A.J. ALEXY

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 4/21/98 | HEIGHT: 6’4” | WEIGHT: 200 HOMETOWN: HONEY BROOK, PA A major piece in the 2017 trade that sent Yu Darvish to the Dodgers in 2017, Alexy is coming off an injury-plagued 2019 campaign. The righty was an Organizational All-Star in 2018 with Hickory, owning a 3.58 ERA, before making just five starts two years ago. He enters 2021 as the No. 23 prospect in the system by MLB.com.

GRANT ANDERSON

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 6/21/97 | HEIGHT: 6’0” | WEIGHT: 180 HOMETOWN: PORT ARTHUR, TX A former 21st-round selection by the Mariners in 2018, Anderson was traded to the Rangers in 2019 for pitcher Connor Sadzeck. In 2019 with Low-A Hickory, Anderson made 37 appearances, going 7-4 with a 3.22 ERA. Before turning professional, Anderson worked out of the bullpen at McNeese State, going 8-0 with a 2.30 ERA in 2017.

DIOSBEL ARIAS

POSITION: INFIELDER | DOB: 7/2/96 | HEIGHT: 6’0” | WEIGHT: 210 HOMETOWN: HAVANA, CUBA Arias joined the Rangers organization from Cuba and he has been a mark of consistency ever since. With Short-Season Low-A Spokane in 2018, Arias hit .366/.451/.491 with three home runs and 44 RBIs en route to winning the Northwest League batting title and being named a Postseason All-Star. He followed that up in 2019 by being named a Mid-Season All-Star with the Down East Wood Ducks in the Carolina League, batting .270/.346/.361.

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 6/3/93 | HEIGHT: 6’7” | WEIGHT: 240 HOMETOWN: LUBBOCK, TX Lubbock native Blake Bass is in the midst of his second season with the Riders, having served as one of the go-to relievers in a talented bullpen. The righty was an eigth-round pick in 2015 out of Angelo State University. He began his collegiate career as a first baseman for Texas Tech.

POSITION: INFIELDER | DOB: 4/7/97 | HEIGHT: 5’11” | WEIGHT: 175 HOMETOWN: MISSOURI CITY, TX Biggers, who skipped High-A to start 2021 with the RoughRiders, hit .282/.369/.353 with Hickory in 2019. An eighth-round selection of the Rangers in 2018, Biggers spent two seasons at the University of Arkansas, helping the Razorbacks reach the College World Series Finals in 2018. In 2017, he was a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, given to the country’s best shortstop.

NOAH BREMER

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 5/13/96 | HEIGHT: 6’5” | WEIGHT: 206 HOMETOWN: BERKELEY, CA A University of Washington product, Bremer dominated in his 14 starts in 2019, going 3-0 with a 2.97 ERA for the High-A Down East Wood Ducks. The righty has a career 3.44 ERA in the minors. At UW, Bremer was named the All-Pac-12 team three times, going 16-11 with a 2.88 ERA over 47 games, 40 being starts.

HEVER BUENO

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 11/23/94 | HEIGHT: 6’2” | WEIGHT: 210 HOMETOWN: MESA, AZ An Arizona State product, the hard-thrower has been a reliever since the 2019 season with Low-A Hickory, where he went 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA. With the Sun Devils, Bueno made just 35 appearances because of injuries, including “Tommy John” surgery in 2016. Before going under the knife, he was the Friday night starter for Arizona State, but just made two starts before sustaining the UCL injury.

HANS CROUSE

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 9/15/98 | HEIGHT: 6’5” | WEIGHT: 210 HOMETOWN: DANA POINT, CA A former second-round pick of the Rangers in 2017, Crouse was the consensus top-pitching prospect in the Rangers system in 2019. After going 6-1 with a 4.41 ERA with Hickory that season, he is still considered a top-10 Rangers prospect.

The Dana Hills, Calif. native is known for stopping and starting during his windup to throw off hitters’ timing.

RONNY HENRIQUEZ

POSITION: OUTFIELDER | DOB: 7/20/00 | HEIGHT: 5’10” | WEIGHT: 160 HOMETOWN: BONAO, D.R. A veteran of the minors, Henriquez spent eight seasons with the Royals organization, including making the Texas League Mid-Season All-Star Team in 2018 as a member of the Northwest Arkansas. After signing a MiLB Free Agent deal over the offseason, he started 2021 in Triple-A Round Rock.

