Auditions and Interviews

WELCOME TO THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES!

We are so glad that you are embarking on a path towards the arts at Rider University. Congratulations on all you have accomplished to get you here. Break a leg!

BEFORE YOUR AUDITION

» Complete your audition form through your Be A Bronc Applicant Dashboard checklist.

REGISTRATION: 9:30 a.m.

» Fine Arts Building Lobby

WELCOME & OVERVIEW: 10 a.m.

» Fine Arts Building, Yvonne Theater

» Admissions and faculty welcome

» Overview of school & programs; layout for the day

INDIVIDUAL AUDITIONS: 10:30 a.m.

» While waiting for your warm up/audition time, you will have the opportunity to speak with a current Rider student in a classroom within our Fine Arts building.

» Based on group numbers, you will be escorted to a warm up room and will have a minimum of 15 minutes to warm up before your audition.

» One by one you will be sent to an audition room for your individual audition. An accompanist will be provided for all voice auditions. Please remember to bring original copies of your sheet music.

» Following your individual audition, you will be sent to a classroom within the Fine Arts building to do aural memory exercises, commencing with simple intervals and progressing to short melodic phrases.

» Following your audition and aural skills, if you are not auditioning for Music Education, your audition day is complete unless you are staying to be considered for the Voice Competition.

INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEWS: MUSIC EDUCATION

» Following your aural skills exercises, you will be sent one by one into an interview room within the Fine Arts building for your individual interview with a faculty member.

» Open discussion about goals, interests, musical experience, etc.

» Get to know our faculty and ask questions about the program.

» Following your audition, aural skills, and interview your audition day is complete unless you are staying to be considered for the Voice Competition.

Have a break or want to explore?

» In between your audition and the Student Performance, feel free to partake in the following activities. Remember to be back in the Gill Chapel by 1:55 p.m.!

» Lunch on us in our Daly’s Dining Hall (please ask for meal vouchers at registration!)

» Take a campus tour leaving from the Cavalla Room n the Bart Luedeke Center at 11:30 a.m. or 1p.m.

» Check out the Rider Bookstore located in the Bart Luedeke Center

FINALISTS

ANNOUNCED AND FULL-TUITION VOICE COMPETITION: 2 p.m.

» Gill Chapel Sanctuary

» Auditionees studying Voice as their primary instrument are eligible to be considered for the Full-Tuition Voice Scholarship Competition taking place at the end of the audition day.

» The finalists competing will be chosen by the faculty and announced to all in attendance at 2 p.m. If you wish to participate, please come to the Gill Chapel Sanctuary by 2 p.m. to find out if you are selected as a finalist.

» If chosen, you will be asked to sing one of your already-prepared audition pieces again in front of all faculty, auditionees, and their families. There will be an accompanist present for you.

» The recipient of the scholarship will be notified via email 1–2 weeks following the competition day.

» An Evening of Readings and Carols
