 Janie Lee accompanied the national winner of the MTNA Young Artists vocal competition in Toronto, Canada, and in 2008 accompanied the national finalist at the MTNA conference in Denver, Colorado. She has served as a church musician in Methodist and Episcopal churches for thirty years and has been the organist at First Baptist Church of Columbus since 2003. Janie Lee is active in musical theater, having served as music director and pianist for Broadway shows in Texas, Mississippi, and Georgia. Currently, she is principle pianist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and has been pianist for Cantus Columbus since the group’s founding in 2000. This performance is supported by a grant from the City of Columbus through the Columbus Cultural Arts Alliance and the Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau.

SUNNY (Sandy) is a 5-year-old terrier mix, discovered by guardian and trainer William Berloni at BARC Municipal Animal Shelter in Houston. Berloni found Sunny’s soulful eyes reminiscent of the Sandy from the original Broadway production. Sunny starred on Broadway in Annie, loves toys that squeak and all children, especially red-headed little girls. MACY (Sandy) was adopted from Rocky Spot Rescue of Oklahoma City, OK in Dec 2009 by guardian and trainer William Berloni at the age of 18 months. Her journey is truly inspiring. Her first production of Annie was in the summer of 2010 and since she has starred in over two dozen productions nationwide. STACY N. TAYLOR (Production Stage Manager) is so excited to join the touring production of Annie. Previous tours include Spring Awakening, South Pacific, and Beauty and the Beast. Most recently she worked for Blue Man Group at Universal Orlando. Other theater credits include Weston Playhouse, Ohio Light Opera, and Surflight Theater. Additionally, she spent a summer stage-managing Sea Lions at SeaWorld San Antonio and currently works part time as a stage manager at Disney’s Animal Kingdom-Disney World. She is a proud graduate of the MFA program at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music (CCM). SUZAYN MacKENZIE-ROY (Stage Manager) is excited to be returning to the road with TROIKA and Annie. Her most recent experience has been in the academic world, as Venue Coordinator and Stage Management instructor at SUNY Oswego. Street before becoming a Cruise Director. He then joined his first of four TROIKA productions. Mr. Anthony opened Blue Man Group at the Venetian in Las Vegas and toured all over the world with two of Cirque du Soleil’s largest productions. He also opened a new aquatic show in China for Franco Dragone. He is ecstatic to be back with TROIKA! MARTIN CHARNIN (Director, Lyrics) is celebrating his 58th year in the entertainment industry, which began in 1957 when he created the role of Big Deal (one of Jerome Robbins’ authentic juvenile delinquents) in the original company of West Side Story. He played the role for exactly 1,000 performances. Since then, he has been involved in over 145 theatrical, television, film, and night club productions as a director, producer, composer, or lyricist. He is one of the dozen people who have won Emmys, Tonys and Grammys, and the Peabody Award for Broadcasting. Annie, which came to Broadway in 1977, originally ran for 2,377 performances, and has been revived there three times. He has directed Annie 19 times (after directing the original production in New York), in London, Montreal, Amsterdam, and Melbourne as well as Annie’s 14 national U.S. companies. He has collaborated with Charles Strouse, Vernon Duke, Marvin Hamlisch, Mary Rodgers, and twice with Richard Rodgers on I Remember Mama and Two by Two. He has written for, or directed, Fred Astaire, Ethel Merman, Jack Lemmon, Ann-Margaret, Jack Benny, Anne Bancroft, Betty Hutton, Sutton Foster, Sarah Jessica Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bebe Neuwirth, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Larry Kert, Chita Rivera, Jane Lynch, Tony Bennett, Jason Alexander, and Jay-Z, among countless others, and for his wife, Shelly Burch (who originated a leading role in the original company of Nine), and who opened her new onewoman-show at the famed Broadway Bistro, 54 Below, in 2014. He currently has 4 new musicals (Wallenberg, Love is Love, Robin Hood, Something Funny’s Going On) that are “circling over Kennedy” getting ready for production in 2016 and 2017, in New York, including a revival of Annie Warbucks, which opened Off-Broadway in New York in 1993 and will move to Broadway in 2016. Last year, “Tomorrow” from Annie became one of the 100 most performed musical numbers in the last century. THOMAS MEEHAN (Book) is a three-time Tony Awardwinning book writer for the Broadway musicals Annie, The Producers and Hairspray. In addition, he has written the books of a dozen or so other Broadway musicals, including Richard Rodgers’ I Remember Mama, CryBaby, Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, Elf, Chaplin and most recently Rocky (with Sylvester Stallone). A long-time contributor of humor pieces to The New Yorker magazine and an Emmy Award-winning TV comedy writer, he has
also written a number of screenplays, most notably for To Be or Not to Be and Spaceballs. He is a member of the Council of the Dramatists Guild. CHARLES STROUSE (Music) A graduate of New York’s P.S. 87, Townsend Harris H.S., and the Eastman School of Music, Charles has studied composition with Aaron Copland, Arthur Berger, and David Diamond in the US and Nadia Boulanger in Paris. Charles has composed copious chamber music, two piano concertos, a string quartet and two operas. After which, being broke like most composers, he was a rehearsal pianist and dance arranger for many shows, played in bar rooms, ballet classes, at weddings and strip joints (a particular boon for one who was to write the music for the film The Night They Raided Minsky’s). One morning in 1960 he awoke to find he had written (with Lee Adams and Mike Stewart) Bye Bye Birdie (Tony Award), which is still among the most performed musicals in America, followed by Golden Boy with Sammy Davis, Jr. (Tony Nomination). Then came, Applause (Tony Award), It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman, Rags (Tony Nomination) and Annie (Tony Award). In between, there have been scores for movies including Bonnie and Clyde and All Dogs Go to Heaven. Throughout his career, Charles has received the Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Frederick Lowe and the Leonard Bernstein Awards for musical achievement. He is married to director/choreographer Barbara Siman and is the father of Benjamin (attorney, author, composer), Nicholas (psychotherapist), Victoria (screen writer) and William (also a screen writer.) LIZA GENNARO (Choreographer) choreographed the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of The Most Happy Fella directed by Gerald Gutierrez, and the Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress starring Sarah Jessica Parker. She has choreographed Off-Broadway and in regional theaters across America including: Roundabout Theatre, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, The Old Globe, Hartford Stage, Guthrie Theater, The Goodspeed Opera House, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Paper Mill Playhouse and The St. Louis “Muny” Opera. She collaborated with Stephen Flaherty and Frank Galati on their chamber musical Loving, Repeating: A Musical of Gertrude Stein for the About Face Theater in Chicago.In 2014, she choreographed Elf: The Musical at Pioneer Theatre, the 20th Anniversary Concert of Titanic: The Musical at Avery Fisher Hall, and she created a dance-pantomime of A Charlie Brown Christmas for the New York Pops Christmas Concert at Carnegie Hall. DONALD KINDL (Chief Financial Officer) joined Troika in 1992 as the company’s comptroller and assumed his current role in 2000. He holds both a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. INTERGALACTIC NEMESIS The year is 1933. Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Molly Sloan and her intrepid research assistant Timmy Mendez team up with a mysterious librarian from Flagstaff, Arizona, named Ben Wilcott. Together, they travel from Rumania to Scotland to the Alps to Tunis to the Robot Planet and finally to Imperial Zygon to defeat a terrible threat to the very future of humanity: an invading force of sludge-monsters from the planet Zygon! A mash-up of the audio drama and comic book. We take the comic-book artwork, remove the word balloons, and project it panel-by-panel on a huge screen while three actors voice all the characters, one Foley Artist creates hundreds of sound effects, and a pianist performs the cinematic score. WHO’S WHO
RACHEL LANDON hails from Houston, Texas and attended The University of Evansville in Indiana for her bachelor’s degree. Rachel has performed as an actor and singer all over the country. Some of her favorite regional credits include Emma in Tell Me On a Sunday, Mrs. Walker in The Who’s Tommy, Rona in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Diana in Next to Normal, Jean in Dead Man’s Cell Phone and Bernie Bernstein in Bigfoot and Other Lost Souls. Rachel is also a founding member and Artistic Director of Standing Room Only Productions in Houston, Texas. BROCK ENGLAND is an actor, director, and producer, and has been active in stage and film for over twenty years. He’s either performed or assisted in a performance of just about every major musical you can name, toured the country with an equestrian circus, and is an accomplished Shakespearean actor. He’s been seen in numerous short films and his first feature film, entitled Zero Charisma, premiered at the South By South West Film Festival in 2013 garnering the audience award for Best Narrative. He was awarded Best Lead Actor by the Austin Critic’s Table for his performance in Hidden Room Theatre’s original practices production of Rose Rage, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry VI plays. He also writes and co-produces an original web series called Clown vs Mime. In his spare time, he enjoys running, sailing, working on his motorcycle(s), and singing. CHRISTOPHER LEE GIBSON Graduate, American Musical and Dramatic Academy (1990). Actor for several producing companies in Tampa, FL; The Loft Theatre, The Tampa Players, American Stage Theatre, The Off-Center Theatre, B.O.B. (theatrical palindrome) and The Hillsborough Moving Company. Producer of the Orlando International Fringe Festival (2001-2004). Production Manager at Orlando’s Mad Cow Theatre (2005). Actor for Mad Cow and The Orlando Shakespeare Theatre. Actor for The Austin Playhouse, Zach Scott Theatre, Salvage Vanguard Theatre, and The Da! Theatre Collective. KELLY MATTHEWS holds a BFA in Acting from Texas State University. Her favorite stage credits include The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds (Tillie), Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Germaine), Much Ado About Nothing (Hero), What Light Through Yonder Window Breaks (Laura), and Almost Maine (Ginette/Sandrine/Gayle); for this show she won the TSU Ramsey Award for Best Actress and an Irene Ryan nomination. Kelly has also studied abroad in England with The Royal Shakespeare Company. She has participated in the Commedia Del’arte troupe Heartfelt Tricks playing such characters as Isabella and Smeraldina, as well as having participated in The Paramount Theatre’s Story Wranglers and an Austin favorite: FronteraFest. Kelly is also an acting teacher at the ZACH Theatre Performing Arts School in Austin, TX. HARLAN HODGES is a Pianist, Composer, and Producer from West Texas. Formerly pursuing his studies at Texas Tech University with world renowned pianist William Westney as well as composition and orchestration from leading composers Peter Fischer and Mei-Fang Lin, he was selected as a finalist in the 2011 BMI Student Composer Awards for his solo piano work Six Poems, and was recipient of the 2011 Cactus Pear Xtreme Composer Award for his Piano Quintet Vision of a Mockingbird. Producing works that reach from Big Band, Orchestra, and Electronics, to Art Installations, and Rock/Pop arrangements, he has had the great honor to work and learn alongside many of his favorite musicians including Paul English, Wayne Bergeron, and Donald Fagen. Now residing in Austin, TX he regularly performs, writes for film and television, and is developing a new musical called Jericho Can’t Die Yet.

