2024/25

Dear Ridley Community,
Welcome to the 2025 Ridley College Impact Report. As we reflect on the past school year, I am filled with gratitude for the achievements and success of our community — students, staff, parents and alumni. As you will read, Ridley’s success continues to be grounded in community engagement, a laser-like focus on the student experience and the unwavering support of our donors. Your generosity has been instrumental in enabling us to enhance our important work here at Ridley. As you know, at Ridley, our mission is to inspire flourishing lives, and two essential characteristics of a flourishing life include giving and gratitude.
Philanthropy plays a crucial role in enhancing the student experience, and it has shaped our School into the extraordinary place it is today. Beyond tuition revenue, independent schools like Ridley rely on philanthropy to enhance Ridley experience — it is through your support that we are able to bridge the gap. The generous support of our donors has an immense impact on the student experience at Ridley. Whether it is scholarships and bursaries, new equipment, professional development for our faculty or facilities upgrades, your support allows us to shape the lives of every young Ridleian who enters the Marriott Gates.
Thank you for helping us drive our mission and vision forward. Your support empowers us to nurture the potential of every student, fostering a community of excellence, innovation and compassion.
With heartfelt appreciation,
J. Edward Kidd Headmaster

Dear Ridley Community,
As I conclude my first year as Chair of the Board, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve this remarkable school. Attending my first graduation ceremony was deeply inspiring. Watching our students cross the stage, their faces lit with pride and joy, filled me with admiration. It was a powerful reminder of the dedication, care and passion that brought them to this moment — thanks to our outstanding faculty, staff and the broader Ridley community. We send our warmest wishes to the 127 graduates of the Class of 2025, confident that their connection to Ridley will endure for a lifetime.
This past year, Ridley achieved several important milestones. At the heart of our success is the commitment of our leadership team, faculty and staff. On behalf of the Board of Governors, I extend sincere thanks for their unwavering dedication. I am also profoundly grateful to my fellow Board members for their generous volunteerism and thoughtful stewardship, and to the entire Ridley community for your ongoing support, involvement and belief in our shared mission.
Building on the momentum of our recent capital campaign, we are reminded of the transformative power of community support. Philanthropy remains essential to our continued growth and to solidifying Ridley’s standing as one of the world’s leading independent boarding schools. In an increasingly complex global landscape, we are committed to remaining innovative, distinctive and forward-thinking — equipping our students with the tools to succeed in a dynamic world.
This year saw the exciting reopening of the Iggulden Building, now home to the Mitchell Learning Commons, the Ron Mannix & Class of ’66 Music Centre, the Paterson Performance Centre, the Leggat Art Gallery, the Gould Ivey Boardroom and more — spaces made possible by the generosity of our alumni and donors. These facilities foster collaboration, creativity and discovery, enriching both academic and extracurricular life on campus.
Equally transformative is the new Evans Athletic Centre, a purpose-built facility designed to support Ridley’s commitment to student wellness and performance. It houses a thoughtfully equipped fitness

centre, the Susan Hazell Spin Room, a zen yoga studio and exceptional change rooms. Also within the centre is the state-of-the-art Jack Aylott Squash Centre — an impressive addition that elevates our athletic programming and offers students and teams a premier training environment. These world-class indoor spaces are complemented by the new McKeough Common, our vibrant outdoor hub designed to foster connection, activity and school spirit. Together, these enhancements reflect Ridley’s ongoing dedication to providing exceptional facilities that enrich the student experience and strengthen our community for generations to come.
From campus developments to student success stories and the many memorable events of the year, each milestone reaffirms the truly exemplary educational experience Ridley offers.
To our donors, alumni and community members — thank you. Your generosity and belief in Ridley fuel our
progress and ensure that innovation, opportunity and excellence remain at the heart of everything we do.
As we look to the future, I am filled with optimism and respect for the foundation built by those who came before us. Together, we will continue to grow, innovate and differentiate, nurturing a community grounded in leadership, creativity and achievement. I invite each of you to stay engaged, support our vision and be active participants in Ridley’s exciting journey ahead.
Let us embrace this new year with purpose and possibility — celebrating the joy of learning, the strength of our community and the extraordinary potential of our students and visionaries who continue to shape Ridley’s story.
With warmest regards,