SAM HUFF

POSITION: INFIELDER | DOB: 1/14/98 | HEIGHT: 6’5” | WEIGHT: 240 HOMETOWN: PHOENIX, AZ Huff was picked by the Rangers in the seventh round of the 2016 draft after leading Arizona prep hitters with 14 homers his senior season at Arcadia High School. The six-foot, five-inch catcher burst onto the scene as a top-5 prospect in the Rangers system in 2019 when he blasted 28 home runs between Low-A Hickory and High-A Down East. In 2020, he debuted with the Rangers on September 11th, becoming the youngest catcher since Jarrod Saltalamacchia in 2007 (22 years old) to make his debut. He is the No. 2 prospect in the Rangers system entering 2021.

JOSH JUNG

POSITION: INFIELDER | DOB: 2/12/98 | HEIGHT: 6’2” | WEIGHT: 214 HOMETOWN: SAN ANTONIO, TX The No. 1 prospect in the Rangers system per MLB.com and the No. 50 player in all of Minor League Baseball, Jung (pronounced “Young”) was selected with the eighthoverall pick by the Rangers in 2019. The former standout at Texas Tech went to two College World Series with the Red Raiders while hitting .348 with 33 home runs and 181 RBIs over his 191 games. His junior season, he split the Big-12 Player of the Year award with Riders infielder Davis Wendzel (Baylor).

JAKE LATZ

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 4/8/96 | HEIGHT: 6’3” | WEIGHT: 200 HOMETOWN: LEMONT, IL Latz had just about the best possible start to the 2019 season before an elbow sprain ended his season prematurely. The lefty went 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in two starts with the Crawdads and then started 5-1 over 11 starts with a 1.76 ERA in Down East before the injury derailed his campaign on June 23rd.

J.P. MARTINEZ

POSITION: OUTFIELDER | DOB: 3/21/96 | HEIGHT: 5’9” | WEIGHT: 180 HOMETOWN: BARACOA, CUBA One of the top talents in the 2018 international sphere, Martinez has been playing professional-level baseball since he was 16 in Cuba. A blend of speed and power, Martinez hit 15 home runs and stole 28 bases in 2019 between Down East and Hickory.

SAL MENDEZ

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 2/25/95 | HEIGHT: 6’4” | WEIGHT: 185 HOMETOWN: WEEHAWKEN, NJ A 40th-rounder out of Weehawken High School in New Jersey, Mendez put together back-to-back strong seasons, owning a 2.85 ERA in 2018 and 2.37 ERA in 2019. While mostly out of the bullpen, Mendez filled in as a starter as well, making 24 starts out of 58 total games in the two years.

MELVIN NOVOA

POSITION: CATCHER | DOB: 6/17/96 | HEIGHT: 5’11” | WEIGHT: 215 HOMETOWN: NANDAIME, NICARAGUA Novoa spent both 2018 and 2019 see-sawing between Low-A Hickory and High-A Down East and had offensive success with the Crawdads in 2019. That season, he set career highs in home runs (12) and RBIs (53) while pegging 34.5 percent of base runners from behind the plate. The catcher is trying to become just the 16th player from Nicaragua to make The Show.

FERNERY OZUNA

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 11/9/95 | HEIGHT: 5’9” | WEIGHT: 190 HOMETOWN: NIGUA, DR One of the more interesting stories on the 2021 Riders, Ozuna was originally signed as an infielder by the Diamondbacks in 2012 and was released in 2018. Two months later, the Rangers picked him up and tried to move him to the mound, after just throwing 12 innings, he had to have “Tommy John” surgery and has returned with a triple-digits fastball.

COLE RAGANS

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 12/12/97 | HEIGHT: 6’4” | WEIGHT: 205 HOMETOWN: CRAWFORDVILLE, FL A former first-round selection in 2016, Ragans was he a top-10 high school arm in the nation before he went 30th overall to Texas. The southpaw impressed in Short Season Low-A Spokane in 2017, being named the best prospect in the Northwest League by Baseball America before injuries derailed his next two seasons. After undergoing two ‘Tommy John’ surgeries, he missed the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons. He started 2021 in High-A Hickory before playing the 2021 All-Star Futures Game and debuting in Double-A Frisco the same week.

YERRY RODRIGUEZ

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 10/15/97 | HEIGHT: 6’2” | WEIGHT: 210 HOMETOWN: SANTIAGO, DR The No. 19 prospect in the system by MLB.com, Rodriguez was older than most international prospects when he was signed at 18 years old, but has flashed a fastball in the upper-90s and a deadly slider. In 2019, he dominated in his 13 starts, going 7-3 with a 2.08 ERA while striking out 85 in 73.2 IP.

NICK SNYDER

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 10/10/95 | HEIGHT: 6’4” | WEIGHT: 190 HOMETOWN: PALM CITY, FL A former strong-armed shortstop at a Indian River State College, Snyder was drafted in the 19th round of the 2017 draft by the Rangers and immediately transitioned to the mound. With Low-A Hickory in 2019, he ranked second on the team with 33 games and six saves. In 2020, he underwent “Tommy John” surgery and saw his first action in 2021 with High-A Hickory.