PERFORMERS SIMON RAINVILLE, PERFORMER Simon hails from Ontario, where he was born in Toronto and raised in Ottawa. Since graduating Ryerson University in 2003 he has travelled to Armstrong, BC to work with The Caravan Farm Theatre; to Newmarket, ON working with Resurgence; and to Halifax, NS, to work with Shakespeare By The Sea. He discovered puppetry and Mermaid in 2013, where he completed training with the Mermaid Institute of Puppetry Arts in the spring and joined the company in the fall. GRAEME BLACK ROBINSON, PERFORMER Graeme was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Since graduating from George Brown College’s Theatre Arts program, he has studied physical theatre forms across Canada with many esteemed teachers. Graeme is the Artistic Director of Toronto’s Silent Protagonist theatre company. He starred in their inaugural mask and puppet show, Or Be Eaten, at the 2013 Toronto Fringe Festival. Most recently he wrote and directed Cryptids of the Canadian Shield for the Toronto Puppetry Collective’s Puppet Allsorts Festival. Graeme joined Mermaid in 2014. Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, and Arts Nova Scotia. Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia is a member of the Professional Theatre Association of Canadian Theatres and engages professional Artists who are members of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement. 70
THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR Mermaid’s compilations of five Eric Carle stories have generated remarkable statistics and earned considerable praise from audiences on several continents. In 2014, the production celebrated its fifteenth year of continuous touring and welcomed its two millionth spectator. Featuring innovative black-light puppetry and evocative original music, the fifty-minute production includes three beloved stories: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud and The Mixed-Up Chameleon.

ERIC CARLE, AUTHOR Eric Carle, internationally acclaimed author and designer, has written and illustrated more than seventy books for young children. Born in Syracuse, NY, he spent his youth in Germany where he studied fine art in Stuttgart prior to returning to the US in 1952 to work as a graphic designer for The New York Times and later as art director of an international advertising agency. His delightful books, which combine stunning collage artwork with an imaginative approach to learning, have sold more than 110 million copies worldwide. Eric and his wife Barbara divide their time between the Florida Keys and the hills of North Carolina. In 2002, The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art opened to the public in Amherst, MA. He’s directed numerous shows for the Theatre, including Very Eric Carle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favorites, Guess How Much I Love You, I Love My Little Storybook, Swimmy, Frederick, Inch by Inch, Goodnight Moon & The Runaway Bunny as well as designed many others. A gifted performer, Jim has toured extensively in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan. He serves as director of puppetry for Symphony Nova Scotia’s production of The Nutcracker, and frequently conducts master classes in puppetry in North America and abroad. Jim is Mermaid Theatre’s Artistic Director. STEVEN NAYLOR, COMPOSER Steven has created the music for more than a dozen Mermaid shows, including Very Eric Carle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favorites, Guess How Much I Love You, I Love My Little Storybook, Swimmy, Frederick, Inch by Inch, Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. His many other professional activities include original film and television scores; contemporary music and ‘musique actuelle’ performance; university teaching
and curriculum development; and a long-term international involvement with electroacoustic concert music. Steven is Mermaid Theatre’s Artistic Consultant for Music and Sound Design. GORDON PINSENT, NARRATOR Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, Gordon is an actor, director, writer and singer of great versatility, and one of Canada’s most beloved artists. His work for more than three decades in theatre, film, radio and television has earned him international recognition, as well as honorary doctorates from three universities. In 1999 he was named a Companion of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest award of merit. CHRISTINE OAKEY, STAGE MANAGER Christine is a graduate of the University of King’s College in Halifax and the National Theatre School of Canada. She has served as stage manager with Atlantic Canada’s major theatres, including for Two Planks and a Passion, Theatre New Brunswick, 2b theatre and Eastern Front Theatre. Christine has worked in Edmonton, Blyth and Toronto as well as at the prestigious Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. She also works as a venue manager for Sundance Film Festival, Hot Docs, the Toronto International Film Festival and the popular BuskerFest in Toronto.
