Goodafternooneveryone,andwelcomebacktoGoldStreetaswehostBiggleswade United Reserves for the rescheduled match. It’s great to see everyone back home; it’sbeenawhilesinceourlastgamehereon15thFebruary.
Since then, we’ve had a mixed bag of results two wins, a single loss, and a heartwrenching penalty shootout defeat to Caldecote in the semi-final. Despite the disappointment,Icannotfaulttheimmenseeffortandspiritshownbythesquadin recentweeks.
Adaptingtoregularchangesinthestartingelevenhasbeennoeasytask Lastweek, we traveled to Biggleswade FC reserves with nine of our 16-man squad under the age of 18 a remarkable milestone, as it’s probably the youngest squad we’ve fielded in a long time. These young players stepped up brilliantly, proving our club hasabrightfutureahead
Aswepushintothefinalstretchoftheseason,wefaceachallengingrunoffixtures againstsomeoftheleague’stopteams.Butwe’veshowntimeandtimeagainthat we’re capable of competing with anyone, and this group has the determination to finishstrongly.

Inthepast,wehavehadsomegoodresultsagainst BiggleswadeUnitedReserves Webeatthemenroute towinningtheBedfordJuniorCharityCupin1989 andagainonthewaytowinningtheAubreyTingey Cupin1992 However,wedidnotenjoythesame successagainstUnited’sfirstteamwhenwewere promotedtothePremierDivisionin1995asthey wereontheirwaytowinningthetitleandsecuring promotiontotheSpartanLeaguewheretheynow compete.
Lastseason,itwasanexcitinghighscoringgame whichUnitedfoughtbacktowininthefinalminutes. Welookedtobeoncourseforvictoryhereinearly Decemberwhenthegamewas surprisinglyabandonedathalf-timewithusleading 1-0.
Althoughitwasdisappointingtoloseonpenaltiesin theBritanniaCupsemi-final,wewereallveryproud oftheteam’sperformance.Theteamwerenot intimidatedbythelargehomecrowdorbygoing behindafterleadinginthefirsthalf Theladsfought backwellanddominatedmostofthelast25minutes ofthegame Caldecotestruggledtocleararunof cornersinthefinalminutesbuttheballdidnot bouncekindlyforourforwards
Wehavenotbeenatfullstrengthoverthelasttwo weeksbutouryoungerplayershavesteppedupand takentheirchancestoimpressandtheexperienced playersledbyexample Lastweek’swinagainst BiggleswadeReservesliftedspiritsaswepreparefor thefinalpartoftheseasonwhichincludessometough gamesagainstteamschallengingatthetopofthe table

BiggleswadeUnitedF.C.hasastoried historythatreflectstheenduringpassion andresilienceofitsplayers,management, andsupporters.Establishedon16July1959, themodernclubhasitsrootsinaprevious incarnationthatdatesbacktothe1920s. Sinceitsreformation,theclubhas navigatedthechallengesoflocalfootball leaguesandbuiltalegacyofsuccessand communityengagement.
**EarlyYearsandLeagueStruggles** BiggleswadeUnitedbeganitsjourneyin DivisionThreeoftheNorthHertfordshire League(NHL)duringthe1959–60season. AfteradecadeintheNHL,theclubstepped uptotheSouthMidlandsLeague(SML)in 1969.However,thetransitionwas challenging,withthecluboftenfinishingin thebottomhalfofthetable.Persistent strugglesculminatedinseveralseasonsat thebottomofDivisionOne,promptinga movetoDivisionTwooftheHertfordshire SeniorCountyLeagueinthemid-1980s.
Asignificantturningpointcamein1986 whentheclubjoinedtheBedford&District League.TheappointmentofBrianSwords asfirst-teammanagerinthe1987–88 seasonmarkedthebeginningofa remarkableperiodofsuccess.Underhis leadership,BiggleswadeUnitedwonthe AubreyTingeyMemorialCupin1988–89, followedbyDivisionTwoandDiamond JubileeCuptriumphsin1990–91.The momentumcontinuedwithaDivisionOne championshipin1991–92andthree BritanniaCupvictories
startingin1993–94 Thecrowning achievementcamewithback-to-back PremierDivisiontitlesin1994–95and1995–96,leadingtopromotionbacktoDivision OneoftheSML
BiggleswadeUnited'sreturntotheSMLwas markedbyimmediatesuccess,winning DivisionOneandtheDivisionOneCupin theirfirstseason.Thissuccessgranted themaplaceintheSeniorDivisionofthe newlyformedSpartanSouthMidlands League.Theearly2000sbroughtmore silverware,includingtheBedfordshire SeniorCupin2001–02andtheBedfordshire SeniorTrophyin2003–04.Athird-place finishin2004–05securedpromotiontothe PremierDivision,andtheclubwonthe SeniorCupagainthefollowingseason.
Inlate2014,Spanishfootballjournalist GuillemBalaguébecametheclub'sDirector ofFootball,bringingaprofessionaltouch andinternationalinfluence.Hisinvolvement ledtothesigningofnotableplayers, includingformerEspanyolandChelsea midfielderEnriquedeLucas.Theclub's fortunesfluctuated,buttheycontinuedto pushforsuccess,achievingtheirhighest leaguepositionin2020–21underthe managementofCristianColas

Despitethechallengesposedbythe COVID-19pandemicandleague reorganizations,BiggleswadeUnitedhas remainedresilient.Theclubfacedalateral movetotheUhlsportUnitedCounties Leaguein2021butsecuredtheirplacein Step5football Theyhavesincebeen reinstatedtotheSpartanSouthMidlands League,aimingtoreturntotheirformer glory Recentseasonshaveseennotable successes,includingtheirbest-everFA Vaserun.

Theperiodfrom2019to2021wasoneofchange,challenge,andultimatelyperseveranceforRiseley SportsFC.Theclubfacedmanagerialshifts,aglobalpandemic,andleaguedisruptions,yet continuedtobattlethroughadversity,showcasingtheresiliencethatdefinesgrassrootsfootball.
The2019/20seasonwascutshortduetotheCOVID-19pandemic,bringinganabruptendtoNigel Rees’tenureasmanager Reeshadservedtheclubwithdistinction,andhisdeparturemarkedthe conclusionofasignificantchapterinRiseleySports’history Withfootballatastandstill,theclub preparedforanewdirectionunderincomingmanagerPaulKane,whowastaskedwithnavigatingan uncertainfootballinglandscape.
UnderPaulKane’sleadership,withJamesWoolfasassistantmanager,the2020/21seasonwas anythingbutnormal DuetoongoingCOVID-19disruptions,theBedfordshireCountyLeagueseason wasultimatelydeclarednullandvoid.However,RiseleySportsdidparticipateintheSupplementary Cup,whereresultsweremixed.Theteamshowedflashesofpromisebutultimatelystruggledfor consistency.Withanotherdisruptedseason,thechallengeofrebuildingfor2021/22loomedlarge. 135 Years

Foundedin2010,Non-LeagueDayisanannualeventdesignedtoshineaspotlightonfootball outsidethetopprofessionaldivisions.Scheduledduringaninternationalbreak,whenthe PremierLeagueandChampionshiptakeapause,itencouragesfansofbiggerclubstovisit theirlocalnon-leaguesidesandexperiencethemagicofgrassrootsfootball
