IMPACT REPORT

FROM THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Dear Ridley Family,

Greetings from the Board, as we mark another year of historic health and successes for the School. As we drew near to June 30th, 2024, we were within inches of completing the construction of the new heartbeat of campus: the now open, world-class, reborn Iggulden Building, as well as the Evans Athletic Centre. The transformation of Iggy into a true student centre and the additions to the fieldhouse complex enhance the lives and wellbeing of Ridley

students and employees. As I’ve reflected with the Board, it is rewarding when it comes out even better than it was on paper! The engagement of the Ridley community — and unprecedented philanthropic successes powered by so many stakeholders — brought about these triumphs.

This is the new Impact Report — replacing our former Annual Report, and it’s my privilege to bring you a snapshot of Ridley’s leadership role in education, as you will also see clearly in the following

pages. Our Impact Report is an opportunity to reflect on the year that has unfolded and share the impact of all of our stakeholders’ enormous support. Once again, this year, we celebrate our living story and I congratulate our community on another year well done.

The theme for this school year was indeed “Engage,” which was inspired by the fuel that drives our school — the engagement in all respects by all of you — our many and diverse stakeholders.

In September 2023, the year started with welcoming another record number of students to campus — 797 in total, representing 59 countries, affirming the value proposition of a Ridley education as it is perceived in Canada, and globally.

The Board’s mandate continues with much variety, we are proud to have overseen many new achievements for Ridley, grappled with challenges and ready for future opportunities. This is my

final moment as Chair, to draft this annual message, and I want to both thank you as a community for your support of me during my term and thank you for your support of your School. I enthusiastically look forward to what is next to come as Chair Suzanne Court ’86 begins her Board leadership, given my confidence in her, and I know she will have your support in equal measure as she works with our outstanding leadership under Ed Kidd. The Board remains proud of Ridley’s management and the

privilege to help guide the school. You all can take pride in Ridley’s culture of engagement, service and belonging.

RIDLEY COLLEGE FAMILY GUILD

A YEAR IN SERVICE: RCFG ANNUAL SUMMARY

The 2023/24 year was a continued celebration of service and community for the Ridley College Family Guild (RCFG), following its 100th anniversary. Our team focused on deepening connections within the Ridley community, supporting students, faculty, and families, while embodying the school motto Terar dum Prosim (“May I be consumed in service.”)

We celebrated Ridley students’ service efforts, including projects like the Step Center, Shoebox Project and Ridley Women in Leadership, through regular Guild meetings. We continued traditions like the Thanksgiving food drive, Christmas decorating and Exam Proctoring, while also hosting fun events like the second annual Family Skate and Halloween Trick or Treat Night. These activities not only supported the community but fostered a strong sense of connection among Guild members.

Building friendships remained a key focus, with events like the Creekside social, Bowling night and faculty appreciation days offering opportunities for parents, past parents, and alumni to meet and bond. Our fundraising efforts surpassed expectations, with events such as Designer Purse Bingo, Trivia Night and TigerFest raising over $50,000, while our Recycled Uniform Program brought in more than $11,000.

The second annual Anita Robertson Award recognized Margy Massis for her exceptional volunteerism and leadership since 2012. Her dedication to the Guild and its events has been invaluable.

It has been a privilege to serve as RCFG President, and as I transition to Past President, I look forward to continuing to honor the Guild’s legacy of service. I am deeply grateful for the support and friendships within the Ridley community, and for the opportunity to contribute to such a remarkable institution.

“May I Be Consumed In Service” is more than just a motto at Ridley; it’s a way of life. Our students, from our youngest Ridleians in JK to our graduating students in Grade 12, are given many opportunities to contribute to the lives of others and serve the community through volunteering and action. Every grade level and House of Ridley is attached to a local charity, that we support through volunteerism and fundraising activities during the school year. Saturday programming includes weekly service opportunities on and off campus, and global service trips allow students to support meaningful causes around the world. This year, students continued their support of The Jacaranda School in Malawi, the Doppenbergs in Guatemala (DIG) as well as our first service trip to Thailand.

“Motionball has provided me with such a rewarding experience, allowing me to be a part of helping to create positive impact on other people by giving athletes joy and confidence. This opportunity has motivated me to be more empathetic by supporting inclusion and celebrating wide ranges of abilities and has inspired me to be a purpose driven leader.”

