MODULE 1 HOW TO DRAW A CROSSIANT?

MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT How to measure a Croissant?

Tracing paper was effective in transfering scan image into drawing. A lot of harchings were made, so the drawing looks real. Depth, shades and surface were all shown by those hatchings. After that, these sketches were scanned again and imported into computers. Potoshop is used to make it claen and tidy, some more information including auxiliary lines and data were added.

The most important thing i learnt in this project is that how to make 2D images into 3D model. Grids are really helpful in making 3D model. Although it is difficult to understand at first, it is finally worked out and this is believed to be quite important in further study.

TWO GIVEN PERSPECTIVES

NEW MARIO WORLD

The making of new Mario world.

Two characters were added, Mario on the boat and a whale in the water. The boat is going to fall down, columns and grounds are cracking, dangerous things are happening while they cannot be seen on a 2d level. Blue and orange, which are two contrast colours are used to give a strong visual ecperience to the audiences. The decorative patterns on the wall is based on the given world.

Broken pieces of the block, a river and so on were drawn.

Materials Used. There are tracing paper, T-square, pencils, eraser, fine liner, rulers and masking tape.

Set Up 3D Model. The beginning of each project is always hard. This is one side of the Mario World. As this is the beginning, it took me the longest time to consider, measure and redraw.

Pin Up. Drawings were all pinned on wall to avoid being ruined or folded.

Coins Drawing. The most complicated drawing part.

The making of new landscape

PATTERN VS SURFACE

I aims to show a balance on this surface: from upper left to lower right, there are fewer 3D blocks at top left corner because fragments at this part are full, they are sealed without holes on top. While there are dense 3D fragments at the bottom right corner as they are more spaces. Also, this model is axis-symmetric by its diagonal.

The final work does not look like a real square from the top view because the base of the landscape is a big curve, also due to the handwork errors. It is not successful as what i want to achieve is not shown clearly.

Landscape. The given landscape is a really big curve.

3D Panelling. Three different basic fragments as shown above are used. As the base of the landscape is designed to be lots of boxes, pyramids might be the foundation of this design. Then the further design is all beased on this solid figure. It can be seen that the lanscape goes from left to right, from high to low.

Unrolling Faces. This is a complicated process and takes a lot of time. The number of blocks that are needed to be joined bedore unrolling needs to be considered as when they are joined they cannot be unjoined unless a complicted task is making. Also, they should be morroed.

Ispiration. The idea of this design also comes from this kind of sh. It is a triangle which is symmetrical and beautiful.

CITIES & SIGNS 5: OLIVIA

The Old Quad was divided into three parts which are outer spcae, inner space and outer space again, from left to right. Also, it consists day and night time.

Arrows show the movement of Marc Polo.

At the peft part, Marc Polo moves in a slow speed, as he is in a well-decorated palace. At the right part of the nightlife of Olivia, it is a peacful scene. However, behind these scenes of harmony, peace and happy life, this is all falsehood and that is why Marc Polo has a heay felling (iso: heavy mood signs).

Perspective Scene 1 This perspective tries to show a royal palace. It is a combination of both outer and inner space. This scene is taken at day time.

Marble columns, mullioned windows, chair with fringed cushion, ceiling and wall lights, these all aim to show the prosperity of the cty Olivia. Women are laughing while weacing rugs. For the outer space, a white peacock is standing on the lawn.

This is a scene of a rich and happy city.

Perspective Scene 2 Contrastly, perspective 2 is a scene of the nightlife of Olivia. Women rowing canoes under the moonlight, a water wheel which powers the mill.

It is a scene of peace and harmony.

REFLECTION

Insert a 300 words reflection. Use the following as a guide: Through those lectures and readings provided, i learnt a lot of background of the development of 2D and 3D and the roles they played in ancient and current times.

Some definition of certain terms helps me understand them better. For example, the difference between autographic and allographic is that one is flat and the other one is more abstract. Allographic is applied in the last project and notations which are necessary are used. The importance of using these techniques, not only allographic is known. What was talked about in the lecture is closely connected with each project.

From these projects, my technical skills have been improved a lot through those workshops and design process. Rhino is so impressive, although it first gave me a lot of trouble on modelling and unrolling objects. Rhino gives me a lot of space to imagine and shows what i want to achieve in me mind into a real one. I believe it is the most useful application as it saves a lot of time in making models withs hands. I learnt how to transfer 2D into 3D in two ways, one is by drawing with girds and one is by Rhino. Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator also helps a lot in doing 2D projects.

Different treatment can be carried to surface and give the image depth, light and contrast. All these softwares help make life much easier.

I am not satisfied with my projects and i think i should improve in my further study. Detail designing is a main weakness in my project. In addition to that, there is still space for me to push the design and my thinking should give full play. Lines of different thickness should be considered in order to make the main object more obvious. Also, more annotation is needed to be added. For example, in project 2, I ignored the connection between the given Mario World and my designed one. As a result, they looks like two different world. Further more, in project 3, 2D space needed to be improved in a large scale. Also, my handwork makes the work worse.

There are a lot of things i need to improve.
