RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 2 0 1 3 R E S O U R C E G U I D E TO E X P E RT S O N C A M P U S

DEAR FRIENDS OF RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE,

We are pleased to present you with the 2013 Rhode Island College Resource Guide to Experts on Campus. The college is eager to serve as a resource for leaders of our state. The faculty cited in this guide have volunteered, at my request, to serve as statewide experts based on their credentials, interests and backgrounds in various disciplines. Please feel welcome to contact them by phone or email. They may be available to serve as speakers, panelists or committee chairs and/or members. They most certainly would be able to answer a question. Please take a moment to browse through this publication. We welcome contact with members of the media, state or city government and business or industry. Rhode Island College is truly Rhode Island’s college, and we stand ready to serve you. Best wishes,

President Nancy Carriuolo

Institute for Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies Marie Fraley, Interim Director The Institute for Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies works with students and the wider Portuguese-speaking community to learn about the Portuguese language and culture and to apply speaking and writing skills to career goals, community service, academic endeavors, the arts and the promotion of the Portuguese culture. The institute also serves as a nucleus for historical, pedagogical, research and evaluative resources, and as a gathering place for cultural and academic events. (401) 456-8496; mfraley1@ ric.edu Outreach Programs Jenifer Giroux, Interim Associate Vice President for Professional Studies and Continuing Education The Outreach Programs work exclusively with individuals who are outside of the economic mainstream because of limited language capabilities and cultural differences. These programs provide English-language and vocational training, as well as job skills and job-placement services. All programs use state-of-the-art assistive technology in the classroom as well as workplace and worksite programs to enhance classroom learning. (401) 456-9762; jgiroux@ric.edu Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities Anthony Antosh, Director The Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities is one of 61 nationally designated University Centers of Excellence on Developmental Disabilities. Founded in 1993, the center promotes community membership of individuals with disabilities in school, work and society. The center implements this goal by providing training and technical assistance on issues and topics important to persons with disabilities, conducting research and disseminating information about current research and effective practices. Last year more than 18,000 persons with disabilities, family members and practitioners participated in Sherlock Center activities. (401) 456-8072; aantosh@ric.edu
