I would like to work on different-challenging tasks which may emerge during the development of a design. l'll never disappoint the team & devote myself wholly to the work assigned and accomplish it successfully. I've a decent experience on working in projects like residential, commercial, instituitional, and so forth. I've learnt as much as possible in the office workflows during my intern career on an well established firms. I've been exposed to client engagements, site visits & co-ordinations.

El Lissitzky's visionary design of the horizontal skyscrapers called cloudhangers in 1923 marked the major beginning of rethinking urban design and understanding the high-rise as a building typology. Inspired by this, the residential complex design reinvent the skyscrapers within the third dimension.

Before the formal architectural design, a series of conceptual and schematic ideas are built up to form the distinct language for the latter specific skyscraper design.

Site Analysis The site is located in mid-town St. Louis at 3700 Forest Park Ave in the newly developed City Foundry STL with various local food halls, commercial and event spaces and entertainment facilities. The Horizontal Skyscraper is a destination to new cultural and social scene in St. Louis by becoming an urban regenerator that connects the fragmented city into a dynamic center. This is an urban marker and a threshold to the heart of mid-town St. Louis between Central West End and Grand Center.

Residential Complex | Horizontal Skyscraper | Transformative Exploration When people driving on the lifted highway, they experience the transitional perspectives of the complex. At first, they see the shorter facade that contains the four storeys of parking at the bottom, the vertical traffic core, and the lifted residences. Afterwards, they see some diagonal-placed volumes that hold communal spaces and activities, including some exterior ramps and structures.

On the Nineth Floor, there are 27 residential units, including 9 studio units, 9 1B1B units, and 9 2B2B units. 5 Atriums are placed through the whole building for natural light and ventilation. Some public spaces, like gym, swimming pools, an outdoor courtyard, lounges, and cafe bars, are surrounding these units for service anytime.

Ground Floor Plan At the bottom of the residential complex, there are four storeys of parking areas for the residents and the visitors, enclosing a central courtyard. 7 vertical traffic cores going up lead people to the upper programs. There are 135 parking spots on each floor, and 540 in total.

Space and Learning in Contemporary Elementary Education Spring 2021 Location: Chicago, IL

The design of a Montessori school focuses on designing the contemporary elementary education where the children learn by doing it themselves.

They are guided to learn that is self-chosen and founded upon individual interest [leads to] the development of a complete human being, oriented to the environment, and adapted to his or her time, place and culture.

The project is progressing within two phases: the first is the carving the classroom, focusing on the abstract cubical space with greenhouse for kids at various ages. The second phase focuses on the aggregation of the five classrooms with a communal piazza and the topo and layout of the scenery landscape.

The Montessori classroom is constructed by carving and repositioning the given half-cube mass within the given cubic interior void. The classroom is occupied by 24 students, aged 5 to 6, and two teachers. There are six key components of the Montessori classroom or environment, as defined by Maria Montessori,

Freedom, structure and order, reality and nature, beauty, and an atmosphere that encourages a positive and spontaneous response to life, the montessori equipment, community life, the froebel geometries, the primary spatial types.

Starting with Space To begin with, a cubic interior void measuring 33 feet x 33 feet x 33 feet is experimented. The edges of this cubic interior void are to be aligned with the cardinal directions. Sunlight can strike the cubic interior void on its east, south and upper/top surfaces; no sunlight strikes the west, north and lower/bottom surfaces of the cubic interior void.

As the interior definition of the program, Adrian Stokes is referenced: When conceiving and designing architectural space, it may be more appropriate to carve (subtractive) than to model (additive).

Project 2: Etching the Earth – Concrete DATUM Art + Architecture At its beginning, Modernism was understood by its exponents to span, integrate and engage all the arts.

Yet this pattern of relation and influence of painting and architecture was largely lost in both the typical implementations and canonical interpretations of Moder n architecture in the latter half of the 20th centur y, and today this tradition is almost entirely forgotten even as it is being edited out of new histories of Modern architecture.