Each year, the graduating class participates in the time-honoured tradition of supporting their class gift. This is an opportunity for the class to come together and raise funds to establish their Class Bursary or support another meaningful project at the school.
This year was no exception as our GRADitude Fund Committee members encouraged their classmates to donate $20.25 to their Class Bursary.
The goal of a Class Bursary is to create a fund for the class to grow gradually, making it possible for future students to attend Ridley through tuition assistance. The Class of 2025 successfully raised $4,195.75 to seed their Class Bursary. The Canadian Foundation also made a gift of $2,500 to support the newly created Class of 2025 bursary.

The Ridley College Family Guild continues to be a cornerstone of our school community, thanks to the dedication of its volunteers. From executive members to event chairs, Class and House representatives, these individuals gave their time and energy generously to foster connection and belonging across campus. Their efforts in 2024/25 helped create a warm, inclusive environment where families could engage meaningfully with one another and with the School.
The year began with the Family Mentor Programme during Welcome to Ridley Days, where volunteers greeted hundreds of new families and helped them settle into the Ridley experience. At the same time, the Recycled Uniform Programme launched with strong early sales, offering families affordable options while supporting the Guild’s fundraising goals.
Throughout the fall, Guild members organized a series of well-loved events, including the Homecoming BBQ and Designer Purse Bingo. November 2024 saw the return of the Ridley College Family Guild Christmas Market, the first since 2019. This two-day event welcomed more than 1,000 visitors, exceeded revenue expectations and featured student-led House fundraisers and musical performances that showcased Ridley’s collaborative spirit.
In the winter and spring, the Guild sponsored a reception following the Nine Lessons and Carols service, hosted a volunteer appreciation dinner and introduced a new Paint and Sip social evening that welcomed many new parents. April was especially active, with volunteers supporting the Cadet Ball and Parade, organizing an herb giveaway for faculty and staff, and hosting the annual Trivia Night fundraiser.
Each of these initiatives was made possible by the commitment and care of our parent and guardian community. Their contributions have strengthened the fabric of Ridley life and left a lasting impact. We are deeply grateful for their continued support and look forward to building on this momentum in the coming years.

