Welcome to Riseley Sports as today we warmly welcome our opponents, Flitwick Town, to our home ground. We're looking forward to an exciting match and appreciate your support as we push for victory.

Last weekend was a tough one for us, as we faced challenging conditions and unfortunately lost 3-1 to Marston after taking an early 1-0 lead. It's never easy to swallow mistakes that lead to avoidable goals, but we've reflected on those moments and are determined to learn from them.

Our focus now shifts to getting back on track against Flitwick, who are in a similar position in the table. When we visited them earlier in the season, we secured a thrilling last-minute winner. This time around, let's hope for a less nerve-wracking game and aim to settle it well before the final whistle.

Looking ahead, we have a cup semi-final next week, and we want to approach it with confidence and momentum. A win today would be the perfect boost, so let's show the same resolve and determination that has helped us bounce back in recent weeks.

Needs to be a massive thanks you to David and Andrew for attempting to get the game on at Gold Street, unfortunately despite the best efforts the pitch conditions best them.

FROM THE BOARDROOM With Riseley Sports Chairperson David Balderstone

We extend a warm welcome to the players, coaches, officials and supporters of Flitwick Town Football Club. We had a narrow win at Flitwick earlier this season but although our visitors have been struggling at the wrong end of the league, they have been battling for every point with narrow defeats against high-flying Wootton Blue Cross and Queens Park Crescents in recent weeks. Let’s hope our team show the determination and application that has been evident in some good performances against teams competing at the top of the league since Christmas.

field a consistent team that is well-organised and plays to a clear plan. This is often the key to success at this level with only a few points between the teams below third in the league.

Although the result was disappointing, last week’s performance against a Marston side that now lead the division was encouraging. Younger players coming into the side continue to show the progress they are making in adapting to adult football. In heavy conditions that sapped energy and made passing difficult, we managed to put Marston under some pressure and led for over an hour. The difficult conditions contributed to unfortunate mistakes that allowed Marston to take the lead but the lads still managed to create some good chances to get something from the game.

Marston felt we had competed well and given them a tough game so were a little surprised by our position in the league. Speaking to some of their management team and committee members after the game, it was interesting to hear what they feel has contributed to their success this season. Having a reliable squad to select from has enabled them to

Today’s game is a good opportunity to prepare for next week’s semi-final and start building towards a successful end to the season. Several of our current squad have contributed towards a period of great success for the club from 2016 so we know they have the experience and desire to win to inspire those around them.

Flitwick Town Football Club, founded in 1957 and based in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, has a rich history within the local football community. The club has fielded multiple teams across various divisions, demonstrating a commitment to fostering local talent and promoting the sport at different levels.

A pinnacle of the club’s achievements came in the 2016–17 season when Flitwick Town was crowned the Premier Division champions of the Bedfordshire County Football League.

At today’s game Riseley Sports is showing its support for the Football v Homophobia campaign.

Football v Homophobia (FvH) takes place year round and the campaign has its Month of Action in February. It is an international campaign to tackle homophobia and prejudice against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) people in football. The aim of FvH is to make football safe andwelcoming for everyone.

Prejudice and discrimination in football affects us all, not just LGBT people. In fact a lot of the homophobic language and abuse that is directed at football players, managers, officials and fans, targets heterosexual people. This doesn’t mean that it’s OK. Using discriminatory language towards someone because you don’t like the way they play football, manage a team, make a refereeing decision or because of whom they support is wrong. It’s against the Laws of the Game and can be a criminal offense, but most importantly, it can make football an intimidating and unpleasant place for people.

In recent years, professional footballers Robbie Rogers and Thomas Hitzlsperger, both of whom played in England, publicly announced that they were gay. Both of these players have talked about the challenges of being gay men within professional football, and the impact that anti-gay jokes, language and chanting can have on confidence and self-esteem. Casey Stoney, former England Women’s Captain has also spoken out about her sexuality. Whilst she felt accepted within football circles, she has also spoken of her fears of being judged by the ‘outside world’ for being gay.

Football is changing, and more people are coming out in the professional game. But we still have some way to go to make sure that football is a welcoming sport for all sections of the community.

Throughout Football v Homophobia month and beyond, please help Riseley Sports by standing up to prejudice and discrimination against LGBT people in the game. Together we can make football a welcoming place for everyone.

yes it can do what a vice can do Sure, MicroLoc has vice-like jaws in which one clamping station might hold one part, and you can gang the jaws together to provide the equivalent of, say, an eight inch vice, and you can fit aluminium or steel soft jaws or vee-jaws......

But isn't that missing the point of MicroLoc?

no it’s more than a vice!

Use MicroLoc as a vice substitute if you wish, but that would be missing out on all the additional features that MicroLoc has to offer.

