PATHWAY TO Postsecondary Sport

At Ridley, our high-performance athletics programmes are designed to develop the whole student-athlete. We combine elite athletic training with a rigorous academic foundation and ensure our student-athletes have the resources, support and exposure necessary to pursue their educational and athletic aspirations.

Student-athletes benefit from:

• World-class training facilities, in-house physiotherapy, athletic therapy and strength coaching to support training and development

• Professional coaching staff with national and international experience

• Comprehensive academic support, including tutoring and student success plans through our Learning Centres

• Counselling support for individual needs to support students’ mental health

• Top-level competition in both league play and tournaments

• Nutritious meals and snacks to ensure athletes are fueled for performance

At Ridley, we don’t just prepare students for the next game — we prepare them for life.

We have graduated several provincial, national and international champions, as well as hundreds of postsecondary careers in the NCAA, USports and Tier II programs.

To meet the diverse needs of studentathletes, our Guidance department created a unique position of Postsecondary Athletic Counsellor who is focused on:

• Educating athletes and families on the NCAA/U Sports eligibility process.

• Providing 1-on-1 support to athletes of all grades during the eligibility process, including school research and document submissions.

• Acting as the primary liaison between postsecondary institutions and Ridley for student eligibility.

PREP HOCKEY

Overview

TRAINING SCHEDULE

• On-ice practice 4 to 6 times each week

• Team workouts with a certified strength and conditioning coach

• Weekly yoga session with a strength coach or yoga instructor

• Tutorial sessions with teachers

• Individual tutors available

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

• Power skating sessions

• On-ice skills sessions

• Team and individual video analysis

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

• Strength and conditioning with a certified strength coach

• Yoga sessions

• Nutrition advice with on-campus nutritionist

PREP BOYS HOCKEY

LEAGUES & TOURNAMENTS

• Approximately 60 games each season from September to March

• Participate in CPSHA, TNPHL and MPHL leagues

• NEPSAC Associate School

• Participation in three to four showcases/ tournaments

• Partner in the GOJHL

PREP GIRLS HOCKEY

LEAGUES & TOURNAMENTS

• Season runs from September to April with approximately 70 games

• OWHA Elite U22 League

• Participation in four showcases, including the top showcases in North America: Stoney Creek Showcase, USA Canada Cup Series (Detroit/ Kitchener)

PREP BASKETBALL Development Programme

The Basketball Development Programme (BDP) aims to foster growth and development for select Grade 9, 10 and 11 students, serving as a pipeline to nurture athletes for our Prep team. The top players in our programme, who are promoted from the BDP or recruited, make up Ridley’s Prep basketball team.

The BDP model for athletic development consists of the following:

COMPETITIVE DEVELOPMENT

• Daily, calculated repetitions of competing to your best ability within our framework of fundamentals that are transferrable to every basketball team.

• Teammate development is achieved through repeated, monitored competitive practice games, with daily emphasis on how players’ actions impact their teammates and the game’s outcome.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

• Multiple skill sessions per week outside of practice.

• Gym availability before school for individual practice.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

• Strength and conditioning with a certified strength coach.

• Nutrition advice with an on-campus nutritionist.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

• Daily practices 5-6 times per week.

• 2-3 individual training sessions per week.

• 2-3 structured strength and conditioning sessions per week.

Scouting reports (Prep only)

Our U16 and First teams compete in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA), various tournaments and appropriate circuits.

FIGURE SKATING Overview

This new programme offers competitive skaters at the Juvenile, Pre-Novice and Novice levels a unique opportunity to train at a highperformance level, 20–25 hours/week, while receiving a world-class education. Aligned with Skate Canada’s Podium Pathway, Ridley’s programme features integrated academics and training, elite coaching, personalized development plans, and Skate Canada/Skate Ontario events and performance opportunities.

COMPREHENSIVE WEEKLY TRAINING

• On-ice: jumps, spins, skating skills, edgework and turns.

• Off-ice: dance, yoga, pilates, fitness (strength training) and off-ice jump development.

• Coaching is delivered through both group sessions and private lessons to optimize efficiency and personalized learning.

ELITE COACHING FACULTY

Coaching faculty will be announced in fall 2025 and will include a Head Coach and a rotation of internationally recognized high-performance coaches and mentors.

PERFORMANCE AND COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITIES

Participation in Skate Canada/Skate Ontario competitions, performance simulations and exhibitions.

SKATE ONTARIO CERTIFIED CLUB AND SKATING SCHOOL

Meets the highest national standards for coaching, development and athlete safety.

INDIVIDUAL GOAL SETTING AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS

Skaters collaborate with coaches to establish personal goals and training plans. Regular monitoring and feedback ensure consistent progress aligned with each athlete’s objectives.

TEAM TRAINING ENVIRONMENT

Emphasis on camaraderie and teamwork in a sport traditionally focused on individual performance.

ON-SITE ATHLETIC THERAPY

Access specialized care for injury prevention, recovery and peak performance.

INTEGRATED TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Balanced schedule combining rigorous academics with intensive onice and off-ice training.

PREP ROWING

Overview

As one of Canada's most successful secondary school rowing programmes, Ridley Rowing offers an environment that empowers athletes to rise to the best version of themselves in a values-driven programme that inspires growth through challenging competitive opportunities.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS

• Seasonal Training: Fall and Spring on-water seasons with opportunities to compete in 3 to 4 regattas per season.

• Winter Preparation: Comprehensive dryland season with opportunities to participate in 2 regattas.

• Intensive Training Schedule: 6 scheduled training sessions per week.

• Strength and Conditioning: 2 to 3 dedicated strength training sessions per week and one yoga session.

• Expert Coaching: Experienced coaching staff committed to athlete development.
