Welcome to Rio. Rio Lindo Adventist Academy is a coeducational, boarding/day high school owned and operated by the Northern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. As a Christian school, Rio has developed a school program grounded on the principles of loving God and serving others. Founded in 1962, Rio is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and provides an enriched, college preparatory curriculum with numerous elective classes, allowing you to pursue a wide variety of interests. Rio’s greatest asset is the school family that you join when you attend. Students from diverse backgrounds work, study, worship, and socialize together, creating lasting relationships unique to a boarding school experience.

Most students log more than the required 25 hours per year of community service required for graduation. You will have opportunities to volunteer both in our local communities, abroad, and during Rio’s Community Service days. Attending Rio is your passport to a greater understanding of other cultures. With students from more than 10 different countries, Rio’s student body is rich with cultures and various life experiences. Creating multicultural awareness and inclusion helps our students succeed and encourages empathy while preparing them to thrive in an exponentially diverse world.
Rio’s active campus is filled with leadership opportunities. Whether it’s serving other students as an officer of the Student Association, or leading a worship music group, Rio’s atmosphere allows students to learn by leading. In the dorms, Residents Assistants and other leaders offer help, support, and Bible studies to students. On the field, students lead each other in football, soccer, and other sports. Students regularly speak for church, vespers, and during Week of Prayer, testifying to what God is doing in their lives. Rio students also learn leadership skills and responsibility through the work program. Most students work between 8 to 12 hours each week, contributing to their tuition as well as gaining valuable work experience. Rio is a place where learning never stops and where exploration is encouraged. Students enter as children, but leave as adults, prepared for their next adventure - in college and in life. “Going to Rio is great because it helps you grow. Rio brought out leadership skills in me that I did not even know I had.” — Joyleen Mabika, Class of 2016