JOSH STOWERS

POSITION: OUTFIELDER | DOB: 2/25/97 | HEIGHT: 6’0” | WEIGHT: 200 HOMETOWN: CHICAGO, IL Acquired in April of 2021 from the New York Yankees in exchange for Rougned Odor, Stowers figures to be a big factor in the RoughRiders outfield in 2021. The former Louisville Cardinal was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 2018 draft’s second round, but was shipped to New York for infielder Shed Long a year later.

Stowers was a Third-Team All-American in 2018 at Louisville after hitting .336 with nine home runs, 60 RBIs and 36 steals.

ANDERSON TEJEDA

POSITION: INFIELDER | DOB: 10/10/95 | HEIGHT: 6’0” | WEIGHT: 200 HOMETOWN: BANI, D.R. The No. 10 prospect in the Rangers system by MLB.com started the season with the Rangers before heading to Triple-A and now finds himself with RoughRiders.

Tejeda made his MLB debut in 2020, becoming the first Rangers player since 1986 (infielder Pete Incaviglia) to make his debut without playing above the High-A level.

Tejeda converted to switch hitting in 2019 after only hitting from the left side prior.

TYLER THOMAS

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 12/22/95 | HEIGHT: 6’0” | WEIGHT: 175 HOMETOWN: SAN DIEGO, CA After beginning 2021 in High-A Hickory, Thomas joined the RoughRiders bullpen in May. Originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the seventh round of the 2017 draft, the lefty was traded to Texas for pitcher Jesse Chavez. Before being drafted, Thomas was a 1st-Team All-Mountain West selection at Fresno State both his sophomore and junior seasons.

BUBBA THOMPSON

POSITION: OUTFIELDER | DOB: 6/9/98 | HEIGHT: 6’2” | WEIGHT: 200 HOMETOWN: JACKSONVILLE, FL A first-round pick of the Rangers in 2017, Thompson is known for his incredible speed and athleticism. Thompson has swiped 44 bases over 141 games since the start of 2018. The outfielder was committed to the University of Alabama for baseball before he signed with the Rangers.

COLE UVILA

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 1/30/94 | HEIGHT: 6’4” | WEIGHT: 210 HOMETOWN: QUINCY, WA Originally a shortstop in college, Uvila picked up pitching on a whim and started to dominate. Eventually picked in the 40th round of the 2018 draft (15th-to-last-pick in the whole draft), Uvila has transformed into one of the more underrated pitchers in the Rangers system. In his first full season, he went 7-3 with a 2.23 ERA over 38 appearances with the 2019 Down East Wood Ducks. In 2021, he is a late-game reliever and closer.

STEPHEN VILLINES

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 7/15/95 | HEIGHT: 6’2” | WEIGHT: 180 HOMETOWN: LAKE FOREST, CA A former New York Met’s farmhand, Villines came to the RoughRiders in a trade for Ariel Jurado in 2020. In the New York system, Villines owned ERAs near or under 3.00 every season (2017, 1.65; 2018, 3.11; 2019, 2.66). Villines was drafted out of the University of Kansas in the 10th round of the 2017 draft.

STEELE WALKER

POSITION: OUTFIELDER | DOB: 7/30/96 | HEIGHT: 5’11” | WEIGHT: 210 HOMETOWN: PROSPER, TX The Prosper, Texas native grew up going to RoughRiders games. Acquired from the White Sox in 2019 in exchange for former Riders outfielder Nomar Mazara, Walker was a standout at Oklahoma, where he was teammates with current Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. At Prosper High School, Walker took home a state title on the diamond while winning Dallas Morning News Player of the Year honors.

MATT WHATLEY

POSITION: CATCHER | DOB: 1/7/96 | HEIGHT: 5’9” | WEIGHT: 200 HOMETOWN: CLAREMORE, OK Whatley is widely known as one of the best defensive catchers in the Rangers system and that culminated in the 2019 Texas Rangers Minor League Defender of the Year Award. The Oklahoma native excelled in college at Oral Roberts University as well, taking home the Johnny Bench Award in 2017 as the nation’s best catcher. Oral Roberts University also produced Rangers and former RoughRiders catcher Jose Trevino.

COLE WINN

POSITION: PITCHER | DOB: 11/25/99 | HEIGHT: 6’2” | WEIGHT: 200 HOMETOWN: LONGMONT, CO A native of Longmont, Colorado, Winn won the Colorado High School Gatorade Player of the Year award his junior season before his family moved to California for his senior year. At Orange Lutheran High in California, he was the California version of the same award before being selected 15th overall by the Rangers in 2018. Winn threw just 68.2 innings with Hickory in 2019 before making his Double-A debut in 2021.
