We had a family member come to me to tell me that they have a camera set up in their loved one’s apartment. This particular resident has been struggling with a very quick dementia decline. She has moments where she is lucid but a lot of days she looks scared and confused. The family looked on the camera and saw Mary and the resident dancing in the apartment together. This brought tears to the family’s eyes as they haven’t seen their loved one be their “old self” in quite a while.

Our Resident Council at Carteret Landing would like to recognize Emily Ward for our Spotlight on Success. Emily joined our housekeeping team in February of this year. During this time, she has had rave reviews from the residents both for her caring personality and the quality of the work she does. During our recent Every Effort Guarantee meeting, Emily shared that on one of the days where she was running behind schedule, one of the residents seemed like they just needed someone to listen to them. Emily took the time listen to the resident, sharing that it made both the resident’s day as well as her own. This is just one example of the care and compassion Emily has for our residents. Emily has been a great addition to our team and we are proud to have her representing Carteret Landing as our Spotlight on Success.

meaningful MOMENTS
Arbor Landing at Hampstead was honored to celebrate the 74th anniversary of two of our residents, Thelma and Dick Dickerson! Their anniversary was May 30th and we celebrated together with cake, sparkling cider, looking through photographs and talking about all their memories together!
Dick says they just stay happy and love each other eveyday and that is how they have been together so long!

meaningful MOMENTS
Earlier this month, on May 8th, Gordon Thornton, a memory care resident at Arbor Landing at Ocean Isle, experienced his “Meaningful Moment.” Twelve of us went for a wonderful pontoon boat ride on the intra-coastal waterway between North Myrtle Beach, SC and Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Gordon’s friends on the boat were seven fellow Horizons residents, Gordon’s wife, Karolyn, two social directors, and our executive chef, who captained our adventure.
Karolyn helped us decide that a boat ride would make Gordon very happy, and it did! Gordon and Karolyn met while they were in college, because of boating. Karolyn wanted to water ski, and her roommate knew Gordon, and knew he had a boat. The roommate arranged for Gordon to take Karolyn water skiing, and the rest is history! They have been married over 60 years, and boating has always been a big part of their lives.