THE RIDLEY LEGACY GALA 2024:
A MILESTONE CELEBRATION OF TRANSFORMATION, COMMUNITY AND LEGACY

$140,685 RAISED 750 ATTENDEES
The evening of September 28th unfolded beautifully, though the weather might have had other plans earlier in the day. Warm air lingered as the rain clouds graciously cleared just in time. With spirits lifted and the courtyard dry, cocktails in the open air became a delightful prelude to the evening’s festivities. The combination of glowing smiles, shared laughter and the warm ambiance made it feel as though the weather itself had joined in the celebration, holding off just long enough to set the perfect tone for the night.
750 members of the Ridley College community gathered to celebrate an extraordinary occasion: the Ridley Legacy Gala 2024. This sold-out event was not only the largest celebration in the School’s history but also a cornerstone moment, marking the completion of a remarkable transformation at Ridley. The renovation and construction of the School’s new facilities were on full display, showcasing the incredible strides Ridley has taken to support the next generation of students and legacy builders.
The gala was a celebration of both legacy and progress, setting the stage for the future while honouring the enduring bonds of the Ridley community. Guests had the opportunity to explore the stunning new facilities on campus, reconnect with old friends and forge new connections in an atmosphere you can only find at Ridley. The energy in the room was palpable all evening as stories and laughter filled the air — a true reflection of the vibrant spirit of the school.
The evening featured several unforgettable moments. Student performances by Gioia Bonifacio-Proietto ’25 and Shakeela Vahdat ’25 were highlights, captivating the audience with their talent and enthusiasm. Adding to the excitement, alumna Stazzie Appleyard ’03 made a special guest appearance, treating attendees to a performance that perfectly blended the energy and celebration of the evening.
In the spirit of continuing traditions and building legacies, the evening also included the surprise unveiling of a new “Hank Tank.” Hidden behind pipe and drape in the Fieldhouse, the unveiling was a symbolic nod to Ridley’s commitment to fostering school spirit and strengthening its cherished traditions.
As co-chairs, we would be remiss not to express our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated gala committee, Ridley staff, our generous sponsors and auction contributors. It is only appropriate to acknowledge those supporters for making the evening a true success:
The support and leadership from Ridley’s development office were uniquely invaluable, providing professionalism and guidance throughout the planning process. Kory Lippert, Jennifer Roberge and team — we are deeply grateful for the unwavering dedication and collaboration you bring.
Without these supporters’ passion, expertise and tireless efforts, this milestone event would not have been possible. Their commitment to excellence ensured that every detail of the evening —from event sponsors to logistics to execution — was handled with precision and care.
This gala was more than just a celebration—it was a milestone in Ridley’s journey and a benchmark for future events. It brought together the community in an unprecedented way, reaffirming the strength of our connections and the shared pride we hold in the School’s legacy.
Organizing an event of this magnitude, particularly during association weekend alongside a full slate of activities, was remarkable. As all Ridleians know, success comes when everyone works together. The teamwork and unity displayed by all involved exemplify the best of what it means to be part of the Ridley family.
The Ridley Legacy Gala embodied the spirit of our community — vibrant, connected and forward-looking. As we reflect on this extraordinary celebration, we look ahead to the future with hope and determination, continuing to build upon the foundation of Ridley’s remarkable transformation.
Only a school with the calibre of a community like Ridley can build such a legacy. Through events like this, we showcase the strength of our bonds and the promise of our future. Together, we carry the banner forward in who we are and what we do.

With pride and admiration — thank you all again, Scott Snowden ’97 and Suzanne Court ’86 Co-Chairs of the Legacy Gala

“May I Be Consumed in Service” is more than just a motto; it’s a way of life. All students from JK to Grade 12 have many opportunities to contribute to the lives of others and serve the community through volunteering and taking action.
1. Reducing Food Waste
Our food service provider, Aramark, donates unused food and pre-portioned hot meals to Community Care before long weekends. This initiative was started by a group of Grade 10 students who researched local community needs and food waste at Ridley.
2. International Women’s Day
The Ridley Women in Leadership Club hosted an interactive Women’s Day booth outside the Great Hall with trivia about the history of women at Ridley and an interactive photo booth to spread positivity to all those who stopped by.
3. Ridley Girls in Squash
Caitlin Ng ’25 organized the inaugural Ridley Girls in Squash event in the Jack Aylott Squash Centre. This initiative provided a unique opportunity for girls in Grades 4–6 to develop their skills and connect with peers, inspiring the next generation of players.
4. RWIL Club Shoebox Project
The Ridley Women in Leadership (RWIL) Club collected donations for the Shoebox Project for Women. This project fills boxes with essentials for women experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Niagara.
5. Overnight Remembrance Vigil
Our Cadets participated in an overnight Vigil, standing guard at the Second World War Memorial Arches. Their unwavering dedication and respect throughout the night served as a powerful tribute to those who sacrificed for our freedom.
6. The Coldest Night of the Year
Students braved the cold and represented Ridley well in The Coldest Night of the Year walk in support of Start Me Up Niagara, raising $1,650 for unhoused individuals in Niagara.
7. Student Commitment to Sustainability
Upper School students were actively engaged in our School’s commitment to sustainability. From tackling invasive species like Phragmites in our area to volunteering at the CITY Serve HUB, students worked to protect local ecosystems and reduce waste.
8. Kindness Market
Over 70 students in Grades 3–6 were invited to select a local charity of their choice to support through the collection of donations or the selling of handmade items to raise funds.
9. Stockings for Seniors
Faith Kennedy ’31 organized her very own Stockings for Seniors fundraiser to bring joy to seniors living alone or in care homes in St. Catharines and the Niagara Region.

