ABOUT ME I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Architecture degree at Amity University Dubai. I am an individual who is curious about the world around me, hence learning new things is something I enjoy and love. i can proudly say that I was able to maintain a high CGPA within my university all the while participating in multiple extracurricular activities. One of my goals is to always learn something new no matter my age, hence I would love to work in a company that can teach me more about the world every day.

Le Solarium is a start-up/project which was co-founded by myself and 3 other members. We deal with an innovative way to treat greywater.

CHAPTER 1 THE HIGH RISE

Design Brief:The studio aimed to make us be able to design a high rise in a dense urban setting. The functions to be included where offices spaces, a community hall, a sports hall and a library

Detail raised floor and ceiling system in floors adjacent to the terrace.

Hot water from outside is brought in via cavities on the ceiling and floors.

•

They are then passed from near water lines, thereby cooling the air. cool air is introduced to the indoor spaces, reducing the dependency on air conditioning.

To support the 15m cantilver, a steel bracing system was used.

A steel brace connects the slab to the core, from where load is transfered.

There are 2 landscaped areas at the center of the buildings. Multiple activities happen in these spaces.

As demarcated on the plan there are multiple voids on the ground floor. these voids help to bring natural light into the basement. thereby allowing planters to be placed in them. this helps create a fresh and vibrant mood in the basement.

As part of the social and concept integration part, the building has activity spaces located within it. there are farming areas provided on every floor. the other social spaces are titled “connecting social spaces” and connect different floors together. there are 3 such activity spaces that are created.

Street Development The second intervention was the social development of Zone A of the site. this zone was selected because of its high pedestrian density. the interventions include the addition of seating, courtyards and other elements.

Spaces that were previously used for illegal parking are converted into courtyards. this increases social interaction and decreases the danger levels within the area.

Lighting Type 1 This type of lighting in streets with low lighting. Because of the light from the shops, most areas are well lit. However, once the shops close the streets became dark and hence unsafe. These are wall-mounted solar-powered lights that lit up after the shops close keeping the streets alive.

Lighting Type 2 This type of light is used in the main activity areas as well as the streets that lead to those spaces. These are more aesthetic and hence are better at pulling people in. These are lantern-shaped pendant lights that are also solar-powered.

Phases Phase 1 includes the pre-planning process. Identification of access ways and key problem areas as well as the set up of the scaffoldings. This is a very crucial step as without this more problems will show up as the interventions as the project starts.

Phase 2 includes the interventions that can be done with minimal interference to the site. The reason for this is because if people start seeing changes that are better for them, they are more likely to be co-operative and welcoming to future interventions which might cause them slight inconveinces.

Phase 3 includes the interventions that need more time to be completed. The streets identified for blockage in phase 1 are blocked and the treatment of open spaces begins. It is in this phase that the social elements of the site start becoming its highlights.

In the final phase, all interventions are completed. The seating in social spaces is added as well as, and the mashrabiyas are added to the building. Wayfinding is added in the phase and not before because only after all the key elements are placed can the wayfinding icons be placed.

120 HOURS introduced a brand new competition format, where students are given 120 hours to solve a complex and socially relevant assignment. By addressing topical discussions in both public and architecture debate, the competition aims to be a contributor of new thoughts and discussions within both social and cultural discourse.

120 HOURS is an independent competition organized on a non-profit, voluntary basis without the involvement of a school administration. 120 aims to give students a voice in the current architectural discourse.

We partcipated in this competition for 3 years.