Project 2 is an effort to bring this tradition of the activated planes of painting inspiring the inhabited surfaces of architecture back into focus, and to re-engage the tradition where concepts of space, order and perception originating in Modern painting have been engaged in the design of Modern architecture. Inspired by the painting, the design engages and inhabit the entire surface of the given Datum plane with the given program of the Montessori School.

Linear exterior entry, with benches for rest, leads the kids from the bus station to the communal piazza.

Conceptual Top View Following the original physical condition, the topog raphy of the whole site is a slight slope g oing down from west to east. To be specific, the grassland and playground of each classroom is also gradually lowered so that the water at the southmost can be g athered to the polyporous pond system in the southeaster n cor ner. Meanwhile, because young er kids have the higher grasslands, they can have the same level eye contact with older kids even though they are shorter.

Five classrooms each has its own outdoor grassland where kids take care of their plants and have fun. They have a public pond and a forest.

Samara, also known as the John E. Christian House, is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright located in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The home is an example of the Usonian homes that Wright designed.

This project researches and redraws the integral building condition and the details Wright conceived as well. After that, new architectural spaces of new programs are brought up to give Samara rebirth.

The color palette of furniture and design details is brighter and more saturated than other examples of Wright's architecture. This was prompted by Kay Christian who requested brighter colors against Wright's wishes. The result was a palette of vibrant lime green, magenta, and purple combined with more subdued shades of orange, yellow, and beige.

The Winged Seed As in many of the homes he designed, Wright specified or designed the entire environment, including the furniture, linens and landscaping. He worked a stylized design of chevron-shaped leaves throughout the design of the home including the clerestory windows, dining chairs and the living room rug. These designs, nicknamed The Winged Seed, are located on the perforated upper windows and were also used on the Bachman-Wilson Usonian home.

Since people in this area do not have any swimming facilities, the ideas from the local bathing history to set up a small-scale natatorium came up, to attract visitors to stay, observe, and relax around the Samara House. To start with, the concept was originally extracted from the Winged Seed Motif of Samara House. The newly designed buiding is formulated by the direction of the Wright work and also the boundries of the entire site.

Amalgamated Dwelling| Edges of Privacy | Tropical Context Fall 2019 Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico

This project is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Since the climate there is tropical: hot, oppressive, windy, and partly cloudy, the design of this amalgamated dwelling is focused to decrease the sunlight heat, to allow the maximum ventilation, and to keep the residents' privacy in the meanwhile.

Based on that, a new spatial concept: threshold, is created to solve all these problems. The in- between threshold is multiple-layered to prolong the distance for entering the unit, so that direct sunlight to the interior can be reduced, the experiences of the residents can be manifold, and the edges of privacy can be categorized. In this context, the unique units with layered- threshold and patios are amalgamated surrounding a central courtyard. The community then comes into being.

Threshold Drawing Site Analysis The site is located in San Juan, which is a typical tropical city. The ventilation and sunshade are the considerable design elements.

As the direct sunlight may trigger great heat, most residences here have cantilevered patios or roofs for sunshading. Besides, they use louvers instead of glass to prevent greenhouse effect.

To start with, the design is conceived from the threshold scale to the unit scale, and then to the aggregation scale. As for the threshold, an in-between space is called out between the communal walkway to the interior unit.

In this image. The foreground is the Livingroom with a cozy couch. since the wood grille panel is closer, people sitting here can observe passersby though the holes of the grating door while hidden under the height of the solid panel. The mid-shot gives to the kitchen and the dining table. The cook can look outside while he is cooking. The background is the half door with sliding panels accumulated in the corners. That's the entry for this unit, which provide security but also invitation to their neighbors. The most far-away wood vertical hanging is defining a private phycological boundary for passersby, which indicates this is someone else's realm.

View from the Half Wall to the Courtyard Typical Unit The typical unit has a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room in the middle, three bedrooms and a smaller rec room in the four corners. The darker the color of the floor tiles, the more private the space will be. The two rooms close to the walkway have voids in-between, which ensures privacy but also provides visual connection between passersby and residents to some extent. * Two units may share a void for ventilation.

Hidden in the shadows of the walkway, the unit owner readily sits on the half wall talking to their neighbors, watering the plants, and looking at the units on the other side of the courtyard.