To instill an appreciation for service to others into our boarding culture and support our ethos, each House selects a charity or cause to raise funds and awareness for each year. Students plan and participate in events on campus and in the community to support their House charity.

Carrying on a tradition that began in 2017, a group of Ridley students and chaperones journeyed over 13,000 kilometres to Malawi, Africa. During their week at the Jacaranda School, they participated in classes and activities, immersed themselves in the local culture and formed lasting friendships with the inspiring children of Malawi. Ridley faculty member, Mr. Burke, also led a workshop where Ridley and Jacaranda students teamed up to assemble prosthetic hands for those in need.

Students spent two weeks contributing to impactful projects such as environmental conservation, animal rescue and community development.
They helped TerraCycle keep Bangkok’s canals clean, participated in beach clean-ups in Khao Lak and Phuket, supported sea turtle, elephant and gibbon rehabilitation, and worked with local organizations like Days for Girls to assemble sustainable feminine hygiene kits and Chiang Mai Rescue Kitchen to cook and serve meals to hundreds of villagers. Students also had the opportunity to experience Thailand’s rich culture, exploring markets, temples and beautiful landscapes.

Ridley students had the privilege of serving the people of Guatemala in partnership with DIG and the Doppenberg family, marking the 10th anniversary of our service trips to this incredible country! Students worked in remote Mayan villages, installing smokeless stoves to improve health and living conditions, while also addressing medical needs. This trip provided a meaningful opportunity to positively impact local families while fostering a deeper sense of empathy and understanding among our students.

THE 2024/25 RIDLEIAN FUND

Thanks to donations this past year, our new and returning students for 2025/26 have been greeted by improvements to our campus infrastructure.
Over the summer, the brand-new Tiger Court took shape between the Middle School and Iggulden Building. This outdoor court has been created for all students to gather and play.
The second phase of our Masters Way improvements has been completed. The former roadway has been transformed into a stunning pedestrian thoroughfare. Additional garden spaces and seating have been added to enhance the beauty of the space. This pathway provides students with a safe space to gather and travel through campus.
This new pathway connecting the north and south sides of campus will provide students with a safe walking environment throughout the year and further increase the connection between the Upper, Lower and Middle Schools.

Contributions to the Headmaster’s Fund supported many projects throughout the year, including the transformational work on our Front Circle. New pavers have replaced crumbling brick, and additional gardens and seating have been added. The space serves as the heart of campus, and these improvements will ensure that it will be beautiful and functional for years to come.
Additional projects recently supported by the Headmaster’s fund include: new musical instruments, new arts equipment, new athletic equipment, special tuition assistance and funding for the Lower School bike programme.
“Ridley has truly given me the chance to flourish in different areas. I am finding my passions and learning what it is that I most enjoy.”