All MicroLoc baseplates have the facility to rotate clamping elements through 90 or 180 degrees, which will allow four-edge clamping of, for instance, a large mould, using exactly the same elements that, perhaps, yesterday you used to clamp a number of valve blocks, and which tomorrow you will use to grip a pair of long, round bars horizontally. All in accurate locations. So you can multi-part load, or mount one-offs, or a mixture of both, all with the same kit. That's versatility.

OK, so you need to buy a MicroLoc baseplate to enjoy the full versatility and accuracy of the system. (We don't insist on it. If you just wish to buy some clamps, that's fine.) But then you will probably want to be clamping at least six components at a time, and if you were using vices regularly these would really need to be mounted on a sub-table of some description, the cost of which redresses the balance somewhat in our favour.

LEGENDS & The History of Riseley Sports Football Club

Part 12 (2018/2019) The 2018/19 season marked Riseley Sports’ return to the Bedfordshire County League Premier Division, bringing both challenges and memorable moments.

Manager Nigel Rees strengthened his backroom staff by bringing in Paul Kane as assistant manager, aiming to guide the team through the step up in competition.

The campaign began in thrilling fashion with a 4-4 draw at Stevington, followed by a solid 3-0 win over Sharnbrook. However, the reality of Premier Division football soon set in, with some tough results against established sides. Despite this, Riseley showed their resilience, picking up key wins against AFC Oakley, Ickwell & Old Warden, and Queens Park Crescents.

LEGACIES .A strong run in early 2019, including a 5-1 victory over Ickwell, gave the team momentum heading into the final stretch. Although consistency proved a challenge, the squad did enough to secure a respectable 8th-place finish in the league table.

With their first season back under their belts and a solid foundation in place, Riseley Sports had taken an important step forward, setting the stage for future progress.

LEAGUE ROUND UP The Bedfordshire County Football League

By Peter Francis Saturday 15th February 2025 Marston Shelton Rovers now top the Premier Division supported by Sportsform standings.

Premier Division supported by Sportsform The leadership of the Premier Division supported by Sportsform league table is now in the hands of Marston Shelton Rovers who remain unbeaten on the road this season and in their last nine outings after winning 3-1 at Riseley Sports via a brace of goals from Luke Clifford and a strike from Justice Gittens. The Rovers moved three points clear of Wootton Blue Cross who lost their season's 100% away record when beaten 2-0 at third place AFC Oakley. The home goals coming via Joel Ives and Omojiseoluwa Bankole.

All the other four games were to go the way of the visitors with Totternhoe Reserves winning on the road for the first time in six outings with a 5-2 victory at Crawley Green Development.

Sam Hazel with a hat-trick and goals from Tyler Roe and Ben Andrews bringing up the nap hand against home replies via Ciaran Maher and Kyle Dilley Smith. Whilst Elstow Abbey returned to winning ways on the road with a 4-1 victory at Shefford Town & Campton Reserves.Glenn Tumulty with a brace plus goals from Marko Tobdzic and Craig Damon doing the damage with Luca Phillips replying for the Town.

Now unbeaten in their last five away outings are Queens Park Crescents who required just a goal from Hassen Yousaf to win 1-0 at Flitwick Town, whilst defending champions Caldecote won for the first time in seven league outings 3-0 at Biggleswade FC Reserves thanks to goals from Louie Clarke, Chris Faulkner and Tobi Omotosho.

Restoring the Surface After a Tough Game After a hard-fought match, the pitch often bears the scars of battle—mud, divots, and worn patches can quickly take their toll. Keeping the surface in top condition is crucial for player safety and ensuring the pitch remains playable throughout the season. Here’s how to repair the damage and get the ground back in shape.

1. Clear the Surface Before any repairs begin, remove any debris, such as loose grass, mud clumps, and broken turf. This prevents further damage and makes it easier to assess the extent of the wear.

2. Tread Down Divots Using a fork or a divot repair tool, gently lift and press down any displaced turf. If the divots are still attached, firm them back into place by stepping on them to encourage the grass to root again. For larger areas, a lawn roller can help smooth the surface.

3. Topdressing & Sanding For particularly muddy areas, apply a light layer of topsoil or sand to improve drainage and help level the pitch.

Sanding prevents water from pooling in worn patches and helps the turf recover faster.

4. Over-seeding Bare Areas If patches of grass have been completely worn away, spread grass seed over the area and lightly rake it into the soil. Adding a bit of compost or fertilizer can help speed up regrowth.

5. Aeration for Drainage Heavy use can lead to compacted soil, which affects drainage and grass health. Using a pitchfork or aeration machine to create small holes in the turf helps air, water, and nutrients reach the roots, promoting stronger growth.

6. Watering & Resting Giving the pitch a light watering after repairs can help settle the soil and encourage grass recovery. Where possible, try to rest the most damaged areas by rotating warm-ups and training sessions to less affected parts of the field.

With regular maintenance and a bit of care after each game, the pitch can stay in top condition all season, ensuring Riseley Sports continues to play on the best possible surface.
