This portfolio of works goes beyond the demonstration of concrete proof of skills and learning. It provides a gateway for creative self-expression, inspired from colors, lines, proportion, texture, fashion, human interaction and travel. How all of these factors are interweaved into concrete 3d remain a sheer intuition by the designer which cannot be explained by a mathematical formula but can only be expressed through physical art and that is through the edifice and space.

ADMINISTRATION

Upon entering the main lobby, one feels being in a 5 star luxury hotel instead of being in a hospital. The grand lobby faces the Abu Dhabi urban skyline fronted by azure sea waters. The design intent features colors and finishes aiming not only faster recovery for patients, but also providing a luxurious feel to both visitors and patients alike - contrary to the usual stereotyped spartan feel of hospitals. The luxurious facility also features F&B, retail spaces such as salons , convenience stores and travel office, conference areas, business center, and childcare area.

A multi-billion world-class multispecialty hospital built on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi in UAE, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD) is a 364 bed facility (expandable to 490 beds) and has 5 clinical floors, 3 diagnostic and treatment levels and 13 floors of critical and acute inpatient units. Designed and developed by Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Healthcare and leading US-based hospital, Cleveland Clinic, it addresses a range of complex and critical care requirements targeted to the Abu Dhabi population.

North Block, the completed design. The use of noble materials such as brass, silver and dark walnut. Put together as immaculate retail displays and luxurious lobbies.

Core Block - the materials are worked and formed into prototypes using the highest quality manufacturing with old world craftsmanship. Prototypes stand alone as sculptures and art pieces.

South Block, the first point on the journey, represents beautiful raw materials. Artfully arranged and unfinished, full of their inherent potential. Blurring the lines between rugged and refined.

18,581 SQ.M. (RETAIL) CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION FRONT OF HOUSE (FOH)

Designed for the needs of designers, the District’s offices will forge an active design community and meet contemporary business needs. Treating the three blocks, South, Core and North as 3 points along a journey, a narrative is formed that describes the process of creation from raw material to working prototype to finished product. The interior concepts have been developed in relation to the landscape design concept of Deco - Post Modernism. An emphasis has been placed on the key focal areas, Front of House and Lobbies.

Founded in 1987, Huawei’s vision is to bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world. The interior design of the Baygate office embodies this vision: the concept of agility and movement is seen in the undulating lines at the main reception lobby, colorful open offices and game room encourage innovation and playfulness, and agility interpreted in the open office format elevated on raised flooring and IT infrastructure of the headquarters.

My scope of work includes FFE review and selection, site and field inspections, attendance of progress and site meetings, and preparation of internal meeting notes.

Located in one of Dubai’s tallest commercial buildings, the Huawei Baygate Office occupies 5 levels, overlooking an imposing 45 meter atrium. The office will be the main headquarters of the giant corporation in the UAE/Middle East. The space comprises of open and close offices, varioussized meetings rooms, phone booths, game room and support/ administrative rooms. The overall theme incorporates the Huawei concept design found in the rest of the global offices, with a Middle Eastern twist.

ARCHITECTURE

Situated on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Ferrari Experience Building is built to be the world’s first Ferrari theme park and the largest attraction of its kind. The 200,000 sq.m. roof, shaped in the style of a classic double curve side profile of a Ferrari GT car, houses more than 20 rides and attractions. The new holiday destination will also hold the world’s fastest rollercoaster, the F05, in one of the triforms and the 62m shot ride in the centre of the funnel roof.

Awardwinning Benoy, as a Lead Consultant and concept designer of the Ferrari Building, are responsible for shell & core design of the building. This is divided into the roof, plaza, mezzanine and undercroft levels. My responsibility included design development schemes, and contract administration including reports and documentation on architectural and site coordination issues. Schemes also included analysis and research of materials and design for the roof, column cladding, ceiling and louvre packages and to provide concept details for these.

Set to open in 2010, there will also be plenty of hospitality and shopping to go along with the rides, not to mention the 300,000 sq.m. retail complex adjacent to the structure. During concept and scheme design stages of Ferrari World building, Yas Island Draft Environmental Design Guidelines were taken into consideration. For example, the roof and perimeter façade was designed to reduce glare and heat. Other considerations were also integrated into the design such as utilities, health and safety, acoustic impact, to mention a few.

PLAZA

Nestled atop the verdant Pardo hills, this 600 sq.m. residence, located in a cul-desac lot, offers a magnificent vista of the city, neighboring islands and the bay. With this ideal location, the architect planned the rooms to gain benefit of the breathtaking panorama. The structure is comprised of 3 levels, the undercroft, ground and second level. These include the living room, dining ro om, kitchen, pantry, 5 bedrooms, entertain ment room, family room, and service area contain ing servant’s quarters & laundry area. The client, being musicians, wanted a modern but abstracted neo-classical theme. Geometric forms come into play in the shape of circles and curves at the façade, but at the same time hints of conventionality appear through the hip-gable roof, its fascia following the perimeter of the façade. To give the exterior volume and depth, synthetic stone slate was applied at the undercroft level, to serve as a base for light textured finish above it. The sloping site added to the dynamic encounter as one explored around the house , with a landscaped garden complementing the structure.

Classical musicians by hobby, it was essential that the living room should have a music area and ample space, as the clients constantly held parties with a string ensemble and the like. The 100sq.m.doubleheight living room contains modern and classical elements, fused into one theme. Curvilinear walls and ceiling complement the classical details like chandelier, furniture and paintings. The double-height columns are treated with faux wood cladding, with accents of lacquer metallic finish and gold colored insets. A sweeping curve stair leads up to the second level containing the bedrooms, family and entertainment room. Cove lighting on the elliptical recessed ceiling further accentuates the chandelier suspending below it.

TheDining room contains classical elements via use of moldings, wood finished framed doors with burl wood laminate , and glass as center panel inlay. A combination of dropped ceiling in faux wood finish and a vaulted ceiling gives the space height and volume, the effect amplified by the cove lighting along the edges of the vaulted ceiling.

Ferrari. Top considerations for developing of the column cladding design are summarized into the following: quality of finish, material’s response to health and safety in terms of pre & post-installation, fire safety, loading limitations, cost, and design details. The design details are to consider the Golden Mean proportion and the elements that connote Ferrari as well as being consistent with the existing interior design elements.

The original concept of the ceiling cladding was a metal scoop ceiling that would conceal the spaceframe beams running across the shield. Due to value engineering, the metal scoop option was scrapped and replaced with a stretched ceiling proposal.

Supplying for the globally competitive company Bigfoot Entertainment, we were tasked to supply the units for the mentor’s suites, owner’s suite and the international student’s housing. The hotel suites were built for long-term stay of international mentors that the academy would employ for teaching programs as well as for international artists who would film in the facility’s world class sound rooms. LuA translated the architect’s concepts and built the furnishings. Under LUA, I also developed other design for various clients such as Steel and Stone and Lancaster Suites.