Born and raised in Afghanistan, Asmat faced significant challenges, but his journey to Ridley College is a remarkable story of resilience and determination. In 2016, he left his home to attend a military boarding school in San Diego, California. Due to unforeseen circumstances the following year, he had to leave the United States. He was faced with two options: return home to a potentially dangerous situation in Afghanistan or cross into Canada with the hopes of being granted refugee status and eventually permanent residence.
That summer was spent in lawyers’ offices, legal aid clinics and courthouses, all as a 16-year-old with no family in Canada. In August 2017, a mentor connected him with Headmaster Kidd, and he was able to interview and tour Ridley’s iconic campus. A few weeks later, just after the start of the school year, Mr. Kidd offered Asmat a scholarship to attend Ridley College.
He dove right in to make the most of his time at Ridley and quickly embraced the opportunities available. He joined the Model UN club, Cadets and the rowing team — despite not knowing what rowing was when he joined.
Asmat’s dedication to service was evident in his efforts; while at Ridley, he started a programme to help migrant workers in Niagara learn English. His leadership skills shone through as he became a Prefect and the commander of the Cadet Corps in his Grade 12 year.
After graduating from Ridley, Asmat continued his academic journey at Huron University, earning a full scholarship and double-majoring in finance and governance. Today, he works as an analyst in mergers and acquisitions at Spearhead Corporate Development in Toronto, a role that allows him to apply the skills and knowledge he gained throughout his education. He credits Ridley College and the tuition assistance programme for helping him get to where he is today and opening doors he didn’t think were possible.
Growing up in a small rural village in Uganda, attending school was not always a certainty. Nantume grew up with her father and five brothers, but unfortunately, in 2019, her family could no longer afford tuition fees. The first time she saw her father cry was when she was rejected from schooling in Uganda due to a lack of funds.
Nantume’s path to Ridley was anything but straightforward. A breakthrough in her situation came when a family friend suggested applying for a scholarship to an international school in China. Her family stayed hopeful, and she was awarded the scholarship, attending classes online during the COVID-19 pandemic. This opportunity was lifechanging for her, and it was during this time that she found a mentor, continued her formal education and started a foundation to support girls in her village struggling with period poverty — a term used to describe girls and women who do not have access to basic feminine hygiene or menstrual products.
Through Ridley’s Tuition Assistance Programme, Nantume was able to continue her education at Ridley in 2023. The stability provided by the scholarship allowed her to focus on her studies and personal growth without the constant worry about her family’s finances. She has embraced numerous opportunities at Ridley, participating in sports like softball, basketball and ultimate frisbee. Nantume also took on leadership roles, serving in Ridley’s Cadet Corps and developed a workshop for the THRIVE Student Leadership Conference.
The financial support has changed her life — she is embracing the experiences that Ridley has to offer that shape her not only as a student but as an individual and a leader.

Thanks to the support of Ian Wood ’53, one Ridley student is selected each year as the recipient of a scholarship that enables them to study a foreign language. Alex Bergshoeff ’26 and Gioia BonifacioProietto ’25 are the two most recent recipients. In summer 2025, Alex was able to travel to Spain to immerse himself in the language, while Gioia went to Japan in 2024, thanks to this scholarship and Ian’s generous support.
While many Ridleians generously contribute to the priorities outlined in the Ridleian Fund, we recognize that some members of our community have passions that extend beyond these areas of greatest need. When these interests align with Ridley’s strategic vision, we are committed to working closely with donors to connect their aspirations with meaningful opportunities at the School.
Every year, we see incredible support for programmes like athletics, arts, cadets and other initiatives that fall outside the annual fund priorities we promote. These contributions make a significant impact, enriching the Ridley experience and ensuring that all areas of our School continue to thrive.
Through the support of our donors, the cadet uniforms from the 1960s were replaced, breathing new life into the cadet programme — a timehonoured Ridley tradition.
With the support of a $2,000 business grant, made possible by a donor, Coen Ferraro ’27 launched Blitz Custom Apparel, a small business specializing in personalized merchandise such as mugs, glasses and t-shirts. The grant enabled Coen to purchase essential equipment, supplies and digital tools to bring his vision to life.
Since its inception, Blitz Custom Apparel has served over 25 customers across the province and generated $3,400 in sales. Coen has developed a sustainable business model and continues to expand his offerings while building valuable partnerships with local organizations.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to run and grow my own business at such a young age, and I’m excited to see how Blitz Custom Apparel can keep expanding in the future,” Coen shared.
Thanks to a generous donation, we have introduced a traditional medicine wheel garden to campus. The garden is a meaningful space open to the entire community, reflecting Indigenous teachings and fostering respect for the natural world.
Thanks to the generosity of a Ridley College alumni family,, a new sensory garden has been added to the Lower School Courtyard — an inspiring space designed to engage all five senses and foster mindfulness, curiosity and calm.
This project reflects Ridley’s commitment to holistic education and wellbeing, and was made possible by donors who believe in supporting every aspect of a student’s development.

Philanthropic support has played a transformative role in the growth and success of Ridley College’s athletics programmes.
Over the past several years, generous contributions from alumni, parents and friends of the School have enabled significant investments in facilities, equipment and student opportunities. Since the completion of The Campaign for Ridley and the construction of the Evans Athletic Centre in 2024, our students have had access to world-class facilities. In 2025, continued donor support has allowed Ridley to upgrade equipment, provide scholarships and expand our programming. These investments have strengthened Ridley’s reputation as a leader in independent school athletics, fostering not only excellence in sport but also the values of leadership, teamwork and perseverance that define the Ridley experience.

