Finding Your Style in a Season of Subtle Shifts
Embracing Personal Creativity Amid Fashion’s Familiar Trends
I recently heard a great tip on a favourite podcast: consider the cost per wear before investing in a pricier piece.
This is especially useful for staple items like neutral tees, jeans, skirts and work shoes. For example, I’ve been eyeing a wardrobe staple priced at $309 NZD. Knowing I’d wear it at least once or twice a week brings the cost down to $5.94 per wear over a year. If it lasts two years, that’s only $2.97 per wear, not a bad deal!
Although the initial cost might be higher, high-quality staples are designed for frequent use and can outlast cheaper alternatives. Quality over quantity is the way to go.
With capsule wardrobes trending, it’s clear that many of us want versatile, timeless pieces that make summer dressing effortless. Yet, I can’t help but feel that the fashion industry isn’t offering as much innovation as it used to.
It’s the perfect time to tap into our own creative juices and incorporate personal style into our wardrobes, especially since the brands aren’t leading the charge in fresh inspiration.
Personally, I think the best option at the moment is to invest in more expensive staples and use cheaper-priced accessories to add our own unique style.
With that in mind, what can we expect to see on the street and in the office?
Although New Zealand might not catch these right away, here’s what’s on the radar:
• Butter yellow: A soft, cheerful yellow that adds a touch of warmth.
• Denim for days: Denim is continuing to make a statement, but it’s nothing new.
• Sheer skirts: Elegant and edgy, though we’ve seen similar styles before.
• Athleisure: Athletic wear is evolving, but it’s more a continuation than a revolution.
• Bubble skirts and balloon sleeves: Playful silhouettes that add a whimsical vibe.
While the industry may not be bursting with new ideas, it’s a great time to redefine style on your own terms, as Model @lilhamblin does so well!
Embrace the pieces you love, get creative, and let your unique style shine. Challenge yourself to think of 3-4 different ways to style each item in your wardrobe. Consider how to wear it, what accessories to add, hairstyles, and more!