LEADERSHIP AND YOUNG ALUMNI GIVING

YOUNG ALUMNI FACE-OFF

This year, our young alumni from the classes of 2013 to 2022, participated in a new giving challenge. The goal of our Young Alumni Face-Off was to generate participation and engagement among our graduates of the last decade in giving back and starting their philanthropic relationship with Ridley. This initiative was a foundational step in building a culture of philanthropy amongst young alumni.

Young alumni were faced with different incentives to give, including a very generous alumni match, an additional match from the Headmaster, and the bonus of free Homecoming tickets for the winning class in the challenge.

Overall, the Face-Off brought awareness to philanthropy at the school among young alumni and secured 23 young donors who otherwise would not have made a gift to the school.

HIGHLIGHTS:

52% OF PARTICIPANTS MADE THEIR FIRST DONATION TO RIDLEY IN THE CHALLENGE

43% OF PARTICIPANTS MADE THEIR SECOND-EVER GIFT TO THE SCHOOL IN THE CHALLENGE (after their GRADitude Fund donation as students)

CLASS OF 2022

THE YOUNGEST CLASS IN THE CHALLENGE TOOK HOME THE WIN. THE CLASS OF 2021 WAS A CLOSE SECOND.

“After graduating in 1982, a new Ridley tradition emerged, an annual phone call from the leaders of my class. Those calls were an opportunity to send a donation to Ridley, but more importantly they were an opportunity to grow friendships that I value more today than the day I graduated.

Times have changed, and though the graduates of today may prove to be even more talented than those that preceded them, it is evident that graduates of the 20th century remain more engaged when it comes to giving. Therefore, I am happy to help instigate some competition between those younger Ridleians through the Young Alumni Challenge initiative. I want to encourage 21st century Ridleians to grow their connection to each other and an annual contribution to Ridley is an easy measure of those connections.”

This year, we worked to foster Ridley’s connection to the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD).

Ridley successfully hosted the inaugural GOLD party, welcoming over 150 young alumni back to campus. This event was a wonderful opportunity for our young alumni to re-engage with Ridley and their friends.

To strengthen philanthropic connections with the GOLD alumni, we introduced the Young Alumni Face-Off Challenge. Classes competed against each other to see who could achieve the highest donor participation in giving back to the school. This friendly competition highlighted the dedication of our young alumni in supporting Ridley and being part of our school’s long tradition of giving.

“Young alumni giving is important because it fosters the habit of philanthropy right after graduation, laying the foundation for lifelong engagement with Ridley. By establishing this tradition early, we strengthen the Ridley community and inspire alumni across generations to contribute. Even small donations from young alumni send a powerful message of support, demonstrating our commitment to the school’s future. I give because it keeps me connected to Ridley, even when I’m not physically there. It’s my way of showing gratitude for the incredible education and opportunities I received — an experience that continues to shape my life today.”

- ANGELA FINN ‘22

ORDER OF 1889

A LEGACY TO BE PROUD OF

Ridley College has a long history of dedicated members from across our community — alumni, parents, grandparents, staff and faculty, and more — stepping forward to create an enduring legacy by leaving a planned gift to benefit future generations of proud Ridleians.

The Order of 1889 serves to recognize those who have made the meaningful decision to include Ridley College as a beneficiary in their estate plans. These champions embody the ideal of our motto Terar Dum Prosim. They are celebrated for their commitment to ensuring that future Ridley students have every opportunity to flourish.

Thank you to the members of The Order of 1889 for your continued support of our mission and vision and to those new members who included Ridley in their long-term estate planning this year — we are so grateful for you!

“Ridley will always be in my heart. I am grateful for my years as a student, my time working in the Development Office and being an OR. To say that the relationships and experiences I had during both of my tenures at Ridley had a tremendous impact on my life would be a dramatic understatement to say the least. In combination with supporting the Annual Fund and the various capital campaigns, becoming a member of the Order of 1889 by providing a donation in my estate plan is a way that I knew I could continue to support the school I care so much about — even when I am gone. It is a simple and straightforward process, but one that will leave a lasting legacy in my family’s name for Ridley’s future.”

- BRYAN ROSE ’96

“Ridley College gave so much to me during my five years as a student. The teachers, coaches, students and staff all played a significant role in my personal development and made me the person I am today. It gives me a lot of satisfaction knowing that my Planned Giving will give future students the same opportunities that Ridley gave me.”