“The new spaces break new ground for the next generation to build on the legacy of Ridley Rowing: fueling the passion, cultivating a team spirit and empowering them to achieve their full potential as a team. It’s through unity and shared dedication that they’ll become trailblazers and create something extraordinary.”

New for 2024 was the first GOLD Challenge, an alumni fundraising participation challenge. The House with the highest participation rate won the coveted GOLD Cup! Gifts could be directed to any area at Ridley, from scholarships and bursaries to sports and the arts. A donation to any area of Ridley counted. The challenge ran for the month of October.
The second annual GOLD Party was a summer bash that brought alumni from 2014–2024 back to campus to reconnect with Ridley and each other. We awarded the very first GOLD Cup to our inaugural GOLD Challenge winners, Gooderham East House.

Ridley College has a long history of dedicated members from across our community — alumni, parents, grandparents, staff, faculty and more — stepping forward to create an enduring legacy by leaving a planned gift to benefit future generations of proud Ridleians.
The Order of 1889 serves to recognize those who have made the meaningful decision to include Ridley College as a beneficiary in their estate plans. These champions embody the ideal of our motto Terar Dum Prosim. They are celebrated for their commitment to ensuring that future Ridley students have every opportunity to flourish.
Thank you to the members of The Order of 1889 for your continued support of our mission and vision and to those new members who included Ridley in their long-term estate planning this year — we are so grateful for you!
ONE FROM DARCY MCKEOUGH ’51 AND ONE FROM AN ANONYMOUS DONOR.
Including Ridley in your will is a generous and thoughtful way to build a heartfelt legacy that will benefit generations of students. You can choose to leave Ridley a specific sum of money or a percentage of your estate.
A gift of life insurance is an inexpensive way to create a powerful legacy at Ridley. When you donate a new or existing life insurance policy, you turn small monthly or annual premiums into a significant gift. Your gift has no effect on your estate’s assets and you will receive a charitable tax receipt that can be used either in your lifetime or for your estate.

“We want other families to experience the same joy and opportunity Ridley has given ours,”
- JODIE CAMPBELL ’95

Jodie (Rivers) ’95 and Jamie Campbell are among the newest members of the Order of 1889, inspired by their family’s deep connection to Ridley. Jodie’s journey began in Grade 10 after her cousin and friends from her hometown of Sarnia, Ont., introduced her to the School. Jamie, from nearby Arkona, hadn’t heard of Ridley until he met Jodie — but it quickly became part of their family story.
Their daughter Madison ’17 attended Ridley for Grades 11 and 12, and their son Tanner ’27 is now in Grade 11. The couple returned to campus in fall 2025 to celebrate Jodie’s 30-year reunion and reflect on cherished memories — including the “Ridley Rocket,” a bus that once brought students home to southwestern Ontario.
Jodie hopes to see the Ridley Rocket filled once again, and both she and Jamie are proud Ridley parents who actively support school events and traditions.
“I never imagined my own children would attend Ridley,” Jodie says. “We feel honoured to be part of this community.”
Inspired by the Legacy Gala and Ridley’s state-of-the-art facilities, the Campbells chose to leave a planned gift. “We want other families to experience the same joy and opportunity Ridley has given ours,” they say. Their gift to Ridley bursaries aims to help future students thrive and carry the tradition forward.

“The Canadian Foundation extends our appreciation for the unwavering support of our donors. As of June 30th, 2025, the Foundation’s value stands at $40,895,522, empowering the Foundation to make a meaningful and ongoing impact on the school and its students. Your generosity is a catalyst for vital initiatives, including the financial assistance programme, prize funds, maintenance funds and other special endowed funds. The Foundation Board remains steadfast in its commitment to stewarding your investment with care and vision and ensuring it delivers the maximum possible benefit to Ridley and its students. Thank you for your continued trust and dedicated support.”
