Issue 27

MAINBEAM OSRAM Facts of Light! Vehicle lighting if often taken for granted. Just turn the ignition on and flip the switch and the road stretches ahead in gloriously lit detail. But did you know that vehicle lighting will gradually grow dimmer over time? In fact, from the day they are fitted, some car lights will have lost up to 30% of their brightness after just 500 hours of use. OSRAM suggest following 3 simple ‘Facts of Light’ ensuring you and your customers stay safe this winter.

3 Check

3 Change

The light produced from headlights deteriorates over time, which means the quality of the light on the road ahead declines. As a result, the distance you can see at night decreases and the clarity of the world around us gets dimmer. It’s always advisable to check bulbs regularly, before they burn out!

A car (or any vehicle for that matter) is designed so that it works best when both headlights are functioning equally. Only then will the driver get the full advantage of the combined headlight beam on the road ahead.

Just like your favourite sports team, car headlights can also let us down! Don't let a burnt-out headlight bulb spoil a driving experience. Many drivers will only replace a bulb once it has failed completely, but this is a mistake.

Most people only replace one broken or burnt-out bulb; but just like socks and shoes, headlight bulbs are always better changed in pairs. Replacing just one failed bulb can result in an unbalanced or unpredictable headlight beam that can cause serious hazards for drivers and other road users.

3 Upgrade

Just like a show-stopping mullet, old car bulbs aren't going to come back into fashion. Changing a failed or faulty bulb is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the most recent innovations in car lighting technology. Even if drivers have an older model car, many advanced lighting solutions are available as aftermarket retrofit products. The easiest way to upgrade headlights to whiter, brighter light is to fit award-winning NIGHT BREAKER® LASER. As a like-forlike replacement of standard halogen bulbs it means drivers can switch old bulbs for new ones that offer up to 150% more brightness, produce a beam that reaches up to 150 metres and is 20% whiter.
