DEEP-DEEP DAY

“When I look back on my entire season there are always a few days and a few moments that stand out. One of those days that was a highlight for me was early season and our first truly deep deep west coast day.”

I was riding with my good buddy and this season he didn’t have a Turbo. I was riding last years sled but equipped with a turbo kit that was running strong. The zone we chose that day required a serious stretch of steep tree trail breaking. As we got to the start of the tree section the other guys shot ahead full pin into the deep and steep! As I ripped after them I soon came across them and found them all stuck as it truly was a crazy deep day! I gripped that turbo sled wide open on the finger throttle and chose a line right down the middle of my stuck friends.

I didn’t get stuck and that turbo just kept chewing all the way up until the trail break tree section and into the untouched alpine, right into what felt like freedom.

Looking back I am not sure which was louder the screaming turbo exhaust or me hooting and hollering right past my buddies. Those moments when you sled, your gear, the conditions, it all seems almost invisible and you just feel such freedom. I am sure my buddies don’t remember it so fondly but right in small epic moments like this are the best memories I have out there ridding. Of course a few minutes later the boys showed up and were up and over the hill in no time and then the rest of the day we just slayed pow all day until every drop of gas was gone and rode home with smiles plastered on our faces.

BLUE SKY AND FRESH SNOW

“The highlights for me riding in a given season are definitely those moments when you’re riding with your buddies, the energy is high, the adrenaline is high, and the attitudes are positive. When all your focusing on is enjoying riding and everything else just sort of fades away.”

It’s days like this, surrounded by your riding buddies that get me stoked to challenge myself on the tighter more technical lines. It challenges me to poke a little higher or jump a little further. Pushing myself, surrounded by my friends, getting to really focus on my riding and the conditions because my gear is performing, that is what truly fuels my passion. One of my favorite days last season had all those pieces, it was a crisp and cold morning and the valley clouds were low and the sunshine was just on the other side of the mountains. We headed up the trail head, barely being able to see 10 meters in front of us as we worked our way up the mountain.

Then all of a sudden we popped out of the clouds and it’s blue sky and fresh snow. It was one of those moments when you get truly stoked for the day ahead and feel so fortunate to experience the beauty of the mountains with your friends day after day. As simple as it sounds, being in the mountains and experiencing the unpredictable beauty just outside of the clouds, it humbles you, and makes you realize it’s not always about who can jump higher or flip bigger. At the end of the day it’s the places we can go and the great people we meet, all thanks to snowmobiling. As you can imagine, this day we ripped until the sun went down.
