WEEK 9 READING: PERSPECTIVE AS SYMBOLIC FORM

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) Perspectival projection is obtained by drawing and combining plan which determines the width and the elevation which issues the height.

A fully rational (infinite, unchanging and homogoneous) space. It is a mathematical space take on the physiological perception of space.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 Perspective 1 This perspective contains both space inside the Old Quad and the outer part which provide large space for further creating.

From this perspective, what I want to show abaout the palace can be represented.

Perspective 2 The camera position of this perspective is commpletely in opposite direction to that of perspective 1.

This perspective provides large area of blank space and is good for designing an outdoor space.

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2 Perspective Scene 1 This perspective tries to show a royal palace. It is a combination of both outer and inner space. This scene is taken at day time.

Marble columns, mullioned windows, chair with fringed cushion, ceiling and wall lights, these all aim to show the prosperity of the cty Olivia.

Women are laughing while weacing rugs. For the outer space, a white peacock is standing on the lawn.

This is a scene of a rich and happy city.

Perspective Scene 2 Contrastly, perspective 2 is a scene of the nightlife of Olivia. Women rowing canoes under the moonlight, a water wheel which powers the mill.

It is a scene of peace and harmony.

Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words)

Autographic practice is arts like painting, sculpture, which has direct contact to audiences. It is real.

Contrastly, allographic does not hace direct intervention with audiences. It is intangible arts like opera or music. Allograohic practice is based on convention, it operates through interpretation. It is more abstract. Notation is necessary to allographic art, allographic arts depends on notation and produce something has not exist, ilke relaties, imagination.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) As the world is developing, all cities today are connected through networks which images, data and money transpose freely. New representational techniques are needed for expressing not only architectural ideas, like two or three dimensional views, but also to create a world of harmony. A well fit between the object and the representation wanted to be achieved.

FINAL DRAWINGS The Old Quad was divided into three parts which are outer spcae, inner space and outer space again, from left to right. Also, it consists day and night time. Arrows show the movement of Marc Polo.

Cities & signs 5: Olivia

In perspective 1, Marc Polo moves in a slow speed, as he is in a well-decorated palace, there are luxurious chair, chandelier, beautiful white peacock.

Women are weaving hapily and meanwhile staring at the elengant peacock (iso: arrow of sightline). They are having a light mood (iso:mood signs).

Day & Night

In the perspective of the nightlife of Olivia, there is women rowing canoes on the river and this is a peacful scene.

There are crowds wandering, talking and laughing at night (iso: crowds symbols/ light mood).

However, under these scenes of harmony, peace and happy life, it is repetitive work that women are doing, dirty and noisy street and wasteful life. This is all falsehood and that is why Marc Polo has a heay felling (iso: heavy mood signs).

APPENDIX For Photoshop, brush tool is used to create shadows or make depth, in order to make to the scene looks more real.

Layers are important to be made!

Also, the choosing of images need to be taken into considered. Some inages might go pixelated after enlarging them. Also, it is necessary to change the brightness/ contrast of the scene because the printer print things darker. The reprint work looks better after adjusting.

It is also essential to make layers while doing Rhino because it will make the later steps in AI much more easier.

Making 2D always takes time to generated and sometimes hard to find.