Ground Floor Plan

The programs of the ground floor are communal offices, and a bookstore, which sit in the southwestern and northeastern two corners. The two voids at the other two corners are the freely organized market.

The site is located near a sightseeing road with giant trees on the both sides in San Juan. There are some residential , historical, governmental, cultural and commercial buildings in this area. The darker the blocks are, the privater this area will be, vice versa.

Besides, there is a main entry hall on the east side with a leasing office, mail boxes, and bike parking, and another residence entry in the southwestern building. Only residents have the key to these two entrances that allow them to go up. Also, there are two stairs attached to the inner walkways facing the central courtyard.

Typical Floor Plan The ground floor of the aggregation is zoned as commercial offices and a bookstore, while the other upper three floors are all zoned as residential. In the typical floor plan, there are 10 units in total, which can be divided into 5 various types. The four in the center share the step-back voids in pairs, while the two regular units in the east and west have their own open- air spaces in- between the walkways and the units themselves.

The four units with diagonal layouts in the corners, they vary from others for the need of ventilation from the courtyard to the outside air. But in general, they still embrace the same design logic as the other typical units, for instance, the central in- between transitional layered- spaces between the kitchen and the living room

Here is the final threshold model of a typical unit. In the blurred foreground, there is a living room with dispersed couches and chairs. With double- layered screens, the in- between hallway seperates but also connects the living room with the dining room as well as the kitchen, which is shown in the mid-shot. The light penetrates through the louvers of the openings on the half wall and cast shadows on the interior walls and the sink. The half door is open to the walkway where neighbors can have a small chat with the owners. In the blurred background, the units and walkways on the other side of the central courtyard is shown.

St. Louis has an intriguing history of water architecture. The bathhouse, in response to a lack of indoor plumbing and public health, gradually diminished inpopularity and use. More waterbased architecture springs out afterwards depending on the masses' social need. The history of water-based architecture featured by water associated history in St. Louis and examine the rule of today's aquatic architecture. The citizens in Saint Louis are to be "immersed" physically and mentally in this natatorium.

The site is located at Saint Louis University South Campus, it is surrounded by the Chouteau Ave, the Ranken Ave, the Lasalle St, and the Virginia Ave. It is 359' long in the west east orientation and 250" in the north south direction. The entire size of the site is 89750 sqft. Currently it is a vacant grassland. On the west and east area, there are another two tiny green parks, while on the southern side, there lies the SLU Medical Center Stadium which is quite appropriate for swimming programs for general considerations.

Other Works 1 Zero from the Past

Fall 2018, Location: Beijing, China

Cities without cultural support are producing homogenous 'glassy boxs' across the whole globe. Since the implementation of reform and open policy, China, requiring rapid urban construction, had to copy western countries" design methodology, scientific techniques, spatial layout Such homogenization triggers a giant gap between architecture and Chinese culture.

As the scandal goes, Beijing, teeming with chaotic glassy boxes, has become a capital architecture lab.

However, Beijing has formed long-standing city fabric since several thousand years, which loads the masses" original memory. To illustrate, China is looking forward to having a high-rise engaged with its own cultural logic.Therefore, for this high-rise design, I sorted out the logic of Chinese culture in the urban and architectural fields from dynasties to today. I extracted the "nine-rectangle-grid" as the archetype, and under the background of "yin and yang" philosophy which best represents Chinese culture, the different functions of "nine-rectangle-grid" were defined by means of program coding, thus producing a High-rise projected from Chinese original cultural system.

Architecture is a kind of creature. Mangrove- a creature needs conservation. Mangrove Guard- A creature devoted all themselves in saving mangrove.

How could we manage the relationship among these three creatures? A new system showing the respect to these three creatures needs to be designed.

DIGITAL FABRICATION The Knight Templar Jupon has the concept from the spine of the mysterious dragon.

Each unit of the 'spine' is modeled, lasercut, melted, formalized, and then cooled down. The joints between these units are modeled and 3D-print with holes in both ends. Afterwards, these units are connected by transluscent tubes and wires linearly and the linear pieces are connected by the white joints to form the entire system. This design tried to utilize human body as a site and create a unique language across other deciplines.
